With Hawk enveloped safely in his arms, Hunter went back to the Crescent pack. He remembered how he had returned back from Portland after he suspected the caller.
Hector had sent them all on a wild goose chase to Portland. Hunter was so nervous to find and get his son back that he had gone there without much thinking. They spent two days waiting for the kidnapper to call. Had Hunter not asked that trick question about calling his son a pup and not a baby, he would have never come to know that Hector had hired a human to call him and keep a watch on him. However, Hunter wanted to know why Hector wasn’t calling. Why did he employ the human and why was it that the human insisted that he call back on the landline?
Yet another mistake that Hector made was to call him on the cell phone. Hunter knew that Hector would be desperate by now, so he employed Asher to trace the location of his call. In the meanwhile, Hunter and his team returned to Crescent pack as soon as they could. This time they all ran through the forest and hills and mountains rather than waiting at the airports and wasting time. They followed the same route that the demons had followed while coming back. They ran straight for twelve hours without stopping even for having food in their beast form. When they reached home, Asher straight away went to the security team that was keeping a watch on Hunter’s cell phone while the rest of them took a bath and waited for Hector to call. Hunter’s heart squeezed when he saw River’s condition. She was non-responsive. Faria was taking good care of her. However, what he encountered over there was beyond his dreams. River’s nurse, Mink, was caught by Faria and one other warrior for trying to use balloons that consisted of liquid that turned into dense mist.
Hunter came there right on time and caught Mink red h*anded. She was trying to k*ill Faria but he overpowered her and crushed her knees under his boots, fracturing them. No, he turned those bones to such small particles that Mink would have h*ard time regenerating them.
Mink was dragged to the prison where she confessed to helping Hector with kidnaping Hawk and also confessed to helping Hector to k*ill Hawk’s nanny. Because of her confession, Arthur’s nanny, Ora, was released from the prison but she was also relieved from her duties.
Upon asking what her next plan was, Mink revealed that she was going to kidnap Arthur in order to keep him as collateral just in case the original plan failed. Hunter was so furious that he boxed her elbows, fracturing them into tiny pieces. “Being an omega, you will take forever to recover?’ he hissed. “And if you recover, I will ask my men to put you in the same state!”
Mink’s blood-curdling shrieks echoed in the dungeons. She begged and begged for mercy but Hunter was relentless. “Where is Hector at present?” He asked her to know about his location so that he could go and raid it and get his son back.
“I don’t know,” Mink cried. “He asked me to get Arthur to the edge of the pack’s territory. From there we would go to his hideout.”
Hunter punched her into ribs. “Liar!” he snarled. “Tell me his location, or I f*ucking k*ill you!”
Mink screamed as more pain blasted through her. She was an omega in the Crescent pack and she was facing the Lycan king who was the most powerful beast in all of America. She was no match to him. She was groveling on the ground after such an excruciating torture. She couldn’t bear it any more. She cried, “I don’t know. I don’t know. Please spare me.”
“Why should I spare you? You tried to k*ill Faria and then attack River. You don’t deserve mercy.”
“Please spare me Alpha Hunter?’ she cried. “If you spare me, I will tell you something very important.” Hunter narrowed his eyes on her and when he assessed that she was not lying, he said, “Tell me what is it.” Mink somehow managed to sit up. She scrambled away from him and said, “You have to promise that you won’t torture me again.”
After a long pause, Hunter nodded. “I promise that I won’t torture you.”
Through her pain, she breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Hector has planted bombs across the Crescent pack. His plan is to blow up the whole pack if you don’t succumb to his plan.”
Hunter wanted to wring her n*eck, but he clenched his fists. “Since how long did you know about it?” he asked, his voice low and lethal.
There was terror in her eyes. “You promised you won’t hurt me.”
“Answer my question, Mink,” he demanded and released his Alpha aura.
Mink started shuddering. She closed her eyes and said, “I helped him along with another rogue called Rooky. We have been finding the right places to plant the bombs.”
Hunter released a ragged breath. He closed the gap between them. Pinching her chin he lifted her face up. “Traitor. This pack gave you everything. This was your home. Your parents worked in the house of Alpha. And this is what you did to your Alpha? You believed the lies of the man who ran away when his father was being challenged? He didn’t support his father, you think he would support you?”
Mink gulped as she looked at Hunter as if disbelieving him. “He promised to marry me. You don’t know him. He will come to marry me.”
And that was the time Hunter realized that Mink was insane. She was living in a world of her own which was flamed by the lies of Hector. He shoved her away and asked, “You are going to tell me where he planted the bombs.”
There was an expression of worry in her eyes. “No, then you will k*ill me!”
“I can k*ill you right now also, but I won’t. Now tell me the location of the bombs.” He growled at her, spilling his aura to the level that she started howling and gasping for breath. Being River’s husband with whom he was mentally connected, he could use his aura on her pack members too.
Mink was forced to spill out all the locations. Once she revealed the spots where the bombs were planted, the warriors rushed to those places to diffuse them. “You will not torture me now, will you? As soon as Hector comes, I will go.” She still clung on to that hope.
Hunter growled, “I won’t torture you, but I didn’t say that my warriors won’t!”
“Noooo!” Mink shouted as Hunter left her to rot in the prison.
Hunter shuddered when the warriors told where all the bombs were placed. They were planted beneath the stones of the main market, in the gardens of many houses and a few around the Alpha’s manor. Hector was going all mad in his revenge.
When Hector called him the next day, along with his team, he went there. He was ready to give all the papers to Hector related to the pack. When Hector demanded those papers, Hunter threw them towards him. Little did Hector know that they were all fake.
What he didn’t anticipate was that Hector had another pawn in his game, Canna. The girl was clearly an omega but she had that crazy look in her eyes. She had put her thumb on the trigger, pressing which would have caused a catastrophe.
From the corner of his vision. Hunter saw Lena aiming her gun at Canna. Hunter saw this as an opportunity. He opened his mind link with her and said, ‘Aim at her thumb, not her head. And be precise.’ If Lena shot her in the head, there was no way that she wouldn’t have pressed the trigger.
All this time no one knew what was going on between them and all others were too afraid to even breathe. Lena nodded slightly and started aiming at Canna’s thumb. Through the mind link she said, ‘Buy me time.’ Hunter went on to negotiate with Hector while Lena adjusted her gun. When she was ready, she said, ‘I can take her.’
‘Go for it!’ Hunter replied.
Lena fired the shot and it went straight to Canna’s thumb. Her thumb was ripped off. Canna screamed in pain as she sank on the ground, whipping her head to see Lena. She tried to use her other h*and to press the trigger, but Lena shot that h*and also, crippling her.
Hector was aghast. He shouted for Rooky who emerged from the rat hole with a remote in his h*and. Rest was history.
Hunter reached the bedroom with his pup in his arms. “River,” he called her and released Hawk from his arms.
Upon seeing his mother, Hawk ran to her wobbling his way as soon as possible with his little feet. Arthur saw his twin brother and giggled. He started clapping.
Hawk came and hugged his mother’s l*eg and babbled, “Mama.”
