“Wait,” Noah demanded coldly.
Sensing the tension, River hugged Scott tightly and said. “Dear, is he your friend? You guys catch up next time. I’m starving right now. Let’s grab a bite, okay?”
Her coquettish tone caught Noah off guard, and even Reuben looked shocked.
Scott nodded politely. “Mr. De Marco, my girlfriend isn’t happy. We’ll go now. Goodbye.”
After that, they hugged each other tightly and got into the car.
Noah was infuriated by the unpleasant scene. As the car left, his face darkened.
Reuben asked hesitantly, “Mr. De Marco, I don’t think Ms. Healy would behave that way, right?”
Noah snorted, suspicious of River’s avoidance.
“Did you find anything about that woman?” Noah demanded icily.
Reuben braced himself and replied, “Not a clue.”
“Send more people to stalk the two kids when they pick up Axel after school this afternoon. I want to know where they live.”
Noah narrowed his eyes as he watched where the car headed.
He knew that she was River.
River glanced at Scott awkwardly in the car. Im sorry. I didn’t expect to run into them. I used you as a shield.”
Tm glad you used me as a shield, Scott replied, smiling
River blushed at his remark.
“It’ll be 5:00 pm. soon. Let’s pick up the kids,” Scott tried to ease River’s uneasiness
River nodded. “After picking them up, why don’t you come to my house and eat with us?”
“Sure.” Scott smiled and agreed.
Classes at the kindergarten ended at 5:00 pm.
As soon as Tyler and Liora walked out the door, they saw Scott
Liora’s eyes lit up, and she excitedly threw herself into Scott’s arms. “Papa Wilson!”
“Lia.” Smiling, Scott lifted Liora and extended his hand to Tyler. “Ty.”
Tyler was thrilled to see Scott and gladly held his hand
“Papa Wilson, did you just get back?” Tyler asked.
“Yeah, your mother even came to the airport to pick me up.’ Scott replied.
“That’s what she should do,” Tyler teased, looking at River.
River felt awkward and helpless.
Tyler liked bringing her together with Scott.
“Yeah,” she replied..
Then, they heard a girl’s voice.
“Tyler, Liora, is this your father? Aren’t you guys fatherless?”
Liora glared at the girl and retorted, “Yes, he’s my father. He’s busy with work and just got back from abroad! Tyler and I are not fatherless!”
The girl pouted and left.
River felt a pang of bitterness hearing Liora’s words. Liora never asked about her father, but she must have imagined having a father who could protect her like the other children.
River looked at Scott, who carefully carried the child into the car.
Maybe she should consider her relationship with Scott for the children’s sake.
Upon returning home, Lily was thrilled to see Scott and enthusiastically prepared a feast for him.
Scott rolled up his sleeves to help in the kitchen. River wanted to lend a hand too, but Scott insisted she stay out of it.
Before dinner, Scott took the children to wash their hands while Lily carried the dishes out
As they settled in, Lily addressed River, “River, I know it’s not my place, but I’ve observed things over the years, and I feel I should remind you. Doctor Wilson is caring and attentive, especially to the kids. Considering him might be best for their sake.”
River fell silent momentarily. “Lily, I still need to sort things out. I don’t want to burden Scott.”
Lily reassured her, “Doctor Wilson knows that too, but he’s willing to support you regardless. You need someone to share the pressure.”
River looked down. “I already owe him so much.”
“Then why not give him a chance? You don’t have to shut yourself off from happiness, Lily urged.
River glanced at the harmonious scene in the washroom, remembering how he stood by her despite her previous rejection. She considered the possibility of accepting him.
Meanwhile, Noah received a text and location from Julian at an international five–star hotel.
Julian: [Mr. De Marco, we followed them to Bayview. They are staying in the Third Villa]
Noah extinguished his cigarette.
Noah: [Send me the resident’s information in ten minutes.]
Julian: Understood, Mr. De Marco.]
Noah drummed his fingers rhythmically on the sofa.
Bayview Villa was situated in the city center, with each villa costing over 4,000,000 dollars.
Noah’s subordinates discovered she hadn’t used the money he had given her–the sum remained untouched in her bank account. The fact she could afford such a villa puzzled them.
Julian quickly sent Noah information about the resident of Third Villa–a person named Rivella
Healy.
Rivella Healy and River Healy.
The similarity between the two names made it evident that she was indeed River.
Noah texted Julian, instructing him to keep an eye on Third Villa and obtain a photo of the resident.
After dinner at Bayview, River asked Scott to join her in the study. She wanted to share Axel’s problem with him and not keep it a secret any longer.
She handed him a glass of juice and sat down on the sofa.
Scott looked at her with tender, clear eyes, asking, “Do you have something to tell me?”
River nodded. “Do you remember my baby who died during childbirth?”
“Yes, I do,” Scott replied.
“He’s not dead, River stated firmly. “In fact, he’s living with Noah”
Scott was taken aback. “Are you sure?
River then explained the whole situation to Scott, leaving him deeply confused.
“It could be Daniella.” Scott sighed. “Do you think we should get a psychologist for Axel?‘
River nodded, acknowledging her responsibility as a mother for how he turned out. She expressed her desire for him to be physically and mentally healthy.
Scott offered, “I can try if you don’t mind I have a certificate in children’s psychology.”
River looked at him, surprised. “You do? I didn’t know, given that you’re a surgeon.” Scott chuckled and said, “I forgot to mention it earlier.”
River was stunned. “You did this for the children?”
“Yes.” Scott did not deny it. “Since you won’t let me share the stress of your life, I can only help out more with the children.”
River’s heart felt warm and content. While her feelings for Scott weren’t strong, he seemed like the best choice to be her husband and the father of her children
River said sincerely, “Thank you ”
Scott chuckled “You know I don’t like you saying thank you‘ because it’ll make us seem like strangers. In addition, I’m doing this voluntarily.”
Scott took a sip of juice. “When is Axel coming?”
“Tomorrow. River said, “Tll bring him over.”
Scott paused for a moment before he said, “T’ll go. It would be best for you not to go to Villa Rosa now.
River shook her head. “I want to keep my promise to the child. Moreover, the child doesn’t know you, so I’m worried he might resist you
Scott relented. “I shall come over earlier tomorrow, then.”
“Sure.”
River wore her shades and headed out to pick up Axel on Saturday morning.
As soon as River drove out of the residential area, Julian followed her while maintaining a distance. He trailed her to Villa Rose. When he saw Axel getting into her car, he took a photo using his phone and sent it to Noah.
River assisted Axel in fastening his seatbelt before driving back to Bayview Villa. Trying to calm Axel, she asked, “Does your father know you’re out, Axel?”
“The nanny and the servant won’t tell,” Axel replied.
He had always been good at paying for people’s silence.
River kept quiet for a short while before she said, “Axel, are you not fond of meeting strangers?”
Axel clutched his shirt tightly. “I can do it if the stranger is Mommy’s friend”
