He wiped away the blood and coldly remarked, “You don’t deserve to die with my mother.”
With those words, Noah turned and left.
River stumbled and fell into a chair, feeling as if all her energy had been drained from her body. Tears streamed down her pale face once again.
Meanwhile, Neil parked his car and rushed into Regal Restaurant. He inquired about River’s private room at the reception and hurried to the elevator.
As the elevator doors opened, Noah stepped out, his hands clenched tightly when he spotted Neil’s anxious figure.
Reuben glanced at Noah and said, “Sir…”
Noah averted his gaze and walked toward the door. “What did you want to tell me earlier?”
Reuben felt awkward. “Mr. Curry’s hand has already been crippled.”
Noah nodded. As he got into the car, he added, “Arrange a clothing factory for her.”
“Huh?” Reuben was taken aback.
Noah frowned. “Do you understand?”
After a moment of surprise, Reuben realized that Noah was referring to River. He nodded and said, “Understood, sir.”
Neil headed to the third floor and discovered River lying face–down on a table as he approached the empty room. He removed his jacket, approached her, and covered her with it.
Startled, River only found relief when she sat up and saw Neil. She averted her gaze to hide her swollen eyes, but Neil noticed.
“Why are you crying, River?” Neil inquired.
River fibbed, “I reopened my wound, and it hurt, so I cried.”
She didn’t want to mention Noah, fearing it would lead to a fight with her brother.
Neil frowned and said gently yet firmly, “Let’s return to the hospital. You can’t leave without informing someone, no matter the reason.”
River stood up and agreed, “Sure.“:
At Xander Residence.
Daniella invited Grayson to play chess after dinner.
Smiling, Grayson asked, “Why the sudden interest in playing chess with me today?”
Pouring coffee for Grayson, Daniella expressed with a sad look, “I’m sorry for causing you worry during this time, Grandpa. I think it’s better for me to move back to International Residence so I won’t trouble you.”
Grayson was taken aback. “Nonsense, child. Why move when you can stay here? We’ll take care of you.”
Daniella handed Grayson his coffee. “I feel like a burden, Grandpa.”
Confused, Grayson asked, “How so? Did someone mistreat you?”
Daniella quickly shook her head. “No, I just think I’m not doing well, Grandpa.*
Grayson set his cup down, his expression turning serious. “What’s troubling you?”
Daniella lowered her head. “I can sense that Uncle Tom and his family don’t like me, Grandpa. Neil is running the company, and it seems there’s no place for them in the family.”
Grayson frowned. “What are you talking about? If they criticize you, I’ll address it!”
Grayson prepared to head upstairs.
Daniella hurriedly held onto Grayson. “The more you confront them, the worse it gets, Grandpa!”
Grayson reassured her, “Don’t be afraid of them, Ella. They won’t dare to mistreat you as long as
I’m here!”
“Grandpa, there’s another way to make Uncle Tom and his family accept me,” Daniella suggested.
softly.
Grayson looked puzzled. ‘Tell me more.”
With a hint of pride, Daniella said, “Instead of suppressing them, you can offer them some benefits. After all, it’s been a while since Uncle Tom left the company. What do you think,
Grandpa?”
Grayson remained silent for a moment. “I see your point, Ella. Go upstairs and bring them down.”
Daniella summoned Thomas and his family downstairs as instructed
In the living room.
Thomas avoided Daniella’s gaze, and his wife, Greta Shawn, didn’t appear friendly.
Grayson grumbled upon seeing their displeased expressions. “Ella approached me earlier to speak.
on your behalf. I agree with her. Thomas, you can return to your role as the Xander Group’s VP
next week.”
Thomas and Greta were stunned.
Thomas asked, “Father, are you saying I can come back to the company?”
Grayson confirmed, “Ella is right. I’ve been too strict with you before. Excel in the company this.time.”
Thomas and Greta exchanged glances, realizing Daniella’s efforts to please them.
Greta smiled and said, “Thank you for this, Ella.”
Daniella smiled back and replied, “You’re welcome, Aunt Greta. Grandpa decided to bring Uncle
Tom back into the company, I simply started the conversation.”
Grayson glanced at Daniella in surprise and appeared pleased for a brief moment.
Thomas nodded at Daniella but did not express his gratitude verbally.
Thomas and Greta headed upstairs after briefly chatting with Grayson.
Yuliana asked as soon as they returned to the room, “Father, why did Daniella summon you downstairs earlier?”
Thomas checked the corridor, shut the door, and said, “Daniella told your grandfather to let me back into the company.”
Yuliana was astonished ‘So, it’s done with just a few words from Daniella?”
Greta sat down and said solemnly, “What do you think about this, Tom?”
“Nothing much. I still don’t think she is my sister’s daughter!” Thomas said.
Yuliana said, “Grandpa has acknowledged her, and the DNA test has been verified, Father. What you think doesn’t make a difference!!
Greta glanced at her foolish daughter and said, “Yulia, don’t meddle with this matter. Go back to your room first.”
Yuliana wanted to say something but nodded and returned to her room.
After shutting the door, Thomas sat down. “My youngest sister was open and direct in nature when she was still alive. She would never play tricks like this or suck up to someone! This child’s personality is different from my sister!”
must
Greta nodded. “You’re right. However, you just got accepted back to the company, so you help Neil to manage the family business properly. After all, we owe it to him. If we stopped your father in time, your sister and her husband wouldn’t have died.”
Thomas patted his wife’s hand. “Since Daniella wants to be nice, we shall do our part too.”
Grete said, “I understand. Set your mind at ease to work at the company, and I shall monitor her at home. If she has any idea to acquire the Xanders‘ inheritance, I will inform you right away.”
Thomas nodded.
At the hospital.
The doctor berated River as she received new stitches for her wound.
Neil reminded the nurses not to let River leave the hospital without permission. He still appeared displeased when River was sent back to her room
She looked at him in frustration. “It’s not that bad, Neil.”
“How bad does it have to get then?” Neil had a stern expression.
River covered herself with a blanket. “‘Don’t be angry, Neil I promise I won’t sneak out again.
Her phone rang just as her voice faded away.
Neil passed the phone to her. “Pick up the phone. I’m going to the restroom.”
River nodded and picked up Naomi’s call with a frown.
“Is there anything, Naomi?” River asked.
Naomi said, “I sent a number to you. It’s the contact of a not–too–large clothing factory textile workshop. I’ve already negotiated terms with them, and you can discuss the details yourself. Consider this as me paying back for the equity.”
“Clothing factory? So you know about the factory’s situation?” River was stunned.
Naomi said, “I heard from the VP. It’s getting late, I shall hang up now.”
River sank into contemplation as she looked at the end call interface.
Is Naomi doing this just to repay my favor? I don’t think so. She claimed to be paying back, but it feels like compensation too.”
However, she could not pick faults with Naomi’s remark.
River called the HR department’s deputy head, Dorothy Kroll.
River asked, “How is Ms. Lynch recently, Ms. Kroll?”
Dorothy said, “Ms. Lynch is rather diligent at work, Ms. Healy. We are monitoring her computer as per your order, but we haven’t noticed anything unusual.”
River said, “Alright, noted. Please continue to monitor her.”
“Yes, Ms. Healy.”
