Eustace was now the biggest shareholder of Parrington Hospital, and he had already notified the hospital. So, when Danika rushed to the hospital, nurses were already waiting at the entrance. Even the chairman was there, proving that the old man was not someone to be taken lightly.
However, Danika was in no mood to think of this. She got out of the ambulance and asked, “Is the operating room prepared?”
“Yes, it is,” someone answered.
She nodded in satisfaction and said to the paramedics on the ambulance, “Send him straight into the emergency ward. Prepare for surgery.”
Done speaking, she walked toward the operating room. When she walked past the chairman, he grabbed her hand and said, “How is it? Is it going to work?”
Although he knew of Danika’s capabilities, the old man was just too important for him not to worry.
“Relax. I’ll do my best.” She didn’t linger and went straight to the operating room, preparing for the surgery.
At the same time, a young man held a glass of red wine in a private jet at Bardoff Airport. He typed leisurely on his laptop with his right hand. A detailed sheet of someone’s particulars quickly came into view.
“Master, the plane will be ready to fly in five minutes.” His butler walked over, speaking softly.
The young man nodded and shut off his laptop. “Okay.”
“Master, I honestly can’t understand why you would consent to Mr. Spade’s surgery being performed by that doctor at Parrington Hospital. Especially craniotomy,” the butler blurted out. He was worried.
The young man leaned against the leather seat and locked out the window. He said calmly, “What are we supposed to do? Watch him die?”
“We could contact the best doctors in Bardoff…”
“Didn’t you hear the doctor telling us about the urgency?” The young man looked at his butler with an icy glare in his dark irises.
The butler felt a chill on his back, but he forced out, “Who knows if she said that on purpose.”
“That’s enough!” The young man’s voice was harsh. He narrowed his eyes. “I trust her.”
The butler was astonished. This was the first time that the master trusted someone else.
In Parrington Hospital, several people waited in front of the operating room. Besides Eustace, some people had come simply because it was Mr. Spade in the room.
When Danika walked out of the room, she was stunned by the flock of people before her. What were they .doing here?
“Are you alright?” Eustace asked. His eyes were full of worry.
Danika nodded. “We managed to save him. He is no longer in danger, so you can rest easy.”
“I’m asking about you,” he said, his gaze resting on her
She was stunned, but she got back to her senses quickly. “I’m fine.”
“Great.” Eustace retracted his gaze, nodding.
A group of people surrounded Danika, fervently asking about Mr. Spade’s condition. She felt a little overwhelmed.
“Master!”
The bodyguard noticed his master’s arrival and hurriedly rushed over. “You’re quick. The surgery is just completed. Mr. Spade is not in danger.”
The young man nodded, devoid of emotion.
He went toward Danika and smiled. “Dr. Zellweger? Thank you for your help.”
“No need to be polite. Saving patients is my job.” Danika looked at this young man, whose looks could be compared to Eustace’s. She seemed to be seeing plenty of handsome men lately.
“That’s true, but I’m still thankful that you have saved his life.” He added, “I’m Christopher Spade. The man in there is my father.”
*Danika.” She had a good impression of him. On top of that, the surgery was successful. She was in a relaxed state.
“Miss Danika, would you mind telling me about my father’s condition in detail?” Christopher asked a little embarrassedly.
Danika nodded and beckoned for him to follow her. “Yes. Follow me to the office.”
As a doctor, it was her duty to explain a patient’s situation to their family. They walked toward the office, ignoring Eustace completely.
It was only after a few steps that Danika felt something amiss.
Where was Eustace?
She turned back, but he was nowhere in sight. When had he gone? Why hadn’t she realized?
“Miss Danika?” Christopher was puzzled when she stopped. He didn’t know what she was looking for.
She came back to her senses and shook her head. “It’s nothing. Let’s go.”
Outside the hospital, Eustace opened the door and sat down. “Go to the Old Mansion.”
“Mr. Quincey, is Mr. Spade okay? Was the surgery successful?” Vincent started up the car.
Eustace murmured in response. He was not in a good mood.
As his assistant, Vincent noticed at once. He remembered that the person in charge of the surgery was Danika. He suspected that Eustace’s bad mood was due to being unable to be rid of her.
Hesitation flashed in his eyes, but he finally spoke. “Mr. Quincey, have you… really fallen in love with Dr.
Zellweger?”
He wasn’t deliberately rubbing it in. He merely felt that this sequence of events was simply too comedic to be true.
Eustace made no reply to the question, merely looking up at Vincent. “Do you have an opinion about this?”
“No, I don’t.” Vincent shook his head hurriedly. His heart thumped in fear. “It’s just that you had been married to her for two years and had never shown any interest in her. Now that you haven’t been divorced for long…”
He trailed off. He dared not finish his words. He could feel the icy aura emanating from Mr. Quincey.
“I’d never seen her, so it’s normal for me to not know her. But what about you, my assistant? You didn’t know her, either!” he said coldly. If Vincent could recognize Danika from the start, he and Danika would not have had so many miscommunications.
Vincent was a little exasperated. He had suggested going to see what Danika might need in Quincey Mansion, but Eustace had denied the trip, saying there was no need. That was why Vincent did not have the chance to meet Danika. But, of course, he could only swallow his words. How could he say them out loud?
“I was bad at my management,” he said exasperatedly. He knew Mr. Quincey was angry, so he didn’t take it to heart.
Eustace wasn’t really blaming it on Vincent, either. He hadn’t allowed him to ask about Danika. Eustace had never treated her seriously as his wife. Who would have thought that a day like this would come?
Eustace brooded in silence, and Vincent couldn’t hold it in any longer. “Mr. Quincey, If you really like Dr. Zellweger, you have to understand how she feels about you.”
“What do you mean?” Eustace frowned.
“If any woman were ignored by you for two years, only to have you admit your feelings for her now, shel wouldn’t be able to accept it. So I think that Dr. Zellweger’s bad attitude toward you is understandable.” He tried comforting Eustace.
Eustace’s eyebrows were tightly knitted. Vincent continued. “You’re not just a stranger to her. You’re a stranger who wasted two years of her youth.”
Vincent was dishing out the truth. Eustace thought it made sense. His anger at having been ignored by Danika gradually dissipated.
He smirked. ‘Is that so? Well, what should I do, according to you?”
“Nothing much. Time will tell,” Vincent said.
“Speak in a language that I understand!”
