He could feel Rachel’s cautiousness and her indecision.
“I thought I was patient enough, but every time you show up, it’s like a test. I think I’m probably going to break my word.”
He had never been a gentleman and was best at taking things by force.
“David Jones, don’t you think we are progressing too quickly?” Rachel sighed helplessly. The man before her seemed calm and reserved, but his way of doing things was domineering.
“I just ended a three–year relationship and immediately started another one. This decision is too hasty and irresponsible for you.”
It was often said, “Where you fall, you stand up.” But not everyone has the courage to get up.
After experiencing the feeling of being cut by a knife, who would be willing to touch it again so easily?
Escaping slowly became an instinct.
“But it’s often said that the best way to get out of a traumatic relationship is to enter a new one quickly,” David replied.
“But this is unfair to you.” Rachel knew she could not break free from David’s embrace, so she let him hug her. She sighed slightly and said calmly, “If I agree to your pursuit to walk out of the trauma of my previous relationship, I think this is a despicable method. Not only will it taint the beauty of love, but it will also insult your feelings.”
David was incredibly patient. When Rachel finished speaking, he asked casually, “Then tell me what the essence of love is?”
“I think it’s a choice without weighing the pros and cons.”
“Yes and no.” David lifted her chin with his finger, forcing her to look at him directly. “Love is that I have overcome all obstacles to lead the sunlight to you. Love is that I am willing to be a weapon on your battlefield. I will forever submit to you and be your most loyal believer.”
Rachel looked into his deep eyes, and her heart seemed to be gripped by something. It began to race uncontrollably.
Her fingertips curled slightly as she muttered softly, “David Jones…”
Before she could finish speaking, David suddenly leaned over and kissed her lips.
This kiss was different from the past. It revealed an oppressive force and did not allow Rachel to catch her breath at all.
Rachel’s eyelashes trembled in panic, and the first aid kit in her hand fell to the ground.
She struggled and pushed David’s chest, but it was like a mayfly shaking a tree.
David hugged her tightly and plundered her breath. He greedily took her breath away and did not let go of any corner.
Unknowingly, Rachel gradually lost the strength to struggle. Her entire body was limp as she leaned into his arms. Her arms involuntarily hooked around his neck as she endured his intense kisses. Her fair face was dyed red as she struggled to breathe.
Just as her head spun and she was about to suffocate, David reluctantly released her.
He looked at her blushed face, and his eyes were filled with a faint smile. “Rae–Rae, be my woman.”
There were no extravagant or romantic words. He only said simply, “Be my woman.”
At that moment, Rachel somehow felt a sense of sincerity and warmth.
She even wondered if anyone in this world other than David Jones was willing to tolerate and protect her.
He even told her, “Do what you want. I’ll support you in whatever you do.
“I’m willing to submit to you and be your most loyal believer.”
He never cared about her indifference and sensitivity.
He was still willing to open his arms even if she was covered in thorns and filled with hostility.
“I can’t follow your steps.”
Facing Rachel’s suggestion, David pressed on. “Then tell me what steps I should take.”
Rachel was speechless.
At this moment, Mrs. Brown knocked on the door from outside. “Miss Grey, the food is ready.”
Rachel turned to look at David and said calmly, “I’m hungry.”
Her pure black and white eyes seemed to be covered in a layer of mist, itching David’s heart inexplicably.
David smiled and replied calmly, “If you don’t want to leave this room, feel free to look at me like this.”
Rachel was left speechless again by his words.
“Then what do you want?”
“Why are you asking when you already know the answer?” David slowly bent down and caressed her sensitive ears with his fingertips. His deep voice slowly sounded. “Be my woman, will you?”
His breath was on the skin between her neck, making her tremble. Her fair cheeks were blushed with shyness. “I just feel that our progress is a little too fast.”
“You just feel?” David raised his eyebrows, and a meaningful smile flashed across his eyes. “Can I take it as an agreement?”
Rachel looked at him. A sly smile flashed across her almond–shaped eyes as she imitated his previous tone. “Yes and no. After all, I haven’t felt the 100% sincerity of someone…”
“There’ll be plenty of time for you to feel it.”
“Alright,” Rachel said calmly. “However, I have three rules. You can’t kiss me whenever you want. You have to keep a proper distance from me…”
The smile on David’s face disappeared a little when he heard her words. “You can continue to keep a distance from me, but I reject your three rules.”
She had agreed to him and refused to kiss and hug him. She even wanted to keep a distance from him. “How dare she!” David thought.
Rachel had nothing to reply to him.
“Didn’t you say you were hungry? Come, let’s go downstairs for dinner.”
As he spoke, he held Rachel’s hand and walked out.
Rachel looked at their interlocked fingers and could not help but smile.
She knew that she had staked everything on this.
Her future was out of her control from the moment she agreed to him.
While they were eating, the atmosphere was very quiet. However, David’s actions and how he looked at Rachel had an unusual amount of pampering and infatuation.
Rachel ate with her head lowered, but she could clearly feel David’s burning gaze on her as if he wanted to swallow her whole.
She ate in silence until she felt full. Then she put down the cutlery in her hand and picked up a napkin to wipe the corners of her mouth. “I’ll inform my assistant to pick me up this afternoon.”
David looked up at her with a complicated and dark gaze. “A large part of your illness is caused by your irregular diet and unstable schedule. Moreover, you’ve just recovered and are not suitable to work quickly. Why don’t you stay here and rest for a while?”
Rachel smiled and shook her head. “I’ll adjust my schedule.”
Moreover, she felt it was inappropriate for her to live here.
David’s gaze darkened. “I’ll send you to the office tomorrow morning.”
In other words, she was not allowed to leave tonight.
Mrs. Brown, who had been silent at the side, spoke up as if it was the truth. “Miss Grey, before the doctor left, he specially instructed you to rest well. Mr. Jones is right. You should stay tonight for your health.”
Rachel hesitated for a long time. Ultimately, she could not stand the two’s eager and hopeful gazes and nodded silently.
David’s lips curled into a faint smile as he continued eating.
After lunch, he held Rachel’s hand and walked around the garden. Finally, they stopped at the pavilion to rest.
David looked at Rachel, who was sitting opposite him and frowned imperceptibly. “Are you afraid of me?”
Rachel shook her head slightly. “I think we still need to maintain a certain distance.”
“The appropriately closer distance between couples can benefit the relationship,” David said as he stood up and walked straight toward Rachel. Without explanation, he carried her in his arms and placed her on his lap.
