“Does Daniella want both of you to fight so she can watch? That’s shameless,” said Paige, shocked.
“No, she doesn’t want to watch, but she sees this as an opportunity to gain Casey’s trust,” River replied.
Paige frowned. “So, Daniella is using Casey’s influence and financial ability to sabotage your relationship with Noah?”
River rubbed her temples. “Right now, it’s just Noah or Daniella and Casey.”
“River, do you have proof of Daniella’s communication with Casey?” Paige asked.
“No, but I can find a way to get it,” River said, picking up her glass.
Paige laid her head on the table and yawned. “Geez, it’s one thing after another..”
River looked puzzled. “Paige, you seem to get tired easily lately and don’t even enjoy nightlife anymore.
–
Paige’s eyes drooped. “I think work exhausts me, and I don’t get enough sleep.”
River fell silent. “Have you been getting your period?”
“My periods have never been regular, I’m definitely not pregnant,” Paige said, turning her head and closing her eyes.
River’s heart sank. “Do you and Alex use contraception?”
Paige remained quiet.
Suddenly, she sat up, wide–eyed. “Wait!”
“How’s your appetite? Have you been feeling sick? River asked anxiously.
“No, but I’ve been eating more than usual,” Paige said.
River considered it. “I’m not sure because I had morning sickness during my pregnancy with the triplets. But it might be best to get checked so you can plan.”
Paige lay back down. “Sure, I’ll do it when I have time.”
Paige’s voice faded as River’s phone rang. They exchanged a glance after seeing Casey’s text message.
River grabbed the phone as Palge exclaimed, “Have you been talking to Cosey, River?”
River was stunned. “Didn’t I mention it to you?”
“No! Am I not your best friend anymore? Why didn’t you tell me something so important?” Paige yelled.
River’s ears rang from Paige’s outburst. “Listen to me…
“Okay, I’m listening!”
River explained her few encounters with Casey.
Paige’s jaw dropped. “Damn! I was just wondering how you knew about Casey and Daniella. So that’s what’s going on! Did you find out anything during your meetings with him?”
River said, “No, he’s still suspicious of me.”
Paige said, “That makes sense. Let’s see what he sent you.“.
River opened the chat.
Casey. I heard Noah hired a top designer for his company.
Paige was puzzled. “That’s it?”
River smirked. “He’s obviously testing me.”
Paige sighed. “My mind’s not working well lately.”
River: [Yes, what do you suggest I do to turn things around?)
Casey. Let’s discuss it in person. Are you free tonight?)
River: [After dinner.]
Casey: [Great, I’ll send you the location later.]
That night, Paige joined for dinner. After that, River drove to Casey’s location. She arrived at the cafe
15 minutes later and found Casey sitting by the window.
She sat across from him. “Apologies for making you wait.”
Casey’s gaze met hers. “It’s been a few days, and you look a bit tired.”
River had no interest in engaging in small talk with him.
“Why are you texting me? River asked bluntly.
Casey smiled but remained silent. He signaled the waitress, saying, “Can she have a coffee?”
“I don’t want coffee. A lemon–infused water will do,” River declined,
The waitress nodded. “Of course.”
Casey grinned and asked, “Are you in a hurry to leave?”
River looked at him coldly. “I still have a lot to do. Can you talk now?”
Casey took a sip of his coffee, still smiling. “So, does this mean you won’t reach out to me unless I reach out to you first, Ms. Healy?”
“You should know I’m extremely busy, Mr. De Marco, River replied with a slightly serious tone.
Casey said, “I have a plan to shut down MK’s clothing factory, but I need your help with something.”
“What is it?” River asked.
Casey asked, “Do you think MK’s fashion designer will be useful if they deliver faulty products to their customers?”
River asked, “Why resort to dishonorable methods to defeat MK?
“Do you have a better plan?” Casey shot back.
River replied, “I can manage my company’s affairs on my own. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way.”
River grabbed her bag, preparing to leave.
Casey spoke slowly. “It seems you don’t despise him as much as you claim.”
River stopped and looked at him. “Just because I dislike him doesn’t mean I’d do something I’d regret for the rest of my life. Besides, it’s easy for Noah to discover the troublemaker. Going against him like this would be self–destructive.”
She knew Casey’s intentions well. He wanted her to seek his help If Noah found out she was behind it, using this as leverage.
I’m not falling for your trap, Casey, she thought.
She contemplated her predicament. If she declined Casey’s offer, he would become suspicious, making it harder to gather information when needed.
River reluctantly agreed. “Fine, but I have a question.”
Casey said, “Go ahead.”
River asked, “What’s your relationship with Daniella?”
Casey didn’t expect such a direct question. “Did you see us together?”
“That’s my concern. Just answer the question, River insisted.
Casey admitted, “We’re just friends.”
“Did you tell Danielle about your encounter with Jamie? River asked.
“Ms. Healy, that’s your second question. If you want more answers, you’ll have to impress me during our date.” Casey teased with a twinkle in his eye.
He stood up first, stating, “Il send you the date details. That wraps up our meeting for tonight.”
With that, he left..
The waitress promptly brought River a drink after Casey left
River took a few sips, but it didn’t alleviate the nausea caused by Casey’s actions.
Meanwhile, Noah parked his car outside the police station.
The police station chief, Fabian Dunn, greeted Noah warmly.
“It’s been a while, Mr. De Marco, Fabian said, extending his hand.
Noah shook his hand and casually said, “Sorry for the trouble. Please bring out the culprit.”
Fabian replied, “No trouble at all. I’ve already sent someone to fetch the culprit. Please wait.”
Noah nodded, adding, “I owe you a drink next time.”
Fabian chuckled. “You’re too kind, Mr. De Marco.”
They briefly conversed until a male officer brought Finn over.
Finn stiffened when he saw Noah and approached him fearfully, saying “Mr… Mr. De Marco.”
Noah glanced at him before turning to Fabian. “Thank you. I’ll have a brief chat with him.”
Smiling, Fabian replied, “Go ahead.”
