River was too troubled to argue, so she nodded and headed toward the car.

River turned and saw Noah and Alex’s cars. Why are they following me? she wondered.

River clarified, “That’s the child’s father, not the police!”

“Fine, or else I’ll start cutting the rope, Wayne threatened.

River quickly looked up. She spotted a small figure swaying in the wind, tied to the tallest crane at the harbor. It dangled several tens of meters above the solid ground below!

At that critical moment, she wanted to be honest. She wanted her child to be safe and alive. She was willing to do whatever it took to ensure his safety, even if it meant losing custody.

For a fleeting moment, Noah believed Tyler might be his son due to River’s performance. Yet, the memory of the DNA report shattered that belief.

She turned around and watched River’s car closely.

Alex heaved a sigh, approached, and said, “Noah, it didn’t seem like she was acting earlier.

Noah’s cold expression fixated on the small figure suspended in the air. He tutted and remarked, “I don’t think the things I’ve verified would be fake.”

River left the car key on the table inside the low–rise building. She then transferred two million dollars to Wayne’s account.

After finishing these tasks, River hurriedly called Wayne.

“I received the money. Clear out from here. I’m leaving first!” Wayne instructed

Concerned, River asked, “And my son?”

“Save him once I’m gone,” Wayne replied, his tone annoyed.

River couldn’t bring herself to say more. She turned, following Wayne’s instructions, and left the building.

A few minutes later, she saw Wayne entering it..

Later, he emerged from the building, ready to leave. He opened the car door.

As Wayne prepared to get into the car, River’s heart raced as the sound of police sirens reached her ears

He pulled out a remote control from his pocket.

Paige and Liora’s screams in the distance interrupted River.

River looked at the tiny figure falling at full speed, and her pupils constricted in shock.

“No! Don’t!”

The tiny figure crashed heavily to the ground, splattering blood everywhere.

River’s ears hummed loudly in shock, rendering her unable to hear anything.

Looking at the blood, River felt as if energy was drained from her body, and she dropped to her.knees

“This isn’t how it’s supposed to be River muttered, her gaze blank.

She crawled forward until she spotted Tyler. He was lying in an odd position in a pool of blood, still dressed in his clothes from this morning.

River fainted.

“Mommy, why do you walk so slowly?”

A childish yet familiar voice echoed in the darkness..

River looked for the source of the voice and found Tyler looking at her, carrying his backpack.

“What are you looking at, Mommy? Let’s go. Axel and Liora are waiting for me.”

Tyler’s urging sounded very real.

River took a long time to recover from her surprise and looked at her son incredulously. “Ty?” Tyler cocked his head in puzzlement. “What’s going on with you, Mommy?”
