Noah narrowed his eyes. “Do you have any evidence to prove that?”
“I swear on my life that Daniella has been targeting River continuously. Please trust me and talk to her, will you?” Paige pleaded.
Noah kept quiet for a long while. “Okay.”
After hanging up, Noah immediately ordered Reuben, “Continue to track Daniella’s whereabouts!”
Reuben nodded. “Yes, sir.”
Noah grabbed his coat and walked out of the villa. He got into the car and drove to De Marco Residence swiftly.
When he arrived at his family home, he found Draco having breakfast.
Sensing Noah’s hostile presence, Draco placed down his cutlery in displeasure. “What brings you here so early?”
“Did you take River?” Noah asked coldly.
“This is preposterous!” Draco stood up abruptly and roared, “Check the time! How dare you come here to question me at half past six in the morning? Do you have any respect for your father?
Where are your manners!”
Noah’s gaze was solemn as he spoke through his gritted teeth. “It would be best if you didn’t. Or else, don’t blame me for targeting your two good sons!”
Draco was so furious that he smashed the plate on the floor. “You will be ruined by the manipulative woman sooner or later!”
Noah shifted his solemn gaze, turned around, and left.
As Noah got into the car, he received Reuben’s call.
“Mr. De Marco, we found Ms. Healy’s phone by the road based on her last GPS location.”
“Where is the location?” Noah asked anxiously.
“Not far away from the villa. The surveillance cameras in the nearby areas were damaged during the time Ms. Healy went missing.”
Noah angrily hit the steering wheel and roared ferociously, “Keep searching!”
He tossed away his phone and drove back to Villa Rosa.
On his way back, he thought about the people that River had interacted with. Scott and Paige had been searching for River last night, so the only other person she could have interacted with was Neil
Noah dialed Neil’s number.
Neil had not slept all night, either. He had been spending his time looking up River’s information on his computer.
He picked up Noah’s call after a moment of confusion.
“Is River with you?” Noah’s voice was cold.
Neil felt uneasy. “Isn’t she staying at your place? Why are you asking me this? Did something bad happen to her?”
Noah could hear the anxiety in Neil’s voice. “She didn’t come home last night, and her phone was discarded by the road. I hope you’re telling me the truth now, Neil!”
“This is not the time for you to question me!” Neil refuted in displeasure. “I’m not so indecent that I would come and take River away yet!”
Neil suddenly remembered last night’s incident. His gaze dimmed as he said, “It’s highly possible that my grandfather did this. Daniella has constantly been complaining to my grandfather recently. It’s possible he might have avenged Daniella in view of his temper.”
“I’m coming over now!” Noah said.
“Wait!” Neil stopped him immediately. “Coming now is useless, and you might alert my grandfather. I know him well. He won’t reveal River’s location unless you end your relationship with her and marry Daniella.”
Noah could not refrain from speaking in anger. “Tell me what I should do then!”
Neil was slightly stunned that the usually calm Noah would actually lose his composure for
River.
“I’ll gather information and inform you when I find anything at once.”
Noah hung up the phone as soon as Neil’s voice faded.
Soon afterward, Neil called his personal assistant. “Max, prepare three covert listening devices for me.”
River lay on the floor, her red, swollen hands shaking. She stared at the crack in the door from day to night and then to day again.
The claustrophobic house and the fear of death crushed her spirit constantly. She hadn’t ended her life because of the three lives growing inside her womb.
She closed her eyes, and Noah’s figure appeared in her mind. Over the past few days, she had thought about many things and suspected the Xanders or the De Marcos were probably behind her predicament.
Both families had vast connections and great influence, making it impossible for her weak self to stand up against them.
Alone and pregnant, she worried about what would happen to her children when they were born. They were innocent, and she still had yet to avenge her mother.
Curling up her body, River decided to place a bet for her children’s future survival. She wanted to believe that Noah would keep and protect them.
At Villa Rosa.
Noah sat on the sofa with a gloomy expression. The stubbles on his chin added to his worn–out appearance. His bloodshot eyes remained fixed on his phone without looking away.
Lily approached Noah, holding a bowl of soup. “Eat something, sir. Otherwise, your health will deteriorate before Ms. Healy is found.”
Noah took the bowl from Lily, but his expression remained solemn. He took a couple of sips before a commotion at the door caught his attention. His eyes turned cold as he saw Daniella being led in from afar.
Noah’s intense gaze took aback Daniella. Rushing forward, she spoke with pity. “Noah, you-”
Noah’s voice was terrifying as he interrupted her, demanding, “Daniella, I didn’t see you for three days out of respect for the Xanders. Tell me now, where is River?”
“River?” Daniella shook her head in astonishment. “I don’t know.”
“Don’t know?” Noah’s eyes narrowed, and he moved closer to her. “You cried and complained to Mr
Xander, yet you’re telling me you don’t know?”
Terrified, Daniella stumbled back onto the sofa and began to cry. “I really don’t know, Noah I did complain to my grandfather, but I have no idea about River’s situation!”
The southern suburbs were a vast area. Noah’s subordinates spent a day searching, and Paige and
Scott joined them.
At 1:00 am, the bodyguards narrowed the search area to a forest, and Noah came rushing over after hearing the noises.
The bodyguards searched the forest with flashlights and soon found a house.
A bodyguard immediately shouted, “Mr. De Marco! There’s a house here!”
Noah walked in the direction of the voice, and his gaze dimmed visibly when he saw the metal chain used to lock the door. “Smash it!”
The bodyguards broke the metal chain in a few seconds with their tools.
When the door was opened, Noah saw River curling up on the ground right away.
His heart was racing, and he rushed into the house.
“River!” Noah’s voice sounded shaky.
River lay on the ground without moving, and her emaciated face was ghastly pale. She appeared to be on the verge of death.
Noah scooped River up into his arms, his eyes bloodshot.
He roared to the bodyguards harshly, “Get Scott to come quickly!”
Daniella rushed to the desk and asked in tears, “Grandpa, did you take River? I know you did it for me, but if you really did take River, will you release her, please?”
Grayson’s expression turned somber. “Ella, have you forgotten how overbearing she was to you?
Don’t you want Noah and the marriage anymore?”
Daniella shook her head, crying. “Noah wanted to choke me to death when I was at Villa Rosa earlier, Grandpa. We can’t rush love, and I believe that I can still get back Noah!
“But if something bad happens to River, my relationship with him will be over. He’s going to make me get an abortion!”
“Did he really say that?” Grayson’s gaze turned grave. “I’m going to go hostile on him if that’s the case!”
Daniella was shocked. Did Grayson really abduct River? She didn’t want to have a falling out with Noah! She loved Noah and could deal with River anytime, but not now!
Daniella wept. “I’m begging you, Grandpa! Your action must have intimidated her enough to stop fighting for Noah’s attention with me. Plus, I’m already three months along. It would be bad for me to get an abortion now. I’ll lose my mind if I become infertile.”
Grayson was startled. “You’re too kind, child. I did get someone to abduct her and put her in a deserted house in the southern suburbs. Here’s an idea. We’ll wait two more days. I’ll release her if she survives this, okay?”
Daniella felt immensely relieved that Grayson would be so accommodating. She wanted to use this opportunity to change Noah’s perception of her.
However, Daniella was unaware that Neil had overheard everything. He sent a voice message to
Noah as soon as he heard the conversation. Then, he put on his coat and drove to the southern suburbs.
When Noah listened to Neil’s voice message, his eyes were filled with bloodthirsty coldness. He ordered Reuben to bring more people to search the southern suburbs before he left Villa Rosa.
Daniella called when he was driving. Noah picked up the call solemnly.
“Noah, she’s in the southern suburbs. The exact location is unknown.”
Noah hung up the call without saying anything. He would deal with the Xanders for this sooner or later!
The southern suburbs were a vast area. Noah’s subordinates spent a day searching, and Paige and Scott joined them.
