Paige was very upset. “Pug should handle this situation because she’s his mother.”
River explained, “If you marry him, you’ll have to deal with his mother.”
“I’ll deal with it when the time comes. Besides, I’m not obligated to marry him,” Paige retorted.
When Alex returned to the Price household, he encountered Rebecca and Azure, who had just arrived home.
Azure was thrilled to see him. “Alex!”
Alex sidestepped as Azure tried to hug him. “Who are you?”
Azure pouted. “It’s me, Alex. I’m Fatty Azzie.”
“Fatty Azzie?” Alex blinked, feeling like he had heard that name before.
“Yeah!” Azure nodded. “I used to follow you around in primary and middle school.”
Alex’s eyes widened in surprise. “It’s you!”
Azure smiled sheepishly. “You finally remember me.”
“Yes, I do,” Alex said. “But can you explain why you approached my girlfriend and my mother?”
His question made her blush.
Meanwhile, Rebecca stepped forward, furious. “I haven’t questioned you about this yet. Come inside.”
Once they were in the villa, Rebecca got straight to the point. “Break up with her! I won’t accept her as your wife!”
Alex got angry. “I won’t do what you tell me when it comes to my marriage.”
“Don’t provoke me,” Rebecca demanded sternly.
Alex glanced at her, displeased. “I’m not trying to provoke you, but I won’t do what you’re asking.”
“Alex Price!” Rebecca trembled with anger. “Do you know how she talked back to me?”
“That’s because you two confronted her first,” Alex argued. “You even falsely claimed I was engaged to Fatty Azzie and asked her friend to shut up.”
His complaints frustrated Rebecca. “How dare she complain to you!”
“She is my girlfriend and has every right to tell me, Alex said firmly. “Paige is the woman I’ll marry. I’m leaving.”
“Alex!” Rebecca yelled, but Alex walked away determinedly.
Azure tried to console Rebecca. “Calm down, Mrs. Price. He’s deeply in love now, and it’s impossible to make him break up with his girlfriend.”
Rebecca sank onto the sofa, rubbing her head. “I’ve run out of options…”
After a moment of thought, Azure said, “I’ve got an idea. If Alex won’t break up with her, we can make his girlfriend break up with him instead.”
Rebecca looked up, intrigued. “Azzie, are you suggesting…
Azure smiled. “Leave it to me, Mrs. Price.”
Paige and River arrived at the hospital in the afternoon.
After registering, Paige’s scheduled B–ultrasound had to be rescheduled for the next day, but River could proceed with her electrocardiogram right away.
They headed to the relevant department.
River asked, “Do you want to have a blood test today or wait until your B–ultrasound tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow,” Paige replied, exhausted. ‘I’m tired and don’t want to move.”
River nodded. “Okay, wait here for me.”
“Sure.”
River entered the department and quickly completed her checkup, receiving the doctor’s results in less than ten minutes.
Seeing her return, Paige immediately stood up and asked, “How did it go? Is everything okay?”
River shook her head. “I’m fine, except for a slight irregular heartbeat. I just need more rest.” She then pondered why she had experienced sudden chest pain that morning.
Meanwhile, at Grand East Hospital.
After a grueling four–hour surgery, the red light finally turned off.
When Richie emerged, Noah felt so tense that he couldn’t move a step.
Richie sighed with relief and announced, “Mr. De Marco Jr.’s surgery was successful.”
This good news quickly lifted the heavy burden from Noah’s shoulders.
Noah nodded and instructed, “Ensure Axel receives the best medical care.”
Richie reassured him, “Don’t worry, Mr. De Marco. We’ll cure him, and our nurses will keep him company.”
Daniella also looked relieved. Her eyes were teary as she said, “Noah, I’m so glad to hear that.”
Noah glanced at her and smiled faintly. “Thank you.”
Daniella blushed, surprised, and stammered, “Y–You’re welcome.”
“Let me treat you to a meal.” After giving Richie a few more instructions, Noah turned to Daniella and said.
“Let’s go.”
River returned to Bayview Villa that evening.
She placed her phone on the table during dinner, waiting for Axel’s response.
Tyler and Liora noticed her distracted behavior and whispered to each other.
Liora asked in a hushed tone. “Tyler, why is Mommy so absent–minded? Did you do something to upset her?”
Tyler sighed and jokingly tapped Liora’s head with a fork. “Can’t you think better of me?”
Liora stuck her tongue out. “Then what’s bothering Mommy?”
Tyler sipped his milk. “Why don’t you ask her yourself?”
Liora nodded and cleared her throat, then looked up at River. “Mommy?”
However, River remained fixated on her phone, mechanically munching her food.
Liora and Tyler exchanged glances before yelling in unison, “Mommy!”
Startled, River dropped her fork on the table and looked at them in panic. “What’s wrong?”
Liora pouted. “Mommy, you’ve been staring at your phone and Ignoring us.”
River sighed awkwardly. “Oh… I’m waiting for a text from Axel.”
Tyler chimed in. “You don’t have to wait anymore, Mommy. Axel’s phone is with Daddy.”
River was taken aback. “How did he manage to take Axel’s phone?”
Liora sighed, disappointed. “Oh no! We can’t contact Axel now.”
“Stop it!” Tyler scolded Liora. “He’s safe at home.”
Liora quickly covered her mouth. “I’m sorry, I misspoke.”
River refocused. “Let’s plan an outing this weekend. What do you think?”
Liora’s eyes lit up. She looked at River excitedly. “Really? Do you have time, Mommy?”
River rested her chin on her hand and watched her enthusiastic daughter. “Yes, I’m taking you both to a hot spring.”
Sipping his milk calmly. Tyler asked, “Is there something else you want to tell us, Mommy?*
River chuckled. “You caught that, didn’t you?”
Tyler encouraged her, “Go on.”
River served them some beef and said, “I might need to be away for three days next week.”
Wide–eyed, they understood she was trying to soften the news with a nice treat.
Thus, River proceeded to explain the reason for her upcoming trip.
Liora scratched her head. “Those people seem to be in a tough spot. Mommy, I support your decision to help them.”
With a thoughtful expression and a smile for River, Tyler remarked, “What you’re doing is pretty impressive, Mommy.”
River said, “The signal might be weak in the mountains. Please inform Axel if he asks about me.”
“Absolutely!” the children assured her.
Alex met Noah at Villa Rosa at 9:00 p.m. They sat in the lounge, sipping wine.
Alex asked, “I’m sure you’re relieved now that Axel’s surgery went well.”
Noah leaned back with his wine glass and took a sip. “Axel has to stay in a sterile room for a month.”
“Don’t worry. Richie will provide top–notch care. By the way, are you attending the opening ceremony in two days?”
Noah looked at him disapprovingly. “Aren’t you taking Paige with you?”
“No, because my parents will be there too.” Alex sighed. “Paige had a major argument with my mother today.”
Noah looked at Alex with curiosity. “Whose side are you on?”
“Undoubtedly on Paige’s side!” Alex replied firmly.
”
“What an ungrateful son!” Noah teased.
It put Alex in a tough spot. “I know, but I love Paige.”
“What’s your plan?” Noah asked. “Your mother isn’t easy to sway.”
Alex looked at Noah pleadingly, but the latter turned away in disgust. “Stop looking at me like that.”
“Can’t you help out a friend, just this once?” Alex asked anxiously.
Noah put his glass down. “How much do you love her?”
After a pause, Alex answered, “I couldn’t eat or sleep when we broke up. Does that count?”
Noah looked down. “Your mother may not listen to me.”
“But my father will!” Alex assorted. “He always values your opinion.”
Noah reluctantly nodded. “Alright, I’ll give it a shot.”
