Lena went to meet her parents when they came while Shawn stayed in the office. They were supposed to meet at lunch. Just before lunch, Shawn came home. Jane was dressing up Lia in a frilly yellow frock. She had put a bow on her hair and her ringlets looked silky and beautiful just like his. “You look great, Lia!” He unbuttoned his shirt.
“Where is Lena?” he asked Jane.
“She is in the bathroom,” Jane informed him. She made Lia wear shoes and after putting her in the crib, she went out.
Shawn opened his closet and scanned all his shirts in his boxers. There were about a hundred shirts in his closet and an equal number of p*ants but he couldn’t find one that would suit the occasion. He stabbed his f*ingers in his hair and rasped, “I don’t have a single shirt to wear! This is disastrous!”
Warm and soft arms curled him from behind and he cried. “Lena, I don’t have a single shirt to wear. I want to look nice so that they think I am worthy of their daughter.”
Lena could sense his tension. She knew that he was being very nervous about meeting her parents. She chuckled, “Shawn, wear anything and you would look just as beautiful.”
“No! What if they think that I am too poor to take care of their daughter. They might reject me!”
Lena k*issed his back. She couldn’t help smiling. “Shawn,” she said and made him turn to look at him. “They will absolutely love you. You are their daughter’s perfect mate.”
“But I proposed to you in two days. Isn’t that a red signal? He sounded bewildered.
“No.” She cupped his cheeks. “They want to meet you because they appreciate you. So wear whatever you like, it won’t matter.”
Shawn let out a sigh. He wasn’t convinced.
“Okay, I got an idea,” she said with a smile and walked to his closet. She took out a pale-yellow shirt with black p*ants matching her own daisy yellow silk dress. “Would you like to wear yellow?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. Shawn immediately noticed that both his beautiful girls were wearing yellow. He grinned and took the shirt from him, nodding vehemently. Lena giggled as she winked at Lia who jumped up and down and clapped.
The lunch was set in the private dining hall on the third floor. When the three walked in the room, Fiona squealed with joy seeing how they dressed up as a couple. She was joyous to mainly meet Lia. Jack got up with a happy smile and shook his h*ands with Shawn. “We are so happy to meet you,” he said, as he clasped Shawn’s forearms in the manly way of greeting.
All the tension that Shawn had, eased out. Lena’s family was so welcoming that he soon found himself warming up to them. Later he realized that he was tense for no reason. Apparently, mates were a very big thing amongst werewolves.
Over lunch, Jack asked him about his business and Shawn was more than happy to share the details. He was coming up with a new venture in the Crescent pack also.
“What? Really?” Lena asked, totally surprised that he didn’t tell her.
He smiled. “I decided about it last night, Lena. You said that you couldn’t leave your pack or your position, so I decided that I should open one hotel there.”
“Shawnnn!” Lena jumped up from her chair and hugged him and showered k*isses on his face. Shawn visibly blushed at her gesture, but he loved it when she k*issed him like that.
When Lena settled after squealing, she had Lia in her arms. “We are going to have so much fun Lia!” Lia giggled in all the support she could give.
Jack and Fiona gave each other a knowing glance. Jack turned to Shawn. He picked up his napkin and wiped his face. “I would like to offer you something, son,” Jack said. “It will be your choice if you want to accept it or not.” Shawn and Lena gazed at Jack with curious eyes.
“I don’t accept dowry. I mean humans don’t accept dowry. I mean no one that I know of.” Shawn thought that this might be a tradition in the werewolf community, but he wasn’t taking any dowry. He was pretty well-settled and had tons of money.
Jack chuckled. “I am not talking about dowry. What if I partner with you in your hotel venture in the Crescent pack?”
Shawn was surprised as he stared at Jack with unblinking eyes.
“But father? Lena replied. “That’s a lot of money. It would be all of your life-savings.”
Jack’s l*ips lifted. “And they would be spent wisely dear.”
“But what about Reeves? He will be joining the college and you would need money for that,” Lena said with concern in her voice.
“I have thought about it, Lena,” Jack said. “In fact, your mother and I were planning on opening a restaurant. With the two packs merged, there is a very large flow of Lycans and werewolves in our pack. Not only that, ever since River has opened up the trade opportunities, there is always a large number of people flocking to our pack. If Shawn wants to open a hotel, then I would rather partner with him. That would be wise.” Jack turned to see Shawn’s reaction. Shawn was absolutely quiet. There was awkward silence in the room. Jack lowered his face. “However, if you don’t want to, please don’t reject my daughter. She is a lovely girl…”
Other than Lia’s gurgling sound, the room was filled with thick silence. After a few moments, Shawn cleared his t*hroat. “Jack, I have known your daughter for only two days and your trust in me surprises me. But if it is of any solace to you, I can marry your daughter tomorrow.” Shawn was overwhelmed by Jack’s offer and wanted to show that he was happy to partner with him.
“What?” Lena exclaimed.
Fiona laughed as Jack’s l*ips curled up. “Can you marry her tomorrow?” Jack asked.
“Of course!” Shawn beamed. “And we can talk about the partnership details after that.”
“Traitor!” Lena grumbled. She had asked him to delay it. It was as if he and her parents were plotting against her. Jack and Shawn got up and embraced each other all over again. “Welcome to our family, Shawn,” he said and then winked at Lena who blew a strand of hair out of her gray eye in anger.
“Will anyone even ask me?” Lena pouted.
“I think we should ask Lia,” Fiona said, smiling at the little one.
Lia turned her face up. She tried to get up in Lena’s lap and then k*issed her cheek.
“See, even Lia wants you to be her mom!” Fiona said with a broad smile.
Lena giggled. “But I just met him,” she tried to reason with her parents. It was a different thing that her wolf was already somersaulting i*nside her.
Shawn was so happy that he eagerly asked, “So what time do we wed tomorrow?”
