Filed to story: Offered to the Lycan King Novel by Misha K (River & Hunter)
Lena’s parents invited Shawn and Lia to the Crescent pack where they said the ceremony would take place. They informed the Shaman and he was confused as to how he was going to conduct the ceremony.
A union between a human and a werewolf was never heard of. However, ever since Alpha Hunter had started calling humans in this world, the Shaman was optimistic that more mates would be found. But… the question still remained. How was he going to get them married? Surely, using the sacred knife of the Moon Goddess wouldn’t work on Shawn.
After lunch, all of them went to Shawn’s penthouse where they began talking about marriage. Lena said that she wanted a very private affair.
“But that’s impossible, Lena,” Jack said as he took wine from Shawn and sat down on the couch. Since Lia had slept, Lena had made her sleep in her crib in the nursery. Jane had gone to prepare coffee for Lena and her mother. “You are the pack’s Beta and everyone would want to come to your party. You are a public figure.”
Lena was restless. She took a deep breath in as she looked at her phone. The message that she had sent to River was still there with no response. It was hurting Lena a lot. “I don’t know, papa…” she said in a low voice. “I want this to be a low affair because of all the mayhem that was caused because of Hawk’s disappearance. It was a huge issue and I don’t think it will be taken nicely by the pack members.”
“Then how about we have the wedding in my hometown?” Shawn suggested.
“Your hometown?” Lena was surprised. “You mean in the church?”
“Yes, that’s right,” he said.
Lena c*ocked her head as she blinked at him. Fiona and Jack were also surprised at the suggestion. “Would that be valid in our pack?” Fiona asked with an unsure voice. “This has never happened before.”
“In that case, you should have it in my hometown,” Shawn insisted. “It will pave the way for future mates.” Jack stared at Shawn and was deep in thought while Fiona rubbed her n*eck. Things were surely getting weirder. The fact that the Shaman didn’t raise a hue and cry over their union was a big thing, but having her wedding in his hometown was weirder.
“Then none of our members will be able to attend it,” Fiona said quietly. Jane came with their coffees and h*anded it to them and went to Lia’s room.
“I know,” Shawn said. “But I think that is the best solution at the moment considering the situation that Lena just mentioned. Not only that, in order for me to take her as my wife, I have to marry her in my world. It would be l*egal only that way.”
Jack pursed his l*ips and gulped his wine. He walked to the bar to pour more wine for himself. “Son, do you mean that your marriage in our world won’t be deemed l*egal?”
Shawn nodded. “That’s the truth. Most humans don’t even know that werewolves exist.” He sipped his wine as he noticed other’s reactions. Everyone was silent, but that was the truth. “My parents are no more, but I have many relatives in my hometown. It wouldn’t be a big affair with very limited people, but it will be l*egal.” It suited Lena. “Perfect!” she said with a smile. “I am ready!” Her eagerness to marry him made him laugh softly. “But we have to talk to the Shaman,” Jack insisted. “We have to take his opinion.”
“Yes, sure!” Lena rasped. She was going to marry him in his hometown. After that she would do whatever Shaman was going to ask for. “Why don’t you suggest to him that we would be interested in a very small and private ceremony since we are getting married in the human world?”
Jack scratched his head at this funny problem.
“Okay, tell me one thing,” Shawn said, leaning forward, seeing Jack’s dilemma. “What if I belonged to a different pack?”
“Then Lena would have gone to that pack to marry you,” Jack replied. “And she would have stayed with you. If she wanted, she could have given up on her Beta duties.”
“Then consider that I am from a different pack,” Shawn shrugged. “It’s simple.”
Jack let out a nervous laugh. He liked Shawn’s reasoning, yet he dialed the Shaman’s number.
“I think it’s a great idea!” The Shaman replied rather enthusiastically. “They must get married in his hometown.” The Shaman was happy that he wouldn’t be thinking about how to conduct this complicated marriage. “I will think of a way of validating it once they are back here.”
Jack got worried. “What if you don’t find a way?”
“Don’t worry Jack!” The Shaman scolded him. “I will read the books and also talk to other Shamans. I am sure that there has to be at least one recorded marriage amongst humans and werewolves. If not, it is better. We will make our own rules.”
Jack nodded. There was no other option left. “Okay… the wedding will take place in your hometown,” he said, disconnecting the call.
Shawn smiled and squeezed Lena’s shoulder with his h*and. “How about we go this Saturday? I will have to ask some people to do the work for me. Like reserving the church and inviting my family. We can have the wedding on Sunday and the wedding lunch just after it? I will have to send my plans and will leave the rest to the wedding planner.”
“Sounds great!” Jack exclaimed. “We will go there on Saturday!”
“Yes, we can go together,” Shawn offered. “In my SUV.”
Lena’s parents left on a cheerful note. Shawn said he was going to pick them up on Saturday, early in the morning. It was a six hours drive to his hometown.
At night, Lena sent a message to River that she was getting married to Shawn in his hometown, Middleton in Idaho. She let out a ragged breath when the message appeared ‘delivered’. The last message was still unread. She placed the phone on the side table and snuggled in Shawn’s c*hest. She closed her eyes and went off to sleep. Maybe she had to give up on her Beta duties if River maintained her cold demeanor towards her. For a pack to run healthily, there had to be a smooth coordination between its Alpha and Beta.
The whole week went by so quickly that Lena was on the edge of her nerves on Friday while she was packing for her wedding. Even though Shawn had assured her that the wedding planner had done a wonderful job and showed her all the pictures of how she had prepared, Lena was antsy. “I have never been married before!” she squeaked, holding Lia in her arms. “I think Lia and I are just fine here.” Lia giggled as she placed another k*iss on the woman, she had come to love in such a short time. “Oh Lia, I love you too! Ask your daddy to go and marry himself!” Shawn laughed as he came to hug his girls. “Everything will be fine, love,” he said and placed a k*iss on her cheek. “Why are you developing cold feet?”
“What if I am a bad wife?” she cried.
“You can’t be worse than what you already are,” he teased her.
She smacked him on his c*hest and then leaned against it. He curled his arms around her. “I have never been so right in my life, Lena. Please, let’s just get married.”
And Lena agreed to him all over again, nodding lightly. He had this way of calming her and making her agree to him all the time.
Saturday morning, they packed their luggage in the SUV and traveled to the Crescent pack to pick up her parents and brother. It was 8AM when they reached Lena’s home. Reeves was a bundle of energy, hopping around everywhere. He hugged Lena t*ightly and sat next to Lia in the SUV. He had never seen a human baby and was intrigued by her. By 9 AM, they all started for Middleton.
They stopped midway to have lunch. Lena’s family had never come to the human world and so they were pretty excited. At the same time, they were overwhelmed with new scents. Shawn gave them masks to wear which helped them a lot. When they reached his home in Middleton, it was already 4 PM. Lena was surprised to see that Shawn had a cozy cottage in uptown but it was locked. He opened it using his key and entered it.
“This is my parents’ place,” he said with a warm smile. He h*anded the keys to Lena. “Now this is ours.”
