A month later, Lia was in her class when she received a message about going to the Dark Moon pack from Hawk. He showed her Shawn’s message on the phone.
“Your father is not well,” he whispered to her.
Lia snatched the phone from him and read the text multiple times. “What happened?” she asked with a choked voice.
He shrugged. “Probably just a fever or allergy. Talk to him after the class is over.”
The class took forever to end. She rushed out to the main garden where Arthur was waiting for them. She called Shawn, “Daddy!”
“Sweetheart,” he said, his voice hoarse. “I am fine…”
Lena shouted from behind, “He is not! He is over-exerting. And he is not taking any rest.”
“Daddy!” she growled at him. “If you won’t take care of yourself, I will come over to you, leaving my studies.”
“Oh God!” Shawn rasped. “You girls are too dramatic. I am fine.”
“No you are not!” Lena shot back. “And if he continues to behave like this, I am sending him to you, Lia!”
Lia stifled her laughter. “Well, I am ready. Send him to me mom or better still—I will come over to you.”
“Wonderful idea!” Lena agreed, taking the phone from Shawn. “Shiloh also misses you. She has started behaving weirdly these days.”
“Weirdly? Like how?” Lia was surprised. Shiloh was the coolest sister one could have.
“She used to go to the castle, but nowadays, she refuses to go there. Tina and Gina keep complaining.”
“Hmm…” Lia mused.
Hawk quipped, “I know why she is behaving weirdly.” Lia elbowed him.
“Anyway, I think you must come and talk to her. She doesn’t mingle with her friends at school and says that she wants to go to your college. She can’t wait to get out of the house.” Lena sniffled. “My nest will become empty.” Lia sighed. Every time she went home, Lena was super happy and every time she came back to the college, she would become teary. And her standard favorite line would be, “My nest will become empty soon.”
“By the way, when are you coming back, Lia?” Lena asked, still sniffling.
“That depends on daddy,” she said with a soft smile. “If he won’t take care of himself, I will come tomorrow.”
“Oh, don’t worry about the old man,” Lena drawled. “I will take care of him.”
Somehow Lia suspected that it was Lena who sent the message to Hawk to get Lia call Shawn and scold him. Mom and her antics. “I will call you guys in the evening. Have to rush for class!”
“Okay!” Lena said with irritation. “You never talk to me.”
Lia rolled her eyes. “Stop being so dramatic, mom!”
“I am not dramatic!” Lena whined. “I love you all so much and I am labeled dramatic!”
“Mom.” Lia scratched her head. “Can I go to the class?”
“Go!” she hmphed.
“I love you, mom,” Lia chuckled. She disconnected the call and rushed to the next class with Hawk after giving a chaste k*iss to Arthur.
Psychiatric Institution.
“Someone has come to meet you, Maggie,” said the nurse.
Maggie narrowed her eyes on her. She was moved to a high security room on the fifth floor. Her condition worsened and even though the doctor was giving her medication, little did they know that she was flushing them down the toilets. But she couldn’t do anything about the medication that they gave to suppress her wolf.
Her father and mother never ever visited her and so she was surprised. “Who has come?”
“A man called Harry,” she replied. “Do you know him? Do you want to meet him? Because if you don’t, I will ask him to leave.”
Maggie looked like a maniac when she shot a glare at the nurse. She hadn’t eaten for days, scared that her food was poisoned. “Give me my energy drink,” she said in a hoarse voice. “After that I will go and meet him.” The nurse let out a rough exhale. “Okay,” she said and closed the small window that was there in her door. As soon as she left, Maggie jumped on her bed, squatted and using a small spoon, she etched another line. “One month has passed Lia,” she hissed. “When I come out, I will k*ill you. You’ve destroyed me and my pack.” The nurse brought her the energy drink. Maggie had it immediately. “Now cross your arms across your c*hest,” the nurse said.
Maggie gritted her teeth, but she did as she was instructed. Two burly men came in. They put a robe on her and locked her arms in it. “She’s ready,” said one of them. The nurse nodded and Maggie stepped out of her room. This was the first time in many days.
She was taken to a small room where a glass separated her from her visitor. A guard pointed at a chair for her to sit at the far end, as he watched over all the patients. He opened her arms to free them. The girl had nails like claws.
When Maggie reached that place, she saw a man waiting for her wearing a blue cap and a blue overcoat. He had beard and his dark eyes bore into her. “Who are you?” she asked, picking the phone up.
He chuckled. “I am Harry. How are you, Maggie?”
