“Neil!” Grayson said sternly, “Ella is your younger sister!”
“I won’t acknowledge that!” Neil said coldly, “She can’t be my sister when she is such a hypocrite!”
Grayson slapped Neil and roared, “How could you speak about your sister like this!?”
Neil’s eyes turned cold. “I will find the evidence to prove that what I claim is right, Grandpa!”
Neil left Xander Residence after saying that.
Daniella cried even more profusely. “I’m sorry, Grandpa. It’s all my fault.”
Grayson grabbed Daniella’s hand and comforted her, yet his expression turned solemn. “I’ll help you to solve this!”
On Wednesday night, Scott invited River and Paige to dinner.
River headed out to the restaurant after notifying Lily.
A black stopped in front of her when she was hailing a ride outside the villa.
“Come with me, Ms. Healy.”
River looked at the speaker vigilantly. “Who are you?”
“You don’t need to ask this!”
“I have the right to decline then!” River turned around and walked quickly toward Villa Rosa.
The man immediately stepped forward, stretched out his hands to grab River’s arms, and violently pulled her to the car.
River resisted with all her strength and shouted, “Let go of me!”
The man slapped River, causing her ear to hum, and she almost lost her footing from the impact.
Seizing the opportunity, he dragged her into the car and ordered the driver coldly, “Drive.”
River didn’t dare to act rashly, knowing she couldn’t fight this man. If he were to harm her, her children’s lives would be at stake.
She glared at the man, cautiously reaching for her phone in her pocket to call Reuben.
Unfortunately, the man snatched her phone before she could make a call and tossed it out of the window, leaving her shocked and helpless.
River tried not to think about what would happen next as fear filled her. She gazed at the passing scenery through the window, her mind racing. She couldn’t escape, or she might suffer a miscarriage.
Trying to remain calm, she sought a way to handle the situation.
Two hours later, the car stopped in front of a house surrounded by a pitch–black forest.
The man forcefully dragged River out of the car, and the driver held open the house’s door, pushing her inside. The door was slammed shut and locked.
River tried to open the door, but it was futile. She felt trapped, and desperation set in.
She called out, “Who are you? Why are you holding me against my will?”
She then heard the car’s engine start, realizing she might be imprisoned to her death.
With no one around to help, no phone, and no food, River felt helpless. She looked around the empty house, her fear growing as she explored its icy–cold walls.
Meanwhile, Scott and Paige were at the restaurant, continuously calling River’s phone.
“Her phone is still turned off,” Scott said, sighing.
Paige was extremely anxious. “I’ll call the boss!”
Scott was surprised. “Noah?”
Paige admitted, “I know you won’t be happy about it, but I didn’t tell you that River was at Villa
Rosa while you were away.”
After Paige briefly recounted the events, Scott frowned, looking slightly disappointed. “Do you think Noah turned off her phone because I kept calling?”
Paige shook her head. “I’m not sure. I’ll give him a call to check.”
Paige dialed Noah’s number, and he answered in a deep voice, “Hello.”
“Sorry to interrupt, Mr. De Marco. Is River around? I need to talk to her.”
“I just came out of a meeting, and I’m not at Villa Rose. I think she’s at home now.”
“Can you give me the house number? River’s phone is turned off.”
Noah furrowed his brow. “I’ll call you back.”
After hanging up, Noah called the house number.
Lily answered the phone, saying, “Hello, sir.”
“What is River doing?” Noah asked.
“Ms. Healy?” Lily was confused. “Ms Healy is out for dinner with her friends. I think she’ll be home soon.”
“Dinner?” Noah’s voice turned cold instantly. “When did she go out?”
Lily asked Noah with concern, “She went out at six. Did something happen?”
Noah’s expression turned cold. “Noted.”
After hanging up, Noah called Paige.
Paige answered the phone quickly. “Is River home, Mr. De Marco?”
Noah asked sternly, “Did you ask her out to dinner?”
Paige panicked. “I did, but I’ve been waiting in the restaurant all this time. Her phone is turned off!”
Noah stood up abruptly, his eyes filled with coldness. “I’m hanging up now!”
He immediately called Reuben and ordered, “River is missing. Send someone to look for her.”
As he spoke, he walked out of the office swiftly.
Paige panicked in the restaurant. “What should we do? River isn’t in Villa Rosa!”
Scott stood up quickly. “Let’s go to Redwood Neighborhood. Maybe she’s home and forgot to charge her phone. Calm down first. It might just be her forgetfulness combined with her sleepiness from the pregnancy.”
Paige nodded and followed Scott to Redwood Neighborhood.
The neighbor across the street opened the door after they knocked on River’s door. “Stop knocking! It’s annoying! It’s been a long time since she’s been back here!”
Scott asked, “Hasn’t she come home today, sir?”
The man glared at Scott in displeasure. “No! I’ve been home all day, so I would have heard her opening the door if she did!”
The man slammed the door shut.
Paige was panic–stricken. “Where is River? She’s been in a good mood for the past few days!”
Scott asked calmly, “Has she gotten into a conflict with anyone recently?”
Paige thought for a moment.
She raised her head soon afterward. “It’s Daniella! No one would cause trouble for River other than her
Scott was visibly worried. “Let’s figure out a way to get in touch with her.”
Paige said, “Sure, I’ll figure out a way while you drive us around to look for her!”
Scott nodded.
River woke up slowly when a gleam of light shone through the crack of the door. She could see the house vaguely in the light. There was nothing there except for dust.
River licked her dried lips, got up slowly, and walked over to knock on the door.
She refused to give up when there was a chance she might live by encountering a scavenger.
She knocked for a long time until her hands hurt before she rested. She sat on the ground once again and thought about who might want to harm her.
River suddenly remembered the news about Neil sometime ago.
Could it be Grayson?
River’s expression was solemn because she knew that she would be doomed if it were Grayson.
At Villa Rosa.
Noah sat on the sofa in exhaustion, his eyes bloodshot.
The coldness exuding from his body terrified Reuben and Lily so much they did not dare to make a sound.
Suddenly, the phone’s ringtone broke the heavy atmosphere of the house.
Noah grabbed the phone immediately and picked up the call after realizing it was Paige.
“Have you found River, Mr. De Marco?” Paige’s voice was raspy as if she had been crying. “We searched the whole night but couldn’t find her…”
Noah’s heart wrenched in pain. “I haven’t gotten any updates about her.”
Paige mustered the courage to say, “Mr. De Marco, you may fire me for saying this, but I think that this is definitely Daniella’s doing!”
