Brom gritted his teeth and sat down.
“I am leaving!” Maggie said. “This is the strangest accusation I have ever come across.”
“Shut up, Maggie!” Hawk snarled. “You approached us in the college only to see that your plans flowed smoothly.” Color from Maggie’s face drained. “That is insane!”
“You are insane,” Hawk retorted. “You are not even a business management student. In fact, you aren’t a student of that college. You went there for only a week.”
“Oh. My. God.” Lia sank in her chair as shock rippled through her. No wonder she was unable to teach her well. It was like hitting her head on a wall. And no wonder Maggie seemed totally lost when she was teaching her. Hawk continued, “Maggie befriended Lia in order to get close to me. She flirted with me and even asked me if she could be my girlfriend. I thought that she was just another girl in the college and refused her. However, she wasn’t just another girl, she was the daughter of the Alpha of the Pine pack.” His muscles bulged again with fury. “F*uck!” Lia started trembling.
Hawk let out a rough exhale. “I suspected her and so went on to find out about her. I came to know that no student with the name of Maggie existed in any year of business management. So I followed her but couldn’t find anything. Two days back, she messaged me that she was attacked by a few boys. I forwarded the message to Arthur saying that I was going to see her. That was my window to investigate her. However, I didn’t know that she conned me. When I reached her house, she hit me at the back of the head with a hammer. I lost consciousness. Then she poured a strong drug down my t*hroat, hoping that I would be out for a few days and that would be enough for her to finish off this meeting.” He glared at Maggie. “But Maggie, you forgot. I am more powerful to be dosed by your usual drugs. I escaped as soon as the effect of the drug washed off and came straight after you. Arthur messaged me the location. You thought you were playing us. Well, no. Arthur and I were very much in t*ouch. We let you think that you played us.”
“Th-these a-all*egations are baseless!” Maggie stuttered as Arthur smirked. “You don’t have any proof.” She started towards the door of the room, but Elijah got up and stopped her, watching Trig from the corner of his eyes. He masked his surprise when he noticed that Trig wasn’t interested in saving her.
Hawk walked to the table in between his parents and thumped his h*ands on it. “When I was unconscious, you came here to see the progress of the meeting. You are a mentally sick girl, Maggie!”
“Shut up!” Alpha Brom roared.
“You shut up!” Hawk roared back. He took his phone out and tapped on some pictures. “These are the documents which show that she is under treatment. But she had stopped taking her drugs.” He slid his phone to Hunter who gave it to Elder Wyn. “These are fresh reports that were mailed to you by the doctor yesterday evening after you had left.” He scowled at Brom. “Your daughter suffers from bipolar disorder. She needs to be treated, not used. You used her for your personal interest.”
“Don’t step over your limits, Hawk!” Brom snarled, clenching his fists. “I am not the kind who will use their pups for their own advantage!”
Hawk mocked the laughter. “Then why don’t you have anyone to help her in the human world? Why is she alone? Why haven’t you sent her mother to be with her? You wouldn’t have listened to her ridiculous plan if you were interested in getting her treated. Which father in their right mind would agree to such a pathetic plan? While I am not pointing out the clause in our treaty, I am pointing out the fact that you even thought that I would reject Lia and marry Maggie. Have you gone insane? Lia carries my mark. We have married her in the temple. There is nothing that can separate me from her. Even if the Moon Goddess came here and asked me to be away from Lia, I would prefer to die than to stay away from her!” His c*hest rose and fell as he glared h*ard at Brom. “But how would you know? Your wife isn’t your mate!”
“Hawk, stop it!” Brom roared.
He put his h*ands up to stop him. “Maggie was obsessed with me because she wanted to become Luna of the most powerful pack. Unfortunately for her, Lia would be its Luna. So she came up with the plan and told you to do something about it. You should have stopped her, but you didn’t, because it suited you. If our packs split, you thought you would have a chance to marry her with me because a pack always needs a Luna. You thought that Lia would never be able to juggle between two packs, you would push Maggie as an alternative. But Alpha Brom-” he s*ucked in a sharp breath. “Lia is stronger than you think. If need be, she can be the queen of all the packs!”
All of a sudden, a movement occurred. “He is MINE!” Maggie shouted and lunged at Lia, jumping over the table, shifting midair.
“Maggieee!” Brom yelled. But it was too late. She was already in front of Lia. She peeled her l*ips back, showing her sharp fangs.
Angered as hell at her, Lia got up from her place. She waited for Maggie to come closer to her. Hawk and Arthur shifted into their Lycans immediately and were about to attack Maggie when a l*eg swung and hit her snout so sharply that the wolf yelped as blood sprayed from her snout. She fell on the floor, skidding a little. Before she could get up, Hawk and Arthur took over. Hawk lifted her up and hurled her across the room so harshly that the wall splintered on impact. She fell on the floor, unconscious. Arthur rushed towards her to shred her into pieces when Brom came in front of him and knelt on the ground with his h*ands clasped in front of him. “Please Arthur!” he rasped, looking like a ghost. “She is not well. Let me take her from here. Please.”
But Titan demanded blood as Bolt came to stand beside him.
The Elders shouted, “Control them!”
Even as the family called them, Lia stood with her arms crossed across her c*hest. In a low and lethal voice she said, “Throw her out.”
Titan shoved Alpha Brom to the side with ease. He lifted Maggie and tossed her out of the window like garbage. The window shattered into a thousand pieces as Maggie crashed on the ground outside. “Noooo!” Alpha Brom rushed after his daughter.
Bolt followed him, his l*ips peeled back, his c*hest vibrating with a snarl. In a guttural, animalistic voice he said, “She tried to k*ill our mate? I will rip her limb by limb”
“No, no. Please Hawk!” Brom pleaded with him. “I will make sure that she doesn’t get near Lia in future.” Saying that he picked up Maggie in his arms and h*anded her to Trig. Trig rushed her out of there without looking back. Lia came out and stood between her mates as she stared coldly at Brom. “I think the meeting is over now,” she said.
Brom clenched his teeth. He was surprised that she could take over a wolf so easily. But he didn’t speak a word with her. Instead he went inside where the Elders were still standing shocked.
Titan and Bolt shifted back to their human forms as they followed Lia in. They went to stand beside their father and mother who looked proud of their sons. River grasped Lia’s h*and, pride swelling in her c*hest for how she tackled a wolf. This was the first time Lia had shown that she wasn’t just any petite girl, but she was a strong human.
“My stand remains the same!” Brom growled. “Their pack should be split and restored to original packs.”
“How vindictive,” Shawn rasped. “Maybe you should go and take care of your daughter,” he smirked. Elder Wyn shook his head as he sat down. All other Elders too sat down, uncomfortable about the whole incident. At last, after chatting in whispers and via mind-links with other Elders, Wyn spoke, “It is established that Alpha Brom brought this matter to the council for his personal interests. For this he will have to pay a penalty of five thousand dollars.”
“What? This is insane!” Brom shouted. “Where will I get that much money from?”
Wyn narrowed his eyes. “You should have read the entire treaty nicely, Alpha Brom. Some points have been updated over the years. Your daughter attacked a human who is a mate to two Alphas in the presence of Elders and that too in the council meeting. Do you know how many charges can be pressed against her by the laws of our land?”
Brom’s blood drained from the face. He stuttered, “B-but h-how- she is mentally sick.”
Wyn continued, “Let me relate the charges to you:
- Attacking a human without provocation or a reason will result in five years in dungeons and a hundred thousand dollars penalty.
- Attacking a Luna with the intention of k*illing her will result in two years in dungeons and a two hundred thousand dollars penalty.
- Attacking anyone in the presence of Elders in the council meeting room attracts a two hundred thousand dollars penalty and the Elders have the right to decide on the number of years of her imprisonment.
“What?” Brom sank in his chair, his knees getting wobbly.
