Eustace looked up at Vincent.
“Did she go to Bardoff City?”
“Yeah, she left just now,” Vincent answered.
Already frustrated, Eustace felt even more suffocated upon hearing that.
“Who did she go with?”
He didn’t believe that Danika had left Parrington alone, for there was no good reason for her to visit Bardoff City.Vincent paused, worrying that Eustace couldn’t accept the truth.
“Christopher Spade?”
Eustace could hazard a guess without Vincent’s answer.
After all, only one man around Danika hailed from Bardoff City.It couldn’t have been anyone else.
Vincent nodded and was filled with worry for Eustace.
“I believe she has a different reason for visiting Bardoff City.It probably has nothing to do with Christopher Spade.” Eustace scoffed.
Vincent knew that Eustace didn’t believe him, but he was helpless because he genuinely had no clue about the reason for Danika’s trip to Bardoff City.
“Why don’t…you go to Bardoff City and explain to her?” Vincent asked cautiously.
Eustace glared at him, annoyed.
“Why should I? Do I look like a pushover to you?”
Since Danika thought he was full of lies, he refused to pester her shamelessly.
“I have my pride, too!” he thought.
Vincent was at a loss for words. He knew Eustace well, but he was afraid to speak truthfully in front of him.In the end, he said, “Okay.I’ll head back to work.”
He decided to leave quickly before he was dragged further into the drama.
Eustace was in no mood to pay attention to Vincent. After he left, Eustace was alone in the office, facing a heap of work files on his table, which he had no intention of getting to.
“Christopher Spade,” he repeated the name silently, face filled with resentment.
One could tell that he bore a serious grudge this time.
At the same time, Christopher sneezed on the flight.Danika opened her eyes and stared at him.
“Did you catch the flu?”
“No.”
He shook his head.
“Maybe someone is talking about me.You know I’m popular.”
She was speechless at his brazenness.
“Are we almost there?”
“Yes, soon. The plane is descending,” he explained.
Hearing that, she sat up straight and didn’t go back to sleep.
“I’ll check in at the hotel when we arrive.I’ll make an official visit to your grandpa tomorrow.”
She had planned it before the trip.He was caught by surprise.
“Aren’t you staying at my place?”
She stared at him like he was a fool and thought, “Why would I stay at his place when we have no relationship, to begin with? Oh, the things that people will gossip about us if they catch wind of this!”
“You don’t have to worry.Grandpa and I will happily welcome you.”
He was unbothered by the gossip, especially when he intended to marry Danika from the start.
She leaned against her chair and asked, amused, “I realized that you always mention your grandpa, but you rarely talk about your parents.Do your parents welcome me as much as your grandpa?”
She wondered if she was welcomed because her status was nothing compared to the socialites from Bardoff City.
“Parents?” he thought.
Then, he frowned at her.
“Ignore my parents.I don’t need them to poke their noses into my business.”
Christopher grew up with his grandpa and barely had any relationship with his parents. He also found them difficult to communicate with and rarely contacted them.
Danika thought the rich kids were a peculiar bunch—somehow, all of them seemed to have failed relationships with their parents.
“You can ignore your parents, but I can’t,” Danika said.
Christopher could treat his parents however he wanted, but Danika was sensible enough not to do the same.
As an outsider, she did not share his privilege. He didn’t object in the face of her insistence and said, “Sure.I’ll pick you up tomorrow.”
“Great.”
Soon, their plane landed at Bardoff Airport.
Once Christopher and Danika exited the terminal, they spotted the cars that Christopher had arranged to fetch them.He opened the car door for her.
“Let’s go.I’ll send you to the hotel.”
“Thanks,” she thanked him without fuss since it was hard to hail a cab at that time.
The chauffeur, an old man and a long-time staff of the Spades, placed her luggage in the trunk. He was puzzled by Christopher’s polite attitude toward her and wondered about the lady’s identity, who forced an attitude change in the arrogant young man.
“Could she be Christopher’s girlfriend? But I’ve not heard of any girlfriend,” the chauffeur thought.
He shook off the thoughts and drove them to Danika’s hotel after she shared the address.
Christopher and Danika chatted about her visit to the Spade Manor tomorrow. She was slightly nervous, wondering if Harvey Spade would tell her the truth during her sudden visit.
“Don’t worry.I’ve talked to Grandpa before this.Since he agreed to your visit, it shows that he is ready to tell you everything,” he assured her, much to her relief.
She looked at the streets of Bardoff City in a daze. This was her first time visiting.
“How’s the city? Isn’t it more prosperous than Parrington?”
Christopher appeared boastful; Parrington was no match for Bardoff City. The cities might share a common history behind their names, but they couldn’t be more different.
She nodded but shook her head again.
“Parrington is not as prosperous as Bardoff, but not everyone loves a prosperous city.”
Parrington was a great place, at least in her opinion. He didn’t argue with her and shrugged it off, as though she had the final say in the matter.
Not long after, the car arrived at the entrance to the hotel. She picked up her luggage and waved at Christopher.
“I’ll go in now.See you tomorrow.”
“I don’t mind being invited to your room,” he said with a wicked smirk.
Danika promptly ignored him and marched into the hotel with her luggage, disappearing from his sight in no time.
“Mr.Spade, should we head back to the Spade Manor?”
The chauffeur turned to ask Christopher but was taken aback by the unfriendly look on Christopher’s face—that was a swift change in attitude.
“Yes, let’s go.I’ll pay Grandpa a visit.”
