They went to a bathroom where Shiloh helped her conceal the f*inger marks on her cheek. “I can’t do anything about the swelling,” she sighed sadly.
Lia looked at her and then suddenly hugged her t*ightly. “Thanks for being with me, Shiloh. No one had put up for me. But I am scared for you. Will they come back at you?”
Shiloh stroked her back gently. “They won’t. If they do, I will spray this pepper spray on them!” She showed a pepper spray can to her, removing herself. She put it in her h*and. “If they come back at you again, spray it on them.”
Lia’s eyes became wide with surprise and she laughed. “Are you sure?”
Shiloh jutted her chin up. “I am very sure.”
Lia liked the idea. She took the pepper spray can and stashed it in her satchel.
“Come, let’s go to class. I have a math class,” Shiloh lamented. “Hey, I can help you with it!”
“Really?” They came out of the bathroom.
“Yes,” Lia said proudly walking down the quiet alley.
“Okay then!” Shiloh said excitedly. “In the evening, after dinner, I will come to your room.”
After dropping Lia in front of the next class, Shiloh rushed to hers. Lia entered the class only to notice that Gwen and Tabatha were sitting next to Arthur and Hawk, glaring at her. She shoved down the jealousy that reared in her head. When her gazes met with that of the twins, she could sense their anger. She was sure that their girlfriends must have fed them with lies. She let out a rough exhale and made her way in the opposite direction. She sat next to a boy with glasses with a mop of dark curly hair.
Surprised, that a beautiful girl had come to sit next to him, he moved to the side with a smile. “Hi!” he said, blushing. “I am Robert.”
“Lia.” She settled on the chair, mocking a smile at him. However, the moment she sat, a loud growl made her jump. Everyone in the class fell silent. She turned her head and saw Hawk storming in her direction. She paled as she remained rooted to her chair.
He came to stand right in front of her. “Where were you in the last hour?” He gave a murderous glance to Robert who winced and seemed to shrink. His eyes searched her face as if he was finding what was wrong with it and they settled on her swollen l*ips.
Lia blinked her eyes once, then twice, unable to speak anything in front of him. He was so intimidating. “Hawk!” Arthur called his brother. “Come back!”
Hawk’s c*hest was rising and falling as if he would explode any moment. Lia narrowed her eyes on him. She leaned back very patiently and said, “It is none of your business. Stay away from me now and forever.” She should have stopped but she didn’t know where this came from. “You have girlfriends to tend to.” She felt like slapping her m*outh with her h*ands but remained nonchalant.
“Hawk!” Arthur called him again.
The teacher came to the class. He growled, “Can you please take your seat, Mr. Hawk?”
“Come back,” Arthur hissed.
“We have to talk!” Hawk said, giving her a withering look and returned to his place. However, for the rest of the class, Lia ignored them but she could feel that the brothers were looking at her. She thought of giving in to the temptation of turning and looking back at them, but curbed her stupid thoughts immediately. As soon as the class was over, she picked up her books and her satchel and rushed out.
For the last two classes, Lia didn’t see either of them and was happy in Robert’s company. He tried to talk to her about the twins but she refused to give the details.
In the evening, Shawn came to pick up his daughters. “What the hell happened to your l*ips?” he asked, cupping Lia’s cheeks.
“It’s nothing Daddy,” she chuckled. “I tripped over a staircase.”
A crease formed on his forehead. Without looking at Shiloh, he asked her, “Is that true?”
“We need more pepper spray cans, Daddy!” Shiloh answered and jumped in the car.
Shawn started the car as Lia sat in the rear seat while Shiloh in the passenger. From the rear-view mirror, he saw Lia and narrowed his eyes. All at once, he paled. “Did someone hit you, Lia?” he growled.
Lia bit her bottom l*ip and looked away. “No…” she lied.
Shiloh pursed her l*ips and turned her face to look outside.
“Young lady,” Shawn gritted. “Don’t you lie to your Daddy!”
Lia lowered her head and fidgeted in her lap. “It’s nothing I can’t deal with,” she replied in a low voice. “You better tell me what is going on!” He sounded like he was about to blast.
“Daddy,” Lia said in a soft voice. “There is nothing to say. Shiloh and I handled it well.” Shiloh whimpered softly.
Shawn wanted to delve further, but he didn’t because the way Lia said that she dealt with it all along with Shiloh, made him feel that Lia was slowly accepting them in her life. “This is not over;’ he growled and sped the car home. Lia rushed to her room and washed her face. The f*ingerprints had become blue. It was still stinging a lot so she covered her face with her hair and sneaked to Shiloh’s room. “I need more makeup,” she said in a low voice.
“Lia,” Shiloh sighed. “You must let daddy and mommy know about it. They will talk to the owners and fix the problem. They are very close to Uncle Hunter and Aunt River.
“No,” she shook her head. “There is no point in disturbing a beehive. This is going to get over in a few days. Moreover, I don’t want daddy to be more disturbed than he is because of me” Lia was sure that if she complained, they would send her back or maybe put her in a boarding school. And she wanted to stay with him. She felt safe and loved. She had started liking Lena also. She was always extremely supportive of her father.
“I just hate those two b*itches!” Shiloh grunted. She got makeup for Lia and concealed her blue marks considerably. Lia covered her cheek with her hair before heading for dinner.
Lena was a great cook. Even though her father could afford a chef, Lena insisted that she cook for the family. The food smelled delicious. There was carved turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, ham and bread rolls. She took a hefty helping of turkey and ate it heartily. “Gods, you are the best cook!” She complimented Lena.
