“Beta?” He shook his head, and was not ready for it. “Does that mean that you have to stay away from me?” He sat beside her and pulled her in his lap. He wasn’t liking where it was going.
“Not for this month,” Lena replied and wrapped her arms around his n*eck. She k*issed him on his l*ips and he opened to her. When she removed herself, he let out a reluctant cry. She trailed the outline of his perfect l*ips. “Alpha River was upset with me over a certain issue.” She went on to narrate the problem. In the end she said, “In the last meeting, when I asked that I needed a month’s vacation, she readily granted it.” There was sadness in her voice. “I don’t know where I was wrong, but I apologized to her many times already.”
He cupped her cheeks. “Sometimes, you have to give space to your friends. I am sure she is going to miss you just as much as you are missing her. When I met River, she seemed like a pretty cool girl. I didn’t know that she had undergone so much. But-” he k*issed her forehead. “I am so proud of you for tackling the situation so nicely.” She chuckled. “You are biased.”
“No, anyone can see that.” He k*issed her on her l*ips. “But the main question remains. I can’t live without you and I won’t let you leave me. If you are okay with commuting to the Crescent pack every day, you are allowed to continue as their Beta, otherwise, you have to leave it. I won’t like a moment’s separation from you.”
“Shawn!” Lena was not surprised when he spoke like that. He was being selfish and possessive, but she was feeling just the same.
She buried herself in his c*hest, in his protective embrace and closed her eyes. She had to find a solution to this problem else she might lose either River or Shawn. And of course, little Lia whom she had come to like so much in just a few hours.
That evening after having dinner, Shawn and Lena went out for a walk with Lia in the baby stroller. And in that short walk, Shawn announced to everyone that he was hitched. There was so much pride in his voice that Lena found him c*ocky. He would sometimes lift her ring f*inger and show it off to the staff. When Lena came back to his home with Lia, Shawn said, “I have some very urgent work. A few important guests are arriving tomorrow and they have demanded to rent an entire floor. I don’t know how this will work out, but let’s see!”
“Okay,” she said and k*issed him on the l*ips before stepping out of the elevator. Shawn watched the two most precious people in his life with a grin before punching the button of the elevator and going to his office.
Lena h*anded Lia to Jane. “Many congratulations, Miss Lena!” Jane said. “This is wonderful news. You don’t know how happy you have made Mr. Shawn and little Lia.” Lena giggled. “Thank you, Jane. Can you get me a cup of coffee?”
“Sure, Miss Lena,” Jane replied and went to put Lia to sleep.
Lena strolled to the terrace and sat on the lounge chair as she looked at the sky that dazzled with the stars and as cool wind ruffled her hair at the ends. She hugged herself when she recalled the events of the day. In the morning she was thinking of leaving and now she was engaged. She let out a soft laugh and shook her head. She hadn’t been this happy in her life. Taking a deep breath in, she took her phone out and called her mother.
“Engaged? Mate?” Fiona squealed. “Goddess! Lenaaaa I am so happy for you!” She put the speaker on. “Your father has joined us.”
“Lena, my child,” her father said with a smile. “You’ve made me so proud of you once again.” Jack was genuinely happy that he and Fiona decided to send her to the hotel. “We would love to meet Shawn and if it is not too much to ask, is it possible that you get married by the next full moon? I mean I hope this doesn’t offend Shawn.” Lena laughed. “Father, you are in a great hurry. Shawn would marry me tomorrow if I ask him!”
“Then please ask him!” Jack replied with excitement. “There can be nothing more beautiful than you getting married tomorrow. Should I ask the Shaman to prepare for your wedding?”
“Father!” Lena laughed at his eagerness. “Please come and meet him first, okay?”
“Can we come tomorrow?” Jack couldn’t hide his enthusiasm.
“Of course!” she chirped. Then she remembered that Shawn would be busy the next day. “Oh wait! Come after two days. He is having some important del*egates coming to the hotel.”
“You got it!” Jack replied.
“Do you want anything from here?” Fiona asked as she embraced her husband.
“Nothing. Just get Reeves with you.” Her little brother Reeves was surely going to like little Lia.
“We will all come. You think Reeves would leave this opportunity?” Fiona smirked.
Lena went on to talk about how it all happened and that he has a little daughter from his previous girlfriend. She thought that her parents would have problems with it, but she was pleasantly surprised that they were too eager to meet their granddaughter. The conversation ended on a happy note. Jane had come by then and she gave coffee to Lena and took her leave.
As Lena had her coffee, she contemplated whether she should talk about this to her friend, River or not. Her cold treatment was putting her off, but she had to inform her Alpha about her mate. She didn’t know what decision she would take in the end, but at least now she would inform him. Thinking that, she sent a message to River: I found my mate in Shawn Mendez, who is the owner of Sapphire Hotel. We are engaged and will marry soon. She sipped her coffee as she thought about River’s reaction. None came. Lena closed her eyes and tipped her head back, resting it on the back of the lounge. She fluttered them open when he scooped her up in his arms and took her to the bedroom. “What time is it?” she asked in a sleepy voice.
“Shh… sleep love,” he said and made her lie on the mattress. He took her shoes out and covered her with a blanket. After removing all his clothes, he slipped next to her in his boxers and spooned her from behind.
Lena had a dreamless sleep. In the morning when she woke up, he was playing with her hair. “My parents want to meet you today.”
He stopped, his eyes wide. He got up with a jerk. “Gods, I am not even ready!”
She chortled. “I have a small request. If they ask you about marriage, you should say that you are ready when I am. Okay?”
He raised his eyebrow and gave her a t*ight nod.
What happened next was not what Lena had thought of.
Lena’s parents arrived at the hotel the next day. Reeves couldn’t come because he had tons of homework from school and had a test the next day.
While Shawn was extremely nervous and t*ight about the whole thing, Lena was buoyant. Shawn was expecting a serious scrutiny from her parents just like some would do in the human world. And the main reason was that he was engaged to Lena in just two days of meeting.
He was sure that this would raise concerns from her parents and that no parent in the world would agree to give their daughter’s h*and in marriage in just two days. That’s why he was extremely anxious on the inside while he put up a smile on the exterior.
They stayed in the same room where Lena was staying. In order to keep them satisfied and show that he meant to be serious in this relationship, he sent them the best cuisine of the hotel. There was not a thing that was out of place in their room. There were people on alert at all times to cater to their demand.
