The Demon city project was coming up pretty well. Their leader, Falcon, was very involved in it because he was beginning to love the new development that would uplift his people. The city was being developed very far from all the werewolves’ packs and Falcon wanted that. He just wanted to focus on his people and no one else.
Hunter visited twice in the four months to overlook the process. Hunter was a clever businessman. The Demon city was being built over large reserves of platinum. And what would be the best way to protect those mines than to have demons live over it. Hunter had already made a pact with the humans to supply them with platinum and at the same time got them registered under his name. Since no humans wanted to go in there, the license to mine it came easily. In fact, the humans were too glad to give it to him.
Falcon was roped into it and he was given the contract to extract platinum. He had already created his company for extraction, got it registered and had hired several men for it.
Two months later the Demon city, named Cobalt Pack, was fully developed. The demon families had completely migrated there. Falcon had asked Hunter to build tall walls around the pack because he didn’t want his pack members to stray out and scare other people around. He made very strict laws for his people if they ventured out. Very tall castle-like walls with barbed wires were built all around it. While it looked like a deserted area from outside, inside, the place was so modern that it was only imagination come true.
Being a shrewd businessman, Hunter had taken the contract of maintaining both the packs, Crescent pack and Cobalt pack. Their maintenance brought in a lot of money home because the two packs had become self-sustainable in less than a year.
“I feel like I have swallowed a melon!” River cried when she looked down at her tummy. She was running in her final month of pregnancy. She was sitting in between Hunter’s l*egs.
They all had come out for a much-needed family time. Mia watched Elijah taking a swim in the pack’s pond as she rubbed her own tummy. “I understand the feeling, River,” she said lazily and picked up her favorite snack,
tomato-cucumber salad. How was it that being a Lycan she liked eating vegetables more than meat. Sometimes she shuddered at the thought that she had a goat in her tummy. She was three months behind River. River turned to her husband. “This is my last pregnancy. You hear me?”
Hunter snapped out his reverie. He was lying down and reading a business magazine but on the inside was a porn magazine. He snapped the magazine shut out of pure fear that River would find out about it and snatch it away. But what could he do? He was reading about a new position between a man and pregnant females. Only God knew how inventive he had become over these days. “Wh-what?”
She smacked his h*and. “This is my last pregnancy!”
“As you say it, love,” he replied with a huge grin. “I will do as you like.” Which was absolutely wrong. He was going to coax her into having more babies, but he won’t say that now. He had heard that women forget every pain associated with labor in a few years.
Mia rolled her eyes. As if her brother would stop. She had heard him so many times that he would have a lot of babies with his mate. She wasn’t sure about Elijah though. She knew that he would do whatever she wanted and she wanted to have more babies with him.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her and River doubled. “Aah!”
“River!” Hunter shot up. “What happened?”
Her face had a pinched expression. “I think my contractions have started.”
Hunter became pale as goosebumps lined his skin. “The pups. The pups! They are coming!”
Mia shouted for Elijah because her brother was so nervous that he lost his senses. He jumped out of the pond and rushed to them. Pointing at River, she said, “We need to take River to the hospital!”
Elijah glanced at Hunter. The big, broad shouldered, brawny Lycan Alpha of the pack, who was the most powerful of them, was so scared when it came to his babies. Elijah chuckled at his Alpha. He wasn’t going to be like this. Suddenly, River’s scream pierced the air and Elijah wasn’t so sure of himself.
Somewhere far from the picnic spot, someone was watching them with binoculars. His jaws clenched and his claws elongated. He wanted to rip her apart but now he had suddenly made another plan. He was going to make her pay for what she did to him a thousand times more.
River was admitted to the hospital soon. Hunter was so nervous that his mind was numb. It was Elijah and Mia who were running around for her. The doctors and the nurses were all standing around at all times. River’s contractions started coming in less than an hour interval. A doctor attended her along with two of the best nurses.
Hunter’s anxiety was all over the face. He was pale like a ghost. He would pace i*n and out of the room. While, all these months he was so proud that River would give birth to his babies, and that he would want more pups, but now he wasn’t so sure. All his resolve to impregnate her with more of his seeds vanished in thin air. Her contractions started to come in less than fifteen minutes. “Aaaaaah!” she shrieked in pain. Hunter rushed to her side, shot to pieces. She grabbed his wrist and when the next contraction came, Hunter winced. River gripped his wrist so t*ightly that he was sure it would break. Damn where did all this strength come from?
“I hate you!’’ she shouted at him. “I am- aaaaa – I am having this pain – aaaaa – because of you – aaaaaaa!”
“River. Baby…” he mumbled, short of crying.
Mia who was standing with Elijah went to her brother. “Brother, do you want me to be with her?’’ “No!” River snapped. “He made me pregnant! What makes you think – aaaaa- I will leave him! He will suffer as much- aaaa —”
Mia scratched her head and shrugged as if telling him that she tried. She walked back to Elijah, who was also looking like a ghost. It was as if he would faint in a few minutes. So Mia took him out of the room. “I can see the head forming,” said the doctor very calmly. “Keep pushing.”
“Pushing?” River yelled at him. “What do you think — aaaaaaa — I am doing?”
The doctor gave a nervous smile to his Luna and became quiet.
Her contractions were even fiercer now. It had been a few hours since her pain began and she was already fed up. Sweat lined up her skin. Her hair was stuck to her cheeks.
Hunter’s wolf was whimpering on the inside and chose to hide, scared as hell to come out and see his mate suffering. ‘I could use you at this time!’ Hunter chided him, but he didn’t even bother to answer.
“Baby,” he said to River when she shrieked in pain again. “It will be fine soon.”
She snapped her eyes to him. “Someone, throw him out please,” she screamed.
“The head has become bigger. Luna River, push!” the doctor ordered.
