When Alex asked the question, a young, good–looking man approached them.
Paige brushed off Alex’s question, standing up with a spark in her eyes. “Why’re you here? What a surprise! Join me for a drink!”
Paige warmly invited him to join her drinking party with Alex
Alex’s expression changed
Spotting Alex, Pixie asked loudly, “Who’s he?”
Quickly, Paige replied, “Oh, just an older guy. Pay no mind. He can’t handle his drink and isn’t much help.”
Alex’s lips twitched. Why did she think he was old and could not drink?
He just did not want to bully her.
Moments ago, she had greeted a guy, and now she was cozying up to another for drinks
Wasn’t he sufficient company?
Somewhat annoyed, Alex picked up a wine bottle from the table and filled his glass. He looked at Paige and said, “Paige.”
Turning, Paige asked, “What’s up?”
“You want to drink, right?” Alex clinked his glass with hers. “Let’s see who gets tipsy first.”
River returned to Bayview Villa and tucked her children into bed before returning to her room.
It was 9:00 pm, so she called Axel.
At that moment, Axel was sitting on the living room carpet, feeling nervous. He didn’t understand why Noah had suddenly brought out a puzzle to play with him.
Playing with Noah was fine, but Noah seemed really tense like he had some sort of conflict with someone. This tension was affecting Axel’s concentration on the puzzle.
Just as Axel was about to fit a puzzle piece, his phone buzzed in his pocket. The living room was so quiet that the vibration was quite noticeable.
Axel’s heart raced. He knew it wouldn’t be a stranger calling him. Tyler never called–he only texted. Thus, the caller must be River.
Noah paused at the vibration, realizing it wasn’t his phone. He turned his attention to Axel.
“Who’s calling you this late, Axel?” Noah asked with suspicion.
Nervously, Axel set the puzzle piece down and retrieved his phone.
Upon seeing the caller ID, Noah’s brow furrowed. It displayed Mommy‘.
Axel hesitated to answer, glancing timidly at Noah
Noah’s voice was cold as he commanded, “Answer it on speaker.”
He was curious about what River wanted to say to their son.
Axel answered the call with a mix of anxiety and switched to speaker mode.
“Mommy
“Hmm, yeah. I’m going to bed,” Axel lied with shame.
It was the first time he lied to her.
“I’m sorry that I disturbed you. Did you remember to have some milk?” River asked again.
Axel answered, “I haven’t drunk it yet. Ms. Garcia will get it for me later.”
“Ah, by the way, did your father ask you any questions lately?” River asked with worry.
Axel understood what she meant and was about to interrupt her when he noticed Noah abruptly lifting his phone before him.
A line of words appeared on the screen: [Ask her what questions she’s talking about.]
Axel clenched his phone nervously because of Noah’s sharp gaze. “What kind of questions?”
“It’s about Ty and Lia.” River wondered why Axel was a bit slow today.
His voice was low, and he did not talk to her excitedly like he always did
Axel’s heart skipped a beat. “No, Mommy.”
River said, “That’s great. This is our secret. I believe that you can help me keep it.”
After that, Noah raised his phone before Axel again.
Axel’s face changed when he saw the words on it. He asked with a shaky voice, “Mom… Mommy, when are you going to tell Daddy about Ty and Lia’s backgrounds…”
River frowned anxiously, thinking. There is something wrong with Axel’s emotions. Besides, he asked more questions than their previous calls.
River soon thought of Noah
It was very likely that he was beside Axel
River tried to keep calm and answered, “Axel, Ty and Lia are your siblings even if you guys don’t share the same father.”
Axel abruptly heaved a sigh of relief. Luckily, River discerned something wrong.
Axel said, “Understood, Mommy.”
River said, “Dear, I’m hanging up.”
“Okay, Mommy, Good night.”
After setting aside the phone, Axel prepared for Noah’s interrogation.
However, to his surprise, Noah didn’t ask Axel anything. He also didn’t scold Axel for secretly staying in contact with River.
Axel discreetly observed Noah and noticed that Noah’s expression seemed stormier than earlier.
Three days later, Daniella was awakened by a call at Xander Residence.
She angrily answered the call. “Who’s calling so early?”
The caller replied, “Ms. Love, I’ve got some leads on what you asked.”
Hearing the voice, Danièlla remembered.
She had requested help from a former colleague at MK’s tech department to learn about Noah’s search for someone.
Daniella sat up energetically. “Tell me.”
“Mr. De Marco is seeking a woman. Seems they’re close. I’ll send her photo soon. And about the money…
“I’ll pay, but keep digging. Find out her connection with Noah.”
“Ms. Love, it’s tough. We’re limited to comparing photos. No other leads so far.”
Daniella clicked her tongue. “Fine. Send the photo and your account number.
“Sure. Thank you, Ms. Love.”
After ending the call, Daniella quickly received a photo.
The photo left her in shock. The woman in it felt extremely familiar. She was sure she had seen her somewhere before.
As she thought it over, a memory suddenly surged
Yes! She had glimpsed this same woman’s photo in Noah’s drawer.
If River hadn’t intervened, Daniella might have taken it out and examined it.
Afterward, there was a fallout between Noah and River due to that incident.
Daniella stared at the photo. The woman’s age was difficult to pin down. She wasn’t young, yet far from old due to her undeniable charm.
Who was she in relation to Noah?
Judging by her looks and age, Noah wouldn’t have fallen for her.
Could they be family?
The realization prompted Daniella to leave her bed. She hurriedly headed to Grayson’s room after exiting her own.
She stood at the door and knocked. “Grandpa, are you awake?”
Grayson’s voice came from within the room. “Ella? Come in if you need anything.”
Daniella opened the door and walked to Grayson with the phone. He was still sitting in bed is woman?”
She then pointed at the woman in the photo and asked, “Grandpa, do you know this
Grayson took the phone and squinted as he examined it closely. However, just one glance sent him into contemplation. “She seems somewhat familiar, but I can’t remember where I saw her.”
Daniella said, “It’s someone related to Noah. I saw her photo in a drawer in Noah’s study before.”
“Oh.” Grayson looked at it again before he shook his head with regret “Ella, I can’t recall who she is
Daniella became slightly anxious “Grandpa, can you take a closer look? Is it Noah’s relative or someone else?”
“Yes, he’s looking for someone. Why are you anxious, too?”
Grayson stopped looking at the photo and returned the phone to Daniella.
Daniella answered, “I care about him, so I’m anxious for him.”
Grayson said, “I don’t want you to meddle in his affairs again. Go out. I want to rest for a little longer.”
Daniella became frustrated.
“Since this old man can’t remember anything, why did he fucking say he finds her familiar? I was excited for nothing!
‘Well, old people are unreliable. I have to rely on myself.”
At Bayview Villa,
River was about to give the children a ride to the kindergarten when Jamie blocked her.
“Don’t go.”
