Casey laughed again. “No, don’t misunderstand me. I didn’t ask her to do anything. But Ms. Healy, I must say, I’m quite pleased with how you shielded me from Noah’s anger last night.”
“You’re a psychopath!” River snapped, her anger boiling. She couldn’t help but remember Noah leaning on her shoulder, silently shedding tears.
“I look forward to our next collaboration, Ms. Healy,” Casey said.
“I won’t do it again!” River firmly rejected him.
“Don’t be ungrateful,” Casey warned. “Or perhaps you can’t forget about Noah? Can’t stand to see him upset? Oh, by the way, Noah took you away last night. Did the two of you-”
“It’s none of your business!” River interjected. “You’ve used me enough! Don’t drag me into this mess if you don’t want trouble!”
Casey replied sorrowfully, “Don’t misunderstand me, alright?”
“I can see right through you!” River scoffed. “What can you do besides driving Noah crazy? Casey, you’re even worse than Noah. You’re nothing but a master of deceit, truly despicable!”
She coldly ended the call.
As she tried to regain her composure and focus on work, she received a text from Casey.
Frustrated, she checked it.
It was a photo.
When River opened the photo and saw its contents, her eyes widened in horror.
Trembling, she texted him back.
River: [How did you find out about this?]
Unfortunately, she received no reply.
She clenched her fists and wondered if he was trying to threaten her.
When Daniella returned to Xander Residence that night, Grayson asked, “Ella, why didn’t you go to the company this morning?”
Daniella had crafted an excuse on her way home. “Grandpa, you know my company is in the fashion industry. I had to visit a fashion factory.”
Her response elicited a grin from him. “Ah, you went to negotiate a deal. Are you tired?”
Pouting and rubbing her neck, Daniella replied, “Yes, I’m exhausted. Grandpa, I’m going to rest upstairs.”
“Go ahead.”
Once Grayson retreated to his room, Daniella sneaked upstairs and changed into ordinary clothes to avoid Noah’s men tailing her. She then hailed a taxi and headed to Villa Foresta in the northern suburbs.
Thirty minutes later, Daniella arrived at Casey’s house and stepped out of the car. She approached the door, but a stern–looking bodyguard blocked her path.
Confused, Daniella furrowed her brows. I’m here to see Casey. Why are you stopping me?”
The bodyguard replied, “Mr. De Marco is not currently available to meet with outsiders.”
“Outsiders?” Daniella widened her eyes. “Look at me! I’m no outsider!”
The bodyguard remained resolute. “You can tell Mr. De Marco yourself.”
Reluctantly, Daniella decided against causing a scene and called Casey.
After a brief wait, Casey answered.
“Ella?” Casey’s voice sounded gentle. “Why are you calling me at this hour?”
Daniella adopted a flirtatious tone. “Casey, why is your bodyguard blocking me?”
Casey coldly glanced at the wounded and bloodied woman nearby, whom he had abused. “I’m getting ready. I’ll open the door for you in a bit.”
Although Daniella was doubtful, she kept her words brief. “Alright, I’ll wait for you.”
After ending the call, Casey got up and grabbed the woman by her long hair, dragging her to a guest room.
The woman woke up in pain and screamed in terror upon seeing Casey. “No… please, stop. I was wrong.
Casey halted and warned, “I won’t hesitate to silence you if you make a sound.”
She was in pain but instantly fell silent as Casey removed her from the room.
Ten minutes later, Casey descended the stairs in his bathrobe and opened the door for Daniella. Her face was flushed from the biting cold, and Casey felt sorry for her. He took her hand and led her to the living room, covering her hands with his.
“Silly, are you cold?” he asked.
Daniella’s eyes welled up. “You took so long, Casey. It is freezing outside at midnight.”
Casey then placed her hands against his warm body and smiled gently. “Feeling warmer now?”
Daniella nodded with contentment. ‘Yes, I’m not cold anymore… Casey, I’m sorry I couldn’t help you yesterday.‘
Casey caressed her face. “It’s alright. I understand the need for discretion.”
Daniella then nestled into his arms. “I want to stay with you tonight, Casey.”
Casey held her head and spoke coolly. “You need to be cautious, especially since you’ve recently had contact with Noah.”
His refusal made her sigh. “Alright. I’ll wait and be with you after some time.”
Casey asked, “How’s Axel doing?”
“It appears he can undergo the surgery tomorrow,” Daniella replied.
“Well, that’s quite swift.”
Daniella extricated herself from Casey’s embrace. “You don’t want it to happen so soon?”
Casey shook his head. “There’s no rush for you to do anything. I’m just glad you’re safe.”
Daniella was moved to tears. “Thank you for being so kind to me, Casey.”
With that, she leaned in to kiss his cold lips, igniting a spark in Casey’s mind as he thought of River’s passionate and aloof demeanor.
Richie prepared for Axel’s bone marrow transplant scheduled for Thursday. All the reports confirmed Axel’s eligibility for the procedure.
Richie approached Noah. “Mr. De Marco, we can start the surgery immediately. However, Mr. De Marco Jr. must remain in an isolated, sterile room for some time after the operation.”
Noah wore a worried expression and asked, “How long?”
mone “Minimum one month,” Richie replied.
Noah felt a sudden pang of anxiety. “Can he leave before Mardi Gras?‘
Richie calculated and regretfully answered, “We’ll do our best.”
“Use the best treatments,” Noah instructed. ‘Ensure a speedy recovery.”
“Understood, Mr. De Marco. We’ll give our utmost to save him.”
Daniella arrived at the hospital at 10:00 a.m. and saw doctors wheeling Axel out of the ward, Axel opened his eyes briefly.
Daniella’s eyes were teary as she approached Axel, gripping his hand tightly. Axel, however, resisted her touch, looking at her with fear and caution.
Daniella wiped her tears away and reassured Axel, “Don’t be frightened, Axel. We’ll be here, waiting for you.
Axel nodded nervously and glanced at Noah. “Daddy, don’t worry. Take care and rest well.”
Noah affectionately ruffled Axel’s hair. “Alright, make sure you recover quickly.”
“I will,” Axel replied with a reassuring smile.
He was determined to recover and see River in good health. He would not let himself be defeated.
Soon, Axel was wheeled into the operating room.
Suddenly, River experienced excruciating chest pain during a meeting at TYC Fashion, She broke into a cold sweat and clutched her chest.
Concerned, her employees rushed over to Inquire about her condition.
Naomi stayed calm and quickly ushered them away.
Naomi handed River a pill for anxiety with some water, but River pushed it away, gasping. “No, I’m fine…”
Naomi insisted and forcefully placed the pill in River’s mouth, which startled everyone present.
River looked at Naomi in astonishment.
Expressionless, Naomi explained, “You must take it.” 1
She then gave the remaining pills to Josie, who was standing still. “Hold onto these.”
Josie nodded in a daze. “Alright.”
After a short rest, River felt better and thanked Naomi hoarsely.
“You’re welcome. It’s the least I can do,” Naomi said.
River smiled, adding, “I also appreciate your meeting with the old factory workers.”
Naomi replied, “It’s my responsibility.”
River straightened up, her expression gloomy. “I was fine earlier. It was just a sudden chest pain.”
She sensed that something was amiss.
Naomi noticed River’s tired appearance and advised, “You should rest more. You don’t look well.”
River forced a smile. “Maybe.”
