“For fear of it becoming a habit,” Grace said, somewhat embarra**ed. “Some things may become a habit after many times. When you’re no longer able to rely on that, they become despair instead.”
“Why, were you desperate before?” he asked casually.
She took a deep breath, looked into his eyes, and finally stopped hiding. “Yes, I was desperate.”
His pupils froze slightly. The faint smile on his face also slowly faded away.
“Can you go out now? I want to change,” Grace said.
However, Jason did not back off. His dark eyes were still staring at her, and his fingers were stroking her cheek as if he was thinking of something.
After a moment, he muttered, “Will you be afraid if I say that it has already become a habit and that it’ll never change?”
Grace stared at the face close to her, not knowing what to say for a moment. She felt as if her heart was violently beating right now.
In the dressing room, Grace blushed and changed her clothes. Although Jason had gone out, she felt as though her face could still feel the touch of his fingers.
In the end, she had not replied to his question. If it had become a habit, it would always be so… What did he mean? Would he stand up for her all his life?
A man like him would never bother to lie, so he must be thinking the same thing as he was saying it.
However, what about later? Who would know? He had never been one for her to speculate on.
‘It was better not to have any… habits.’
Grace said to herself in her mind.
Jason stood by the door of the dressing room. His eyes were drooping low as if he was thinking about something, and his bodyguards stood behind him.
Suddenly, the bodyguard shivered as he looked to the left. He only saw a figure coming this way.
Of course, the bodyguard also recognized the man. It was
Brian, the crown prince of the entertainment industry and a friend of Young Master Reed. Therefore, the bodyguard did not move but just stood in the same spot.
Brian walked up to Jason and said, “Did you come here today to stand up for her?”
Jason slowly lifted his head and looked at the person in front of him, smirking. “So what if I did? What a coincidence to see you here.”
Coincidence? Brian smiled faintly. Knowing that Jason was here today, he guessed that Grace would be here too. That was why he had hurried over to see what would happen.
Sure enough, he saw a good show.
Even though he did not say it, Jason had probably guessed it.
“I don’t care if you happen to be here by coincidence or on purpose, but ‘she’-you can’t touch. ‘She’ is mine,” Jason said lazily. He looked indifferent, but there was some kind of seriousness in his eyes.
“Do you care that much about this woman?” Brian asked blandly.
“Yes, I do.” He confessed matter-of-factly, surprising Jason’s bodyguard. Young Master Reed just said that he cared about a woman. He… had never heard Young Master Reed say that before.
Young Master Reed had never said he ‘cared’ about Jennifer Atkinson, Young Master Reed’s previous fiancée.
Brian had a slight surprise in his eyes. After years of knowing each other, he knew how hard it was to get the word ‘care’ out of Jason’s mouth.
“Well, then I won’t touch her,” Brian said. “She’s not the one I’m looking for, anyway.”
However, it was hard to deny that she looked a lot like the person he was looking for. Sometimes, when he looked at her, he imagined that she was what that person would grow up to look like.
Nevertheless, she just looked like her. She was not her.
“What if she’s the one you’re looking for? Will you do something then?” Jason asked, raising his eyebrows.
Brian’s face remained still, but his phoenix eyes seemed to be rippling with something no one could see even if they wanted to. “If she is, I won’t let go even if I have to compete against you.”
Jason squinted. “So it’s a good thing she’s not, right?”
“Yes. Fortunately, she’s not,” Brian said and turned away.
Fortunately, she was not her. If she really was, then it would probably be difficult to deal with.
Brian thought and unconsciously reached into his pocket to feel for the bracelet. How long would it take before he found her?
Finding her had almost become an obsession.
When Grace walked out of the dressing room, there was no one outside except Jason and a bodyguard.
“Are you done?” Jason saw that Grace was now wearing her usual clothes with her hair in a normal ponytail. She had removed her makeup and her face was now bare, but it looked so much more flattering.
“Yes,” Grace responded.
“Let’s go, then,” Jason said, naturally reaching out to grab
Grace’s hand.
She withdrew her hand almost subconsciously.
He raised his eyebrows slightly, his black eyes fixed on her. “Why, you don’t want to?”
“I… can walk by myself.”
“I prefer to hold your hand,” Jason said, reaching out again to grab her hand. “Sis can’t go anywhere if I hold you like that.”
His chatty tone struck a shudder through her heart.
It was as if he had woven a dense web around her to take control of her life.
She did not want her future life to involve a man like him. She could not see through people like him, let alone figure out what was in his mind.
If she accidentally annoyed him, her fate then would probably worse than her three years in jail.
Grace wanted to pull her hand out of his fingers.
Her hand had only moved a little before his fingers clasped hers more tightly.
“Oh,” she exclaimed. Her eyebrows could not help but furrow together. She felt a pain on the back of her hand.
“Did I hurt you?” he said softly, his fingers slightly loosening. He had placed his fingers on the back of her hand, forgetting that there was a wound there that was not completely healed.
She bit her lip slightly. “It’s all right. You can let go of me now.”
However, he refused to listen. Instead, he pulled her hand closer and looked down at the faint bruising on the back of her hand.
Then, he brought the back of her hand close to his lips and gave it a gentle puff.
Grace gasped, only to see Jason blowing it seriously with his head low.
“It won’t hurt so much after I blow it,” he muttered. Then, he gently rubbed the bruise on the back of her hand with his fingertips, blowing and rubbing with a focused gaze.
Grace felt as though her heart was beating very violently at the moment, and her throat seemed to be so jammed that she could not say a word.
If it was Jason who did this, she would think she had a caring brother, but it was Jason… She was overwhelmed.
As for Jason’s bodyguard who was standing behind him, his eyes widened at the sight of this. When… had he ever seen Young Master Reed treat a woman like that?
Perhaps it would not be long before the entire Emerald City would know her name!
“Feeling any better?” A gentle magnetic voice rang.
“It’s… better,” Grace said, trying to withdraw her hand for the third time.
However, his fingers were firmly around her wrist. He carefully avoided the bruise on the back of her hand. “Be good if you know it hurts, or I’ll hurt you again if I’m not careful.”
Grace’s face flushed a little. His voice sounded as though it carried some ambiguous feelings.
Therefore, she could only be led by him to his Bentley.
The driver opened the door respectfully, and Jason and Grace got on.
“There’s still time today. We don’t need to go back so early. Is there any place you want to see?” Jason asked.
Omg you are the best!! Thank you for this book!
