Danika waved her hands quickly. “Oh, nonsense. I’m the one who’s bothering you. You wouldn’t have had to come if I hadn’t wanted to see Cal. ‘ After that, she took him from Marigold’s arms.
Since Caleb couldn’t yet tell people apart, he didn’t make a fuss when Danika held him. He looked even cuter that way.
She just couldn’t let go of him. Marigold teased, “Why don’t you and Eustace have a child together since you like them so much? You’ve been married for a while now, and your relationship is great. You can think about it.”
‘I am thinking about it. But because I haven’t raised a child before, I don’t have the guts to do it, so I asked you to take Cal over so I could try it out,”
Danika said.
Marigold looked at her and bit her lip, asking, “Is that really true? When Gilbert told me about it yesterday, I thought it was just an excuse.”
Gilbert was the potential heir to the Bradshaw family. Truth be told, Marigold knew that she couldn’t compare to him. She had to admit that she was worried. When Gilbert said those things yesterday, her first reaction was to think that Gilbert was looking for an excuse to send her away.
“Of course. Gilbert likes Cal so much. If I hadn’t said anything, he wouldn’t have let you come over.” Danika smiled. Although she managed to look happy, she felt bad inside. She knew that this lie would not last. Marigold would receive news of Gilbert quickly if he made moves.
Danika didn’t agree with Gilbert doing this. In her eyes, although the Bradshaws looked strong on the surface, the Zellwegers and the Quinceys could take them down if they joined forces. Gilbert didn’t need to bow to them, and he didn’t need to marry anyone to gain Esther’s trust.
Danika knew that Gilbert wanted to repress the Bradshaws quickly so he could be with Marigold and their child in peace. But Danika worried that Gilbert’s actions would make break Marigold’s heart. When that time came, he would lose her.
However, Gilbert had already made his decision. As his sister, Danika just had to support him. The only thing she could do now was to take care of Marigold and Caleb and keep them safe.
She looked at the baby in her arms in pity. She didn’t know what would become of this. If things went according to plan, that would be fantastic. But if it didn’t…
Gilbert had to step up his game. Only through his victory could he and his family live together in peace.
Gilbert and Marigold (59)
For the next few days, Marigold stayed in Danika’s house. Gilbert had not come to visit once. It made her notice that something was amiss.
But every time she thought of it, Danika would comfort her and say that she was sending Gilbert pictures of Caleb every day, which was why Gilbert didn’t come to see him.
Although Marigold knew that something was up, she didn’t press on. She believed that Danika would not hurt her. If she still held a grudge about what happened the last time, she would have taken her revenge long ago. She would not have waited until now.
But Gilbert’s non-appearance was still making her worried.
Her worries quickly became a reality. She soon found out on the Internet.
That day, she was going through her phone after a play session with Caleb. Suddenly, a news article appeared on her main page.
“Bradshaw Operations Heir’s Rumored Marriage with the Silveras.”
Bradshaw Operations heir?
The headline attracted her attention. If she was not mistaken, Gilbert was the one who was probably going to be the Bradshaws’ successor. She wasn’t sure, but her heartbeat quickened.
She comforted herself, thinking that it was just false news. But when she saw the pictures in the news article, she turned pale instantly.
Who could it be if it wasn’t Gilbert?
There was a woman next to him, and they were standing close to each other. One of the photos clearly showed Gilbert holding her close to him. Marigold bit her lip, turning as white as a sheet. It was Gilbert. She would never mistake him for anyone else.
Was he really going to marry that Silvera girl?
What about her, then? What was their romance from before? Marigold thought that they were going to be together at last. Did she read too much into things?
Once she found out the truth, Marigold understood instantly why Gilbert told her to move to Danika’s place. He was afraid that her presence in his villa would affect his marriage with the Silvera girl.
They had lied to her.
Marigold’s heart turned cold.
She wanted to save the pictures and use them to question Gilbert. Even if he didn’t like her, he had to make things clear to her; he owed her that much. She didn’t like being kept in the dark.
But when she looked at her phone, the news article had vanished.
Was it gone?
Or was it deleted?
Marigold suddenly understood why she hadn’t seen anything related to the Bradshaws lately on the news. They were all deleted, which was why she hadn’t seen anything and was lied to for so long.
“Marigold, the weather is fine today. Let’s take Caleb out to play.” Danika came in from outside. She’d come back early from work so that they could take the little one out to play in the good weather. She didn’t know how long Gilbert was going to take. The news of the marriage was already out. It would probably take just a little while longer.
They just didn’t know what it would take for Esther to believe Gilbert. She wouldn’t want him to actually marry that Silvera girl, would she? If that were the case, things would become difficult.
When she snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Marigold, she realized that Marigold was even deeper in her thoughts. She didn’t seem to have heard her at all.
Danika walked over and patted her on the shoulder. “Marigold? What are you thinking about?”
Marigold snapped back to reality and looked at Danika with a pale face, her eyescold.
Danika’s heart thumped hard. “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
Marigold said nothing, unable to express how she felt. She should have known that since Danika was Gilbert’s sister, she would be helping him out, so she teamed up with him to lie to her.
She was such an idiot

‘ Say something, Marigold. Don’t scare me.” Danika was panicking now. Marigold looked upset, yet she was saying nothing, which greatly concerned Danika. She didn’t know what was happening, but because of this, she was very worried.
Marigold scoffed. She didn’t want to beat around the bush. “You didn’t make me come here because you wanted to see Caleb, did you?”
“Marigold…”
“It was Gilbert’s idea, wasn’t it? He wanted to marry the Silveras, so he got an excuse to send me away, didn’t he?” Marigold felt as though she had seen through everything.
Danika’s face grew solemn. When news of the Bradshaws and Silvera’s marriage came out, Gilbert had gotten someone to delete them immediately for fear of Marigold seeing them. They had done this for the past few days, and it was a pretty good trick. However, she still saw it.
She placed a hand on Marigold’s shoulder and said, “Marigold, do you think my brother is the type to fall in love easily?”
Marigold said nothing. Her emotions were in turmoil, and she couldn’t think properly.
“If he truly wanted to send you away, he wouldn’t have sent you here. He would have told you to go away. Why would he go to all this trouble?” Danika continued.
Marigold wasn’t convinced. “Of course, he wants me to go, but he wants the child to stay. So this is the only option.” In her eyes, Gilbert was only doing this to keep Caleb. Otherwise, he would have gotten her to leave a longtime ago.
“With Gilbert’s abilities, Marigold, what would you be able to do if he forced the kid to stay?” Danika asked.
“I’d fight him with my life!’ Marigold said.
Danika said nothing as she looked at her. They both knew very well that this didn’t mean anything. If that ever happened, Marigold wouldn’t even be able to see him, much less fight him.
She took a deep breath and asked, “What is all this about?”
Danika sighed. She didn’t want to lie to Marigold anymore and told her everything.
Once she learned about everything, Marigold was speechless. “So, in order to gain Esther’s trust, he has to marry the Silveras?”
“Isn’t it hilarious? That woman has never been a mother to him, but she wants to control him like this.” Danika thought it was hilarious. If she were in Gilbert’s shoes, she would have caused chaos in the Silvera family. She wouldn’t have taken the time to scheme like Gilbert.
However, she understood Gilbert’s decision. His company was not considered very large, and if he were to fight against the Bradshaws, he would only lose. He wasn’t wrong for choosing to gain Esther’s trust.
Marigold began aching for Gilbert once Danika explained everything. Someone as cold and arrogant as him would definitely be miserable listening to Esther’s every order.
Danika could tell that she was miserable and quickly said, “So give Gilbert some time, Marigold. Once he has settled everything with the Bradshaws, I believe he will give you and Caleb a happy ending.”
“Really?” Marigold didn’t know what to say. She didn’t seem to have a choice. Was she really going to part with Gilbert like this? She didn’t have the courage nor the heart for it. She sighed and said, ‘I want Gilbert to tell this to me personally.”
‘Alright,” Danika agreed. It would be best if Gilbert said this himself

In the Bradshaws’ villa, Esther looked at Gilbert with conflicting emotions. Her son was brilliant. Although she hadn’t given him much authority, some board members had already suggested training him to be the successor.
She used to worry about convincing them to accept him, but she seemed to have worried for nothing.
But for whatever reason, the more brilliant he was, the less bold she was. She couldn’t help feeling troubled.
“How are things between you and Lottie lately?” Esther asked.
‘ Pretty good/ he answered. In truth, he hated her. However, he hadn’t expressed it. Lottie didn’t sense it, and Esther naturally wouldn’t, either.
Esther nodded in satisfaction. The Silveras were like the Bradshaws. They were considered to be of the same social standing. On top of that, Lottie seemed nice, which was why Esther had chosen her.
However, she still felt worried.
“Why is the news about you and Lottie deleted? Was that your doing?” Esther’s gaze sharpened. She stared at Gilbert as if wanting to pierce through him.
Gilbert looked right back at her. Although he knew that she was suspicious of him, he did not show his fear. “It was/
“Why would you do that?” Esther was taken aback by his straightforward admission. She thought that he would deny it. If he did, she would have suspected that he had other motives. But now, he was admitting to it.
“The Bradshaws have always been on the down low. I don’t think news like marriage should be leaked to the masses. I’ve discussed this with Lottie, and she thinks the same way.” Gilbert had prepared his answer. He wasn’t afraid of Esther asking him about it.
Indeed, Esther didn’t think too much of it. “Very impressive of you to consider that. The Bradshaws have survived for so long because of how reserved we are.”
That was why she looked down on the Ten Elites. She thought they were fools, airing out all their dirty laundry, inviting scrutiny and attention. It was not beneficial toward growth.
