Lia continued to teach her and by the end of two hours, she was completely exhausted. Arthur had come down and was studying along with them. He had crossed his l*egs over the table as he studied with intense concentration.
Uncomfortable in Maggie’s presence, Hawk got up with his books and went to the kitchen where he spread his book on the island table. He didn’t like what Maggie was about to say. Unsure whether he should mention this to Lia or not, he decided to keep it to himself for a while. It was possible that Maggie wanted to say something else while he was thinking something else. He focused on his studies but Maggie came to the kitchen once in a while on one or the other pretext. She would steal a glance at him, offer him a glass of water, smile mysteriously and sometimes even stand close to him on the pretext of what he was reading.
“Oh, I love this author she said to him. “He really explains organizational behavior very nicely with examples.” Hawk stiffened. He pursed his l*ips and didn’t lift his eyes to look at her.
She continued, “I know of one more author who writes book like him, but his books are-”
“Lia is waiting for you,” Hawk cut her off curtly, scowling at her.
She winced. “Y-yes!” She hurried out of the kitchen.
Soon there was another knock. Arthur opened the door to find the delivery boy with pizza and chow-mein packets. “Food is here!” he announced and took the packets to the kitchen, where along with Hawk he unpacked them all. “You girls should come here!” he called them. “It’s a lot.”
“Yes, I am famished!” Lia said with a smile. “We can resume this tomorrow. Please have your dinner with us tonight.”
“Sure,” Maggie replied with a grin. “Thank you so much for helping me out.”
Lia wanted to say ‘my p*leasure’ but she couldn’t. In her opinion Maggie shouldn’t have taken business administration as a subject. It was clear that she was not able to follow even the basic rules. Lia was surprised how she managed to pass the first-year exams.
Arthur sat next to Hawk while Maggie near Lia. “How did it go?” he asked, giving Lia a big slice with the toppings including sausage, pepperoni, onion, mushrooms and green peppers placed below tomato sauce. “It went well,” Lia gave him a t*ight-lipped smile and bit into her pizza.
Maggie took a good helping of chow-mein. She lifted her eyelashes to steal a glance at Hawk who was sitting opposite to her, but found him absorbed in eating. He picked up a paper basket and held it out to Lia. “Why aren’t you eating this?” he said. “This is kung pao chicken. And this particular restaurant makes the best one out here.” He served her with a generous helping of it.
“Ummm…” she protested. “I already have to eat this pizza.”
“You better eat this as well,” Hawk ordered her.
“Actually he is right,” Maggie added with a soft smile. “Can I also have a little?” She gave Hawk a flirty look.
Hawk exhaled his anger quietly and instead of serving her, he placed the packet in front of her. “Help yourself,” he grunted.
Maggie bit her l*ip as jealousy blasted in her. She took out the chicken for herself. “Is it okay if I come tomorrow at the same time, Lia? I hope it won’t be too much trouble?”
Lia gulped her food down, not knowing how to refuse her. “Okay,” she croaked.
“Thanks so much!” Maggie scrunched her nose up. “You don’t know how much this means to me. I know I am pretty dense in the head, but with your guidance, I will be able to get at least a D+.”
Lia chuckled and then focused on eating the chicken. Meanwhile, Maggie removed her foot from her sneakers and bit by bit slid it to Hawk. She t*ouched his foot and his eyes snapped wide open. Immediately he retracted his foot, trying to tamper his anger down. Maggie blushed, but she didn’t stop. She went further ahead and this time placed her foot on his quite firmly.
Hawk wanted to jerk it off. Now his suspicions were confirmed about her. Stupid human! He thought to himself.
He had this urge to shove her food away, but if he did that, he was afraid that he might break her bone. So he just got up. “I am done!” He took the plate to the sink, deposited it there and rushed to the bedroom.
“Hey!” Lia called him. “It’s your turn to do the dishes!” But Hawk was out of the earshot. She heard him slamming the door. “What’s with him?” she asked Arthur, looking confused.
“Beats me!” Arthur shrugged.
“You must join me for lunch tomorrow,” Maggie said. “It will be on me.”
“What?” Lia was startled. “No, we are fine.”
“Please, you must,” Maggie pleaded. “I will be so happy. This is the least I can do for you.”
“No. Really,” Arthur said. “We are pretty packed tomorrow.”
Maggie lowered her face as her l*ips downturned. “I understand that. I am new and you guys don’t mingle much. I am sorry to make you feel so uncomfortable.”
Lia’s jaw dropped. She didn’t know how to handle someone who felt miserable for rejecting their invite. She l*icked her l*ips and looked at Arthur for support, but even he was confused. “It’s not that,” Lia tried to explain. “But we are really very busy.”
“I understand,” Maggie sighed. She twirled the fork in her food.
Feeling a thousand shades bad for her, Lia said, “Okay, we will come, but just for fifteen minutes.” Maggie bounced back. She grinned. “Ohhh! Thank you. I will wait for you all at the college cafeteria.” As soon as she left, Lia stabbed her f*ingers in her hair. “She is strange,” she remarked. “Or maybe I am strange.” Arthur came to k*iss her. “You aren’t strange, baby girl. She is nosy.”
Lia giggled. “Why did Hawk leave so early?”
“I have no idea,” Arthur said. He picked her up and took her to the bedroom after they did the dishes. Hawk was already sleeping. Lia slipped beside him after changing and Arthur went for a bath. She curled in his c*hest and instinctively, he pulled her over his c*hest. When Arthur came back, his l*ips curled up seeing her snugly fitted over him. He slipped beside them and went off to sleep.
Next day in the morning, when Lia got up, she found Arthur speaking to Hunter. Hawk was already gone. “Is that so urgent?” Arthur asked. “Okay…” He scratched his forehead. “How about next week.?” He waited for Hunter to finish the conversation. “In that case, I will come.” More conversation. He sighed. “I will inform them.” He disconnected the call and looked at her. “Father wants all of us to be there by Sunday. Alpha Brom has raised a storm over there to split the Dark Moon pack. And he has gathered support of some Elders of the former Crescent pack.”
