“What’s going on?!” Louis asked with a frown.
Olivia, who was seated across, sobbed in devastation. “I don’t know either. Their newly appointed CEO has something against me, but we’ve already settled it. We were supposed to sign the contract today, but I have nothing now.”
Louis knew that the role of the Johnson Corporation’s spokesperson meant a lot to Olivia.
He initially planned to use Olivia’s identity as the spokesperson, which had brought them some fame at that point. However, who would have thought that this sudden move would turn into dust with the newly appointed CEO of the Johnson Corporation?
Louis turned slightly sullen and comforted Olivia gently. “It’s just a spokesperson deal. Don’t lose faith. This time, you may have lost this, but you’ll gain something better.”
“But I feel so sad,” Olivia said in low spirits.
Louis said, “I booked a table at your favorite fench–style restaurant. I’ll pick you up tonight, okay?”
“Really?” Olivia’s excited and delighted voice came through on the phone. “Let’s meet at Lansen Restaurant tonight, then! Be there or be square!”
“Be there or be square.”
After hanging up, Louis turned around to look at his assistant. “Go find out all the information about the newly appointed CEO of the Johnson Corporation! I want the info as soon as possible!”
“Yes.” After acknowledging this, the assistant turned around to leave the office.
At that moment, Rachel, who had no idea about this, was still busy in the office.
When her phone rang, and she saw the unknown number calling, she couldn’t help but frown slightly as she picked up. “Hello.”
“Rae–Rae, it’s me,” said Old Mrs. Jones, her voice ringing in Rachel’s ears. “I’m Old Mrs. Jones. Can you hear me?”
“Hello, Old Mrs. Jones.” Rachel grinned. “How has your health been lately?”
“I’m plagued with old ailments and diseases. How are you? I heard you got a new job. How are you adapting to it?”
Although Old Mrs. Jones didn’t mention where she had gotten that news from, Rachel had subconsciously thought of a handsome face, which caused her heart to skip a beat.
“I’m adapting fine.”
Hearing her calm tone, Old Mrs. Jones said with heartache, “Dear, no matter what, your health is the most important. It’s already so late. Have you still not had dinner?”
David’s words, “be there or be square,” kept flashing in Rachel’s mind, and she wondered if they had already reached the restaurant.
Were they waiting for her?
She took a deep breath and returned to her senses before saying with composure, “Thank you so much for the concern, Old Mrs. Jones. I’ll get some food once I get off from work. But, of course, you have to take good care of yourself too.”
“If only David were as sensible as you are. He’s so busy that I barely see him. He won’t be home for dinner with me tonight. God knows what he’s busy with,” Old Mrs. Jones said with a relaxed sigh. “I won’t disturb you anymore. Get to work.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up, Rachel returned to her desk.
She couldn’t process the information in the documents in front of her at all. All she could think about was David saying, “be there or be square” to Olivia.
Linda entered and could acutely sense how anxious Rachel was. Her eyes flickered, and she asked gently, “Since you can barely calm down, why don’t you take a walk with me?”
Rachel looked up at Linda and said with gently pursed lips, “Come on, let’s go home!”
When the car drove to a particular area, they happened to pass by
Lansen Restaurant. Rachel suddenly exclaimed involuntarily, “Pull over!”
The chauffeur slammed the brakes abruptly and stared dumbfounded at Rachel in the rearview mirror.
Rachel raised her arm and nonchalantly ruffled her wavy,
shoulder–length hair. Then, she said with a straight face, “Pull over somewhere.”
“Okay.”
The chauffeur soon found a parking lot. After pulling over, he walked toward the backseat to open the door for Rachel.
Rachel bent forward and got out of the car. “I’ll go take a breather. Wait for me here.”
“Yes,” the chauffeur assented.
Rachel strutted across the pedestrian crossing and toward Lansen Restaurant in her stilettos. Even she herself didn’t realize that she was subconsciously searching for that tall and burly figure among the crowd. “Rachel Grey!” exclaimed Jane, who was just as stunned as Olivia to see Rachel.
They thought that Rachel, who had left the Smith family, would now be in a pathetic and disheveled state.
However, they didn’t expect things to turn out differently from what they initially thought.
Rachel was clad in a blue suit that was obviously made of expensive fabric. It was flashy yet refined. Rachel made it look extremely cool and sophisticated. Her aura was incredibly assertive.
With her long, curly hair cascading down her back, she had a trace of womanly sultriness amidst her cold temperament.
In the past, Olivia had been jealous of Rachel’s gorgeous face. At that moment, Rachel was far more stunning than before. Her innate nature and pride were vaguely suppressing Olivia.
“Rachel Grey, what are you doing here?” Jane questioned, her eyes filled with intense disgust and jealousy.
Rachel frowned slightly and glanced at them indifferently with a trace of
displeasure on her pretty face.
She was simply everywhere!
“Rachel, I didn’t expect to see you here. Are you here for a meal too?” Olivia asked, holding back some of the jealousy and coldness in her eyes. Instead, she smiled and stepped forward to get closer to Rachel.
Rachel kept a straight face, but her gaze was incredibly morose. “Miss Cruise, did my previous warning fall on deaf ears?”
Faced with her dark eyes and aloof beauty, Olivia’s smile stiffened, and she stood rooted to the ground, not daring to take another step forward.
“Rachel Grey, why do I see you everywhere I go? You’re really everywhere!” Jane exclaimed. Even to this day, Jane still remembers the slap Rachel gave her. Thus, she gritted her teeth in rage when she saw Rachel. However, she couldn’t beat Rachel, so she had no choice but to think of ways to upset her.
Glancing at Lansen Restaurant nearby, she said with a mocking smile, “You’re here for a meal too? Take a look at yourself in the mirror! Lansen Restaurant is not a place anyone can enter as they please!”
Rachel smirked and looked at Jane with icy cold eyes.
Her indifferent gaze made it seem like she was staring at a dead person. Jane’s heart skipped a beat as her arrogance gradually faded.
At that moment, Olivia said understandingly, “Rachel, I know you have something against me, and you think that I snatched Louis away from you, but you have no idea how I was forced to leave him. For the past three years, I’ve never forgotten him.”
“I reckon you’re also aware that Louis doesn’t love you. He suffers every single day that he’s with you. So if you truly care about him, shouldn’t you be trying to empathize with him?”
A trace of contempt appeared in Rachel’s eyes as she retorted, “He’s the one who betrayed me, but I’m the one at fault?”
