She was spent by the time they finished. P*anting and sweating, she lay on her bed, wondering what was going on with her. Arthur turned her towards him and curled his arm around her waist as Hawk spooned her. Arthur whispered in her ear, “You are ours, baby girl. Don’t you dare to make us jealous again.”
Jealous? They were jealous? “You were supposed to be with Gwen,” she murmured, loving how she was tucked between their warm bodies. She couldn’t help but feel their e*rections on her belly and her back. “Sleep, baby girl,” Hawk’s soft voice fell on her ears.
“How will this work?” she muttered, snuggling in Arthur’s c*hest. “This will never work.” What was she going to tell the society and what about their girlfriends? This was surely going to be a mess.
Arthur put his l*eg on her t*high and k*issed her head. “Everything will be fine. Sleep love.”
She closed her eyes and she thought she dreamt of Hawk saying, “We waited for you for so long. We missed you.”
Lia woke up in the morning feeling all kinds of refreshed. The bed on both her sides was empty and cold, mimicking her heart. She got up, stabbing her f*ingers in her hair when she remembered the incident of the previous night. She made a resolution that she was going to stop this stupidity before it spills over and makes her life a complete mess.
She was going to categorically avoid the twins. Everything about this relationship was wrong. Arthur and Hawk had girlfriends. And she felt like she was the third wheel in their relationship. If Gwen and Tabatha came to know about it, they would bully her again. Moreover, she refused to be just any girl they would have fun with while they had steady girlfriends. “No!” she said aloud. “Enough is enough!”
“What are you thinking about?” Lena asked, seeing Lia who was not participating in the conversation over the breakfast.
“Oh nothing!” she blushed and filled her m*outh with more noodles.
“Mom,” Shiloh chirped. “Lia’s eighteenth birthday is coming in a few days. What are we going to do?”
“That…” Lena pursed her l*ips and gave a side glance to Shawn.
Lia found it extremely awkward and thought that Lena didn’t want to celebrate her birthday. She felt bad about it, but she gathered herself instantly. After all, Natalie never celebrated her birthday. It was just like any other day when she had to go around finding food to fill her stomach rather than celebrate it. “We don’t have to celebrate!” She looked from Lena to her father. “It’s fine. Really.” She didn’t want to upset Lena because she had come to like her a lot. A birthday was nothing in front of her newly found family.
Shawn narrowed his eyes on her as Shiloh gasped as if this was the most ludicrous idea ever. “What the hell do you mean?”
Lia shifted in her place. “Really, it’s fine…”
Lena understood her predicament. “Lia,” she said. “We want to celebrate your birthday in our own way. Shawn and I have already thought of a venue and we had gone ahead with preparations but-”
Lia’s m*outh dropped to the floor. She was surprised that her parents were even thinking of celebrating it, let alone preparing for it. “But?” she asked, her eyes wide with wonder.
Lena sighed. “Your Aunt River and Uncle Hunter want us to celebrate your birthday at their home!”
“Oh!” Lia was now super confused. “Why?”
Lena shrugged. “River and Hunter want to meet you. They were pretty busy and couldn’t meet you earlier. When they came to know that it’s your birthday over the weekend, they insist that your birthday is celebrated in their home. However, you daddy doesn’t like the idea!”
Lia was utterly surprised. She didn’t know that the two families were so close. A pale blush rose on her cheeks. She had never felt this important or wanted. Coming back to her father was the best decision she had ever taken. Blinking away the tears, she said, “I will be happy if you cut a cake in the house. In fact, a pastry would do.”
“Oh Lia!” Shiloh got up and hugged her sister from behind. She k*issed her on her head as tears slipped out of her eyes.
“Come here baby,” Shawn called her. When she went to him along with Shiloh, he sat her on his one t*high and Shiloh on the other. He k*issed her on her cheek. “You have to forget what happened to you in the past. Delving in the past will only bring back miserable memories. Look ahead into your future because that is what is important. We are all your family and will always stand by your side, no matter what.”
Lia’s t*hroat choked as she curled her arms around her father’s n*eck and buried her face in his n*eck. This was the first intimate gesture with her father and for reasons, she felt her fear of getting intimate with people vanishing. “Yes daddy…” Shiloh hugged both of them and Lena came from behind to embrace her family. “So what would you want, Lia?” Lena asked in the end when they picked up the bags for school.
Lia giggled. She really didn’t know the dynamics between her parents and River and Hunter. “Whatever Shiloh says, I will go by it!”
“Yayyy!” Shiloh cheered as she lunged at Lia and hugged her t*ightly. “You are the best!”
When Shawn dropped the girls at school, he said, “I will be buying a new car for you Lia. I hope you know how to drive.”
Lia grinned. “I don’t!”
Shawn gave her a pointed glare. “Okay, I will be buying the new car and teaching you how to drive in it.” As soon as Shawn drove out of the parking lot, Lia’s eyes fell on the black SUV that screeched to a halt a few meters away. Hawk stepped out of it from the passenger seat while Arthur from the driver seat. Both of them stared at her and Lia’s cheeks heated. She grabbed Shiloh’s h*and and pulled her to the school. She had to avoid them.
Hawk and Arthur followed them with their large strides.
“I will be super busy today!” Shiloh cried. “Let’s meet at the cafeteria?”
“Sure!” Lia waved her a bye and hurried to her class. She was sure that the twins were following her. When she entered the class, she was met with harsh glares from Gwen and Tabatha. She averted their glares and went to sit next to Robert at her usual place. The twins went to sit with them. Since the teacher hadn’t arrived, Gwen said, “We had a great time last night Arthur. Where did you go afterwards? I hoped you had stayed. We could have done so much more.” Gwen spoke it out aloud so that Lia could listen to her.
Lia lowered her head and focused on the assignment that she had to submit. She could feel the heat rising up her face. At the same time, she felt disgusted by the twins. They spent their night with Gwen and Tabatha and then came to her. Lia felt… used like a toy. She clenched her teeth t*ight to stop the rage that was slowly threatening to consume her.
“We went for an adventure,” Arthur replied with a smirk as Hawk let out a laugh.
When the teacher, Mr. Potters, came in, he collected their assignments. “I will be checking them in the class,” he announced. “All of you go to Act 2, Scene 3.1 need a summary of that.”
As students got busy with it, Mr. Potters got busy with checking the assignment. It was at the end of the two hours class that he announced the results. He chuckled as he slid his glasses on his head. He picked up an assignment sheet. “You know Arthur and Hawk had always been topping the class ever since they joined the school. There’s no student who is able to beat them and usually the competition is between the twins.” The twins had a condescending smile on their faces.
However, this time-” Potters waved the sheets in his h*and. “Someone has beaten them.”
