Danika went down the plane. Right after doing so, applause sounded. She realized that the passengers hadn’t left yet. They seemed to be waiting for her.
“Thank you,” they said gratefully.
Danika was suddenly a little embarrassed. She wasn’t too confident when it happened. If something terrible happened, she’d never make it up to all of them. Thankfully, she was lucky. After they left, Danika was questioned by the police. After that, she finally left the airport. Eustace followed by her side. He felt proud when he looked at her. This was the woman he loved. She was brilliant, shining bright like a star.
Danika was oblivious to his thoughts: All she wanted was to go home and sleep; she didn’t want to think about anything else.
“Get into the car. I’ll drive you home,” Eustace said. Vincent was waiting next to the car by the road. He admired Danika from the start; now, she was like some otherworldly being.
Danika didn’t refuse. She sat in his car, and they headed toward Parrington.
The incident quickly went viral. Netizens had fervent discussions, agreeing that the passengers were extremely lucky and cussing the two terrorists. Naturally, they’d also want to know who saved the passengers.
The airport had not publicly shared Danika’s photograph, but the passengers had taken photos of her. They were now uploaded to the internet.
While they admired Danika’s beauty, some discovered she was a doctor. Not only that, but she was also an incredibly skilled neurosurgeon at Parrington Hospital. They were all in awe of her.
She knew nothing of this. She merely slept and dreamt the whole night.
The next morning, news of the plane incident had only spread faster. When Danika got to the hospital, it was more crowded than usual. Everyone seemed to be looking at her.
She instantly felt a headache coming. She just wanted to work in peace; she didn’t want to be noticed by anyone. She had no way to tell when the admiration would die down.
Danika knocked and went into the chairman’s office.
“You were looking for me, sir?” Danika asked, looking at the old man behind the office desk. He held a newspaper in his hands. His smile was bright. “You’ve put us in the limelight, Danika” “Mr. Chairman…” Danika felt a little tired. Even the chairman was talking about this.
“I know you don’t like attracting attention, but you’re so brilliant that the glory just won’t stop shining on you.” The chairman smiled happily. He looked at Danika as if she were a sparkling diamond.
Danika didn’t want to talk about this anymore. “Did you want to talk to me about something?”
“Yes, indeed.” He put down his newspaper. “The hospital is having a conference in Parrington. I’m hoping that you can attend it.”
These conferences were not a rare occurrence. Parrington Hospital had them before, but not around this time. Now that the plane incident had happened, the chairman could use this chance to promote the hospital. On top of that, the people who wanted to meet Danika would be able to do so. It was killing two birds with one stone.
Danika saw through the chairman’s thoughts and felt a headache coming. “You don’t need me there, do you?”
She had just come back. There were tons of surgeries waiting for her. She didn’t have the time.
“You must go, Danika.” How could he promote the hospital if Danika wasn’t around?
Danika walked out of the chairman’s office, tired. She had a bunch of things waiting to be done, and now there was a new task on her list.
“Danika.” Morgan went to her side cheerfully, eyes shining. “Was it really you on the plane?”
“How I wish it wasn’t.” She wished that someone on the plane knew how to fly. That way, she wouldn’t have had to take over, and something like this wouldn’t happen.
Morgan placed her hands on her face. “You’re a hero! Why are you so sad?”
“I’m not a hero. I was just forced to fly it.” Thank God nothing had happened. If it had, millions of people would be cursing her right now.
Morgan knew that Danika disliked situations like this, and she comforted her. “It’s okay. The people online have the memory span of a goldfish. They’ll forget it all in just a few days.”
“Hopefully so,” Danika said.
She said little else to Morgan and changed into scrubs, preparing herself for the upcoming surgeries. She didn’t mind what people did as long as it didn’t bother her.
In the hospital corridor, a young man’s gaze fell on Danika. He retracted his gaze only when she disappeared out of his sight.
“Danika Zellweger,” the young man murmured and smirked. “You look interesting.” He smiled as if he had seen his prey.
That day, a lot of people took notice of Danika. Even the people in Bardoff City paid attention to her.
In the Zellweger Castle, Rowena Glass looked at Danika’s photo on the news. Her eyes gleamed in hatred. A report lay by her hands. The words “Paternity Test” were shown clearly on the document. One would be shocked to see it.
Jolene Zellweger came out of her room. Rowena hurriedly put away the paternity test. All that Jolene saw was Danika’s photo.
“Are you watching her, too, Mom? All she did was save a few lives. It’s nothing much.” Jolene’s friends were all talking about Danika. She was getting annoyed. She thought it was weird. Although she’d never seen Danika, Jolene knew she hated her ever since they learned of her name.
Rowena looked at her daughter and pulled her to her side. “Don’t you like her?”
“Why would I? We have nothing in common.” Jolene pursed her lips. She couldn’t describe the mixture of emotions she was feeling.
Rowena patted her head and smiled. “It’s okay. I’ll never let her appear around you.”
“She has no right to appear before me,” Jolene spat. She was the only daughter of the Ten Elites. How could someone like Danika from a small city like Parrington ever appear in her life?
In her next life, perhaps.
Rowena said nothing. She didn’t want Jolene to know about the paternity test. As a mother, she had to handle these things. The Zellwegers of Bardoff City only had one daughter. Jolene At the same time, in a small area in Parrington, Yvonne looked at Danika through her phone with jealousy burning in her eyes.
“Why? Why do I fall to this extent, and why is Danika the one being praised by millions?” she cursed The door opened, and Sam walked in drunkenly. “Yvonne “Have you been drinking again?” Yvonne looked at him in anger “What else can I do? Bloom Conglomerate has nothing to do with me anymore, and the money we got from selling our shares have all gone down the drain doing business. What can I do?” He smiled, feeling his heart ache He was the Blooms heir. He would never have thought that a day like this would happen.
He secretly blamed Yvonne, too. If it weren’t for her influence, he wouldn’t have sold his shares, and if it weren’t for her insistence on starting a business, the money wouldn’t have all been gone. They wouldn’t have had to move to a place like this.
Yvonne could hear the blame in his words, and she instantly scowled. “What? Are you blaming me?
“No” Sam walked to the sofa and sat down. He suddenly realized that Yvonne wasn’t as great as he had imagined. But he still loved her, so he didn’t say it out loud. He was only venting.
“Look at you. You’re useless.” Yvonne didn’t hold back. She was upset with him for a long time.” Why don’t you get a job and earn some money? Am I going to raise you?” Yvonne roared. She regretted marrying him.
Sam was feeling angry, too. “Me, working a job? Never.”
“Are you planning to rot away like this for the rest of your life? Waiting for me to work?” Yvonne’s tone was heavy.
Sam said nothing. He would never go to work. If those friends of his found out, they’d laugh at him Besides, he had a way out Although his shares were sold, his father’s were not. He could go back to the Bloom Mansion and live there. He would not find a job. As for why he would live with Yvonne in a place like this, it was mostly because of his pride. He was waiting for his father to take the first step Yvonne shoved him when she saw how quiet he was. “Are you even a man right now? Men have to take responsibility”
Im not going to!” Sam insisted “Divorce me!” Yvonne was enraged. She thought there was no use in persisting like this anymore. If they-split up, she might find better options.
Surprisingly, Sam wasn’t upset when he heard her suggestion. In fact, he seemed relieved. “Your said it We’ll divorce.”
“You probably wanted to divorce early on, didn’t you?” Yvonne thought Sam would apologize and beg her to stay, but now.
Sam thought nothing of it. “You’re the one who wanted it, not me.”
“You loser” Yvonne scolded. He clearly wanted to divorce her early on, but he didn’t say it out loud, waiting for her to do it instead. Then, it would all be her fault.
He was trash!
She wouldn’t have married him if she had known that this would happen.
Sam let her vent her anger on him. He seemed numb; he wasn’t upset at all.
Danika got off work at the hospital. The receptionist called her when she reached the entrance There’s a letter for you. Dr. Zellweger.”
Danika was surprised. She went over to take it from the receptionist and opened it. There was an invitation card in it that said, “Parrington Medical University 60th Anniversary Celebration.”
Her university was celebrating its 60th anniversary. The university had sent out invitations to successful alumni such as her so they would attend the celebration together. Although she only took one subject in university, she enjoyed her life on campus. She decided to attend the celebration.
She took the invitation and went to the entrance. It was then she realized that Eustace was waiting for her.
“Dinner’s on me,” Eustace said, smiling when he saw her. He seemed to be in high spirits, and he was indeed. After settling Mortimer’s issues and explaining it all to Danika, Eustace thought he had to express his sincerity so that Danika would know he was genuinely sorry.
“I’m not hungry,” Danika refused. She was feeling tired and wasn’t in the mood to eat with Eustace.
His face shifted slightly after being rejected. He was a little embarrassed. “You can’t upset your stomach. You need to eat something, at least.”
In his eyes, Danika wasn’t hungry She just didn’t want to eat with him, which made him sad. Thankfully, he had thick skin. Otherwise, he would have turned and left.
“Are you less busy nowadays?” Danika asked.
Eustace nodded. “Almost everything is settled.”
Danika’s phone rang; it was Jade. Danika was a little surprised. She accepted the call, and Jade immediately asked, “Are you free tonight, Danika?”
“Yes. What’s up?” Danika ignored Eustace’s presence. It wasn’t as if he was here on serious business. Of course she’d say she was free.
Jade didn’t know about Danika’s situation. She said at once, “There’s a brilliant person applying for a job at the company. I’d like you to look him over. And if you think he’s alright, I’d like to make him the vice president.”
Following Danika’s dreams, they would later establish a corporation, not just a fashion company. There would be more things piling up in the future, and she couldn’t handle it alone.
Besides, she was only experienced in the fashion department. If Danika wished to expand her company and involve other industries, it would be out of her skillset. Hiring people would be crucial during this time.
Danika was a little surprised. She and Jade had talked about hiring people, but they didn’t have high hopes for it. After all, finding a good manager would not be an easy task. She didn’t think that Jade would find someone so soon.
“Alright. I’ll come over right now,” Danika agreed. She wanted to see for herself the person that had gotten Jade all excited. She hung up and looked at Eustace. “Sorry. I’m busy today. We’ll do it next time.”
