“Where are you going?” Vee chuckled as Lara made her way towards the couch on the other side of the ward. She plopped down on the couch, facing the other side from Vicky, Sobbing.
Victoria’s heart melted. “Come on, Lara. Don’t be a crybaby. Lara sniffled, trying to get a hold of herself.
“Lara?”
“This is the most beautiful news I’ve heard all week. I want to stop crying so I don’t scare you away but I can’t.” She mumbled, wiping tears off her face with her thumb.
“You want me to come over there to hug you?”
“Don’t you dare stand up! You are still recovering and you need all the rest you can get.”
“Then come back here. I miss you already.”

Lara obeyed. She rose to her feet and went back to where she was previously seated beside Victoria.
“This morning, we had to see Sophie and Gracie before coming here. I told Gabriel to stop by the gift shop so we could buy toys for Sophie just so she wouldn’t feel sad that her parents were away. While searching for something unique to get for Sophie, My eyes caught a matching twin outfit. It was so beautiful. I was so close to buying it and now I regret that I didn’t. I’m definitely going back there to get it because my god babies deserve the best.”
“I probably sound and look stupid but I am so happy for you, Vee. You’ve had to endure so much and I have no doubt that this is just the beginning of the beautiful things that life has in store for you.”
“I’m happy you have the love of your life back in your life. I’m happy that you are happy with this news. God! I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that you are expecting twins.”
“Congratulations, my love. I’m so happy for you.” She pulled Vicky into a sisterly hug, sniffling.
“Thank you so much, Sis.” Vicky returned Lara’s hug, trying too hard not to tear up.
“Mama of twins, huh!” Lara smiled, pulling away from the hug.
“How does it feel?”
Vicky smiled. “I know it’s crazy but I’m still processing the news. It’s really exciting and almost unbelievable. Two babies at the same time? It’s definitely not what I expected! I really don’t know what I’m saying. I know I’m going to have my hands full but I’m happy, regardless.”
“Yeah, you and Oscar are going to have your hands full but it is going to be fine. By the way, how did he react?” Lara smiled, looking at Vee’s face in anticipation of what she was going to say.
“I’ve never seen him so excited about something. He’s so happy with the news and so thrilled to experience this with me.” “You both are amazing and you both deserve all the goodies coming your way.”
“Thank you. You have been so supportive of me and my family. I’m so grateful for all the love you showered on me.”
“Don’t mention. You are an amazing person and I want to see you happy.” “Sophie must be so ecstatic.”
Vee smiled. “I can’t wait to tell her. I see her jumping all over the place once she learns that she’s going to be a double big sister.”
“I’m so excited for her. She has wanted to be a big sister for so long. I’m glad everything is coming together for good.”
“I know being in this place is uncomfortable. I can’t wait for you to get better so you can be out of here.”
“Yeah, me too. How is Sophie? I miss her so much.”
She’s good. Gracie was worried too but we told her that you are fine. You can call her later so you can talk to Sophie too.”
“Yes, I would. Just that Sophie prefers video calls and I wouldn’t want her to see me like this.”
“I’m sure she would be fine with a voice call. She misses you and Oscar and kept asking Gabriel if you and Oscar went on a vacation.”
Vicky smiled. “I’m-hardly away from her so her questions are expected.”
“I feel so pained that I didn’t get that matching twin outfit. I should have listened to my godmother’s instinct.”
“Stop beating yourself up. There was no way you would have known.” “Yeah, but at least you would be so thrilled.”
“Let me guess, the twins’ outfit was that of a girl and a boy?” Lara nodded..
“What if they are two girls or two boys?”
Lara smiled even more. “Your bundles of joy are not even here yet and it feels so good talking about them.”
“I guess I’m going to wait to know their genders before I start buying stuff.” Vee nodded.
“We brought you food and a change of clothes.” Lara pointed to the table where she placed the items she brought earlier. “Thank you. My joy is so full that I don’t think I’ve got an appetite anymore.” “I understand you but you are eating for three now so food is a must.”
“Have you noticed any weird changes in your appetite?” Lara couldn’t help but ask.
“A little. I only noticed that I eat a bit more than I normally would.” Lara nodded. “You’re going to be eating more now.”
“And Congratulations once more. I’m so happy for you and Oscar.” “Thank you.” Vee smiled.
“What do you think they could be talking about?” Victoria asked, looking towards the door.
“Sorting their issues. Hopefully!” Lara guessed.
“I hope they aren’t doing otherwise.”
“Have some faith in your brother. Everything is going to be alright.” “I really hope so.”
“You still look worried, should I go check on them?”
Victoria nodded.
Giving Vee’s hand a light squeeze, Lara got down from the bed and made her way towards the door.
“This better be worth my time” Gabriel glared at Oscar the moment they were out of the ward.
“I’m not trying to please you because it looks like you are not going to change whatever perception you have about me which is fine. But at least let’s be civil since we both have Vicky’s interest at heart.”
“What do you want? I really want to have a talk with my sister.”
“Don’t you think you should give me some feedback on what occurred yesterday?”
“I forwarded the evidence to the officer in charge. We woke up this morning and no good news yet. But I’m sure we will have one soon.”
“Your ex-wife is probably aware of her offense and that is why it seems so impossible to reach her now.”
“Don’t call her my ex-wife.”
“Isn’t that what she is?”
“Just don’t call her my ex-wife. She has a name.” This time around it was Oscar that was glaring at Gabriel.
“And she won’t hide forever. I’m sure they will get a hold of her very soon.”
“I’m also about to reach out to my lawyers for a restraining order against them.”
“Impressive! I saw the guards you stationed at Vee’s place today.”
“I would do anything to protect my family. I thought I would just leave the police to do their job but it seems I’m going to let my boys be involved. They will probably lay their hands faster on Ingrid and Greg.”
“I don’t care about your strategies! Just do whatever you have to do to keep my Sister and niece safe. This incident shouldn’t repeat itself anymore!”
“It won’t.”
“Better! Because I don’t trust you.”
“Why do you dislike me so much?”
“I can’t believe after all my sister went through because of you, she still chooses you.”
“Destiny!”
“You mean suffering was part of her destiny? Please don’t say that word anymore!”
“Trust me, I’m good with not being on great terms with you but I know Vicky won’t want that, that’s why I am trying really hard here.”
“Just give me one reason why I should see you as a brother?” “You are punishing me for someone else’s sin!”
Gabriel frowned at Oscar.
“You know I’m speaking the truth. All the hurt has come from people around me and not me.”
“I know Vicky has suffered. But I’ve suffered too.”
Gabriel stared at Oscar, not saying anything.
“I never got to say this but Thank you for everything you did for her while I wasn’t in the picture. She told me you were more of a brother to her and I really appreciate it. You also played a wonderful role as Sophie’s father. Thank you for everything and if there is any way I can repay you, please let me know.”
“I hate the fact that you are this way.”
“What do you mean?” Oscar couldn’t help but ask
