“Okay, get ready. We have to meet Nathan.” She told me while she rushed out of the room. I’m assuming she’s going to tell Brandon the news.
I put on a sports bra and a long sleeve shirt, then I pulled on a hoodie. I went over to the bathroom to braid my hair, and when I was satisfied, I grabbed my coffee and made my way out into the living room. Everyone was waiting for me to get ready. I walked into the kitchen to put my now empty mug into the sink before I made my way back into the living room.
“You ready, Baby?” Mason asked me.
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” I answered.
“You’ll do amazing with your magic training, Babygirl.” Derek reassured me, walking over to me. He wrapped his arms around me, making me smile.
“That’s not what I’m worried about,” I told him.
“You’re worried about King Draco?” Derek asked me and I nodded.
“You have nothing to worry about. He is the former King and King Theo has already assured us that there will not be a war.” Mason told me, and I nodded. Too bad I wasn’t worried about war. I know it must hurt that his mate didn’t seek his help, that she didn’t accept their bond. That can’t be easy and then to find out that she had sex with another one of her mates and got pregnant. I couldn’t imagine if both my mates didn’t accept me. I’m not sure what my mother was thinking.
Sage opened a portal, and we all stepped through into the council building’s front gardens. Nathan and King Arthur were there to greet us.
“Hey, sis.” Nathan wrapped me in a hug. “You ready for some magic training?” he asked me and I nodded.
“I am. Show me how to open a portal.” I exclaimed excitedly.
“Starting with a hard one, huh?” he raised an eyebrow at me and I laughed.
“It would make my life so much easier if I could portal, then I wouldn’t have to rely on Sage.” I told him.
“You two have fun. We are going to check on the King’s,” Sage told me, giving me a side hug.
Both Derek and Mason came over to give me a kiss before they all walked into the council building. Then it was just me and Nathan.
“So, a portal?” he asked again, and I nodded.
“Okay, but first I want you to try something for me, okay?” he asked me and I nodded again. I’d do anything to learn how to portal.
“First, take my hands and then close your eyes.” and I did what he asked.
“I’m just searching your magic. I want to see how strong it will become.” He told me, right before a force pushed us apart and we both landed on our asses.
“Was that good or bad?” I asked him, standing up and brushing off the snow.
“You are definitely powerful. Okay, now I want you to focus on that pull you feel in your chest. Close your eyes and picture where you want to be.” he explained, and I did what I was told. I know it was silly, but I focused on my former pack house’s kitchen. I missed Ian and I haven’t been able to speak to him with everything going on. I heard a gasp and opened my eyes to find I had opened a portal and Ian was looking at me, surprised.
“Ashlyn, how?” he stuttered out.
“Ian, step through.” I told him and he looked nervous. But he finally stepped through and the portal closed behind him, making him jump.
“Ashlyn, what the hell just happened?” He stuttered out.
“Ian, I’m half witch.” I shrugged, and he looked at me, stunned.
“Oh, and this is Nathan. He’s the King of the magic kingdom and my brother. Nathan, this is a really good friend of mine, from my former pack.” I introduced them, and they shook hands.
“Where are your mates?” he asked, turning his attention back to me.
“They are in the council building. Nathan is training me, and I have just opened my first portal to Blue Moon,” I announced proudly.
“What?” Nathan breathed out.
“How? That pack is over ten hours away. How the hell did you do that?” Nathan asked me and shrugged.
“You’re the master. How am I supposed to know how I did it?” I asked him and he didn’t give an answer.
“Wait, your half witch? a hybrid?” Ian asked, and I nodded.
“It’s a long story and I’m sorry I haven’t texted you. It’s been crazy around here. How have you been?” I asked him.
“Boring, compared to you,” he said, and I laughed.
“Sometimes, boring is okay.” I told him. I wish my life would be boring. Ian walked over to me and wrapped me in a bear hug.
“I’m glad to see you, and I’m glad it’s under happier circumstances.” He whispered into my neck.
“I missed you too, Ian.” I smiled up at him when he pulled away.
“So, how do I get home now? Not that I don’t want to stay to hang out with you, but I have meetings this morning.” Ian told me.
“I understand. Give me a second. I have to think of the kitchen again.” I explained. Closing my eyes, I thought of the pack house kitchen again. When I opened my eyes, there was the kitchen.
“Wow, that is fantastic.” Ian whispered, awestruck. He turned back to me before he stepped back through.
“Come visit, anytime.” he smiled.
“I promise.” I called out to him before the portal closed. As soon as the portal closed, my knees buckled, and I fell into the snow. Nathan rushed over to me.
“Ashlyn, are you okay?” he asked me, concerned. He wiped my nose, and I noticed blood on his fingers.
“Okay, training is over for today. You are using too much magic, too quickly. You need to build up a tolerance to the magic being used.” he explained, helping me to stand.
“I’m sorry.” I whispered to him.
“There is no need to be sorry. That was amazing. You just need to rest and we can try again later, okay?” he asked while he led me into the council building and I nodded. Nathan led me into the dining room where everyone else was. Derek and Mason were immediately at my side.
“Baby, what happened?” Mason asked me while taking Nathan’s place.
“I’m fine, just used too much magic at once.” I told him while Derek was smelling me.
“Why the hell do you smell like Ian?” Derek growled out, and I sighed.
“She opened a portal to Blue Moon,” Nathan explained, and Sage gasped.
“She what?” she exclaimed.
“What’s wrong?” Mason asked, now concerned. Derek was wrapping his arms around me, trying to get the smell of the other alpha off of me.
“Derek stop.” I told him, trying to push him away. And he grumbled.
“Nothing’s wrong with it. It’s just impressive. Her first portal was to a place over ten hours away.” Sage explained.
“Both of you, I’m fine. Just a little tired.” I told them both sternly.
“Then why was your nose bleeding?” Mason asked me, raising an eyebrow.
“It happens when too much magic is used all at once and the user isn’t used to it,” Nathan explained.
“So, why did you want to see Ian?” Mason asked me, and Derek let out a growl.
“I just wanted to talk to him. I haven’t been able to tell him anything that has happened.” They both looked at each other as I told them.
“Both of you need to start trusting me.”
Too Much
Derek
“Of course, we trust you. It’s just.” I hesitated, sighing in frustration.
“Derek, what is it?” Ashlyn asked me, grabbed my hand with hers.
“Magnus gets anxious when you smell like another male, especially an unmated one,” I told her. And she signed.
“Okay, I’ll try not to smell like him, but I won’t stop being friends with him. We’ve been friends for 10 years. But I understand where you are coming from.” She told me, wrapping her arms around my waist, squeezing me tight to her.
“You have nothing to worry about. You’re officially stuck with me.” She giggled, looking up at me, and I leaned in to kiss her forehead.
“You say that like it’s a threat.” I laughed.
“I know I can be a pain in the ass.” She smiled, and Mason let out a laugh. And I pressed my lips in a line to hold in my laugh.
“Maybe, a little bit, Babygirl.” I squeezed her into my chest. Just then, a phone rang, and I noticed it was Ashlyn’s. She had it placed in her leggings pocket. She pulled away from me and pulled it out.
“It’s Brad.” She told us, stunned.
“Hey Brad, what’s up?” She answered. I noticed her face fell and her heart rate picked up.
“What? Where are you?” She asked him. Then she was silent while he answered her.
“Okay, I’ll be right there.” She exclaimed, panicked. She jammed her phone back into her pocket and stepped away from us. Before any of us could ask her what was going on, she opened a portal and stepped through. The portal didn’t last long, and it closed right behind her.
“What the fuck just happened?” I yelled to Mason, and he looked just as panicked as I felt. Immediately, Mason’s phone started ringing, and he answered it and put it on speaker.
“Prince Mason?” Brad yelled into the phone.
“Brad, what the hell is going on?” Mason growled out and I could tell it was hard for him to control his emotions.
“They hurt Grace. A patient attacked her in the hospital. I called to inform Ashlyn. How the hell did she portal here?” He explained.
“Where is Ashlyn now?” I asked him, ignoring his question.
“She rushed into the OR to see Grace. They didn’t think she is going to make it, her or our baby.” He’s voice cracked and I knew he was about to break down. I couldn’t imagine the fear he was feeling at that moment.
“If anyone can help her, it’s Ashlyn. Is Alpha Ian with her?” Mason asked, and Magnus let out a growl. Mason looked at me and I rolled my eyes.
“No, I’m not sure where he is.” He sighed.
“Okay, we will be there soon, okay? Keep Ashlyn safe until we get there. And Brad?” Mason called out to him.
“Yes,” he answered.
“Ashlyn will do everything in her power to save Grace and your child.” He told Brad. “Keep her safe for us.” Mason ended the call and looked over at Sage and Nathan.
“How the hell did she open another portal that far?” He yelled.
