‘What if-’
‘Go. Please.’ Her wolf whined.
“Yeah sure,” she managed to squeak to him and then even managed to smile.
Shawn looked up at the girl at the counter and said, “Send our breakfast to my office.” He started to walk and Lena followed him out to his office. And when she reached his office, she was astonished and caught her jaw from falling to the ground when she read Shawn Mendez on the plaque on his door. So this guy was the owner of the hotel? Lena whimpered. She had to reject him and leave this place as soon as possible.
Shawn’s office was… luxurious. There was a large oak table in the center dominated by a big black leather chair for him while there were two smaller leather chairs on the opposite side. In the right corner was a thick white rug with a white couch and white sofa. A marble table sat over the rug. He waved for her to sit on the sofa with a very serious expression as he went to his table where he cl*icked on his mouse and started the meeting. Lena was finding it very odd to sit in the office of the owner of the hotel. Did he always have girls sitting like this and having meetings while glancing at them for kink. Jealousy flared i*nside her c*hest and she had the urge to beat every girl who sat on this sofa.
A girl entered inside and placed the breakfast on the table. She smiled at her and exited with a glance at Shawn.
Lena couldn’t help noticing that the girl blushed when Shawn nodded at her. She clenched her fists to tamper her jealousy, despite the fact that she shouldn’t be doing it because Shawn practically belonged to someone else. The thought sent a wave of pain through her heart like daggers soaked in vitriol. Lena really had to get out of this place or else the mere jealousy that she was experiencing every other second was going to turn her skin green or she would end up murdering someone.
She watched him take a meeting and however she tried to leave, her wolf didn’t allow her. She was enjoying the company and the smell of her mate. Shawn was taking his morning meeting with utter concentration and Lena found herself watching him shamelessly. It was good that he was focused on the meeting otherwise she wouldn’t have been able to watch him at all. She let out a ragged breath in order to shake off the feeling, but she couldn’t. She started to think of words on how to reject him, but nothing conjured up in her addled mind. The only question that kept popping up was why did he call her to have breakfast with him? Was a playboy who loved to flirt with women? Okay, jealousy again. S*hit.
Finally, half an hour later, Shawn closed his laptop and looked at her. He gave her a heart-stopping smile as he got up from his place and walked to the couch opposite to her with an envelope in his h*and. “I am sorry to keep you waiting for so long,” he said with the smile intact.
“It’s all right,” she said, excitement making her cheeks heat like fire in hell.
“Please, have something,” he said, waving at the dishes in front of her. “Else, I will feel bad that I kept you hungry.” Goddess, he was such a gentleman. And he wasn’t hers. Her wolf whined.
She nodded and picked up whatever she thought was there but couldn’t remember the names of the dishes. “You should try our baked salmon with white sauce,” he said, picking up one in a serving spoon and keeping it in her plate.
“Thank you!” Why was he being so nice with her? Lena forked salmon and started having it because he wanted her to have it. The question lingered in her mind. She wanted to ask why he picked her up but her t*ongue was locked.
As if adding to her predicament, Shawn said, “I saw you watching me… us in the garden from your window” She let out a nervous laugh. “It was just that you have a very pretty baby.”
He seemed to love the compliment. “Yes, Lia is my world.” He took a deep breath in. “Actually, I called you here because our hotel has picked you up as a lucky annual winner.”
She stopped eating and blinked at him. “For what?”
“You will be given a free stay for a duration of one month. So your room rent will be free, but you have to pay for your food and other activities.” He h*anded her the envelope. “Congratulations!”
Oh, so that was the reason why he called her? Her heart fluttered, blipped and sank. She was hoping that he was attracted to her. Stop thinking that, Lena! “Thank you,” she blurted rather sadly and took the envelope. “That’s really very generous of you.”
Shawn shrugged. “Just our hotel policy.” He picked up a plate and they had breakfast in silence. She wanted to ask him about his wife, but that would be too rude. After an awkward fifteen minutes of silence between them, she excused herself. “I have to go.”
“Oh, so soon?” he said with a frown. “You haven’t eaten well.”
“I will be swimming, so it’s better that I keep my stomach light,” she lied, smiling nervously.
“Oh, I see,” he remarked.
Lena got up and rushed to her room and just to give authenticity to her excuse, she wore a red swimsuit and went all the way to the swimming pool like a fool. She really wanted to spend her time brooding. The freebie that Shawn h*anded her wasn’t appealing because how could she stay near a man who was her mate without getting attracted to him and who had a wife. She slapped the towel out of frustration on the lounge chair. There were three more shifters swimming over there and they watched her with interest in their eyes. Lena just didn’t like how they were watching her.
She jumped in the pool from the highest board and hit the bottom of the pool. She didn’t feel like coming out because she could cry down here at her stupid situation. She had to leave this place before she committed any mistake. Finally when she couldn’t breathe under water anymore, she swam up. She smoothed her hair back from her face. Her jaw dropped when she saw Shawn on the other side of the pool, smoothing his blond curls back from his forehead. He waved at her the moment he saw her. She waved back through her fuzzy mind. He swam all the way to her and when he came to stand in front of her, he said, “I also needed a swim!” But Lena clearly remembered that he had already taken a bath. Like he was shaven and bathed and was looking like a fashion model in his office. He needed a swim after all that? But Lena couldn’t help feeling a nest of butterflies explode in her belly. “Oh, I see,” she said with a silly smile.
He stared into her eyes for a long time. “I was the state champion in swimming”
She was impressed. The three shifters out there coughed loudly but she didn’t pay any attention to them. “Oh wow!”
“How about a five-lap race with me? Whoever wins will have to treat the other one,” he suggested. Lena was taken aback. What were they? Teenagers? “Sure!” She was going to win h*ands on. He swam with her till the end of the pool and the race started. Lena was a shifter and her powerful strokes brought her faster to the other end, but she manipulated and let him win the race. When he emerged out, he looked at her with satisfaction in his eyes. “I win!” he said. “So it’s my treat!”
“Yes!” Lena grinned at him while she could sense the shifter males clearly looking aghast at her defeat. “Great,” Shawn said. “How about lunch?”
Lena nodded. She was already looking forward to lunch. Please goddess stop me, she said internally. Only her wolf’s voice came back. ‘Go for lunch!’
And Lena found herself dressed in silk green p*ants with a white blouse in his office two hours later. Shawn was already dressed in the same clothes he wore in the morning. “You look lovely,” he said as he saw her with a heated gaze.
Her cheeks heated up till her ears as her gaze locked with his. “Thank you” She bit her l*ip.
“Please come and sit. Lunch is served.” Without asking her, he caught her h*and gently and tugged her to the table where the lunch was already laid. And when he t*ouched her, delightful electric shivers ran down her body. She felt like holding his h*and, clutching his shirt and inhaling his scent and then burying herself in him forever. Her wolf purred at their first contact. He made her sit next to him and served lunch to her. Things were going too fast and she needed to put a brake on it. Tomorrow.
They had lunch in each other’s silent company. When it was over and she got up to leave, he said, “What are you doing for the evening? We have singing and piano recitals at the bar. You must come there!” He looked at her with so much hope in his eyes that she nodded despite thinking that she would decline it.
