Grace shook her head. There was nowhere she would want to go with him by her side.
“Then let’s find a place nearby. By the way, I remember when Sis used to take me to those night markets and malls.” Jason chuckled.
‘That was one of the most idiotic things she had ever done!’
Grace said to herself. She thought about the time when she scrimped and saved to buy clothes and a mobile phone for him. As it turned out, he was not lacking these at all.
Was she a joke to him at the time?
Jason asked his driver to park in front of a nearby shopping mall that Grace recognized as the one they had visited together before.
Back then, he said he had just gotten his paycheck. Then, they found a restaurant in the mall and went in for a meal. She thought of helping him to save as much money as possible, but now that she thought about it, it was unnecessary.
Right now, Jason was taking her to the same restaurant again.
“You want to go in and get something to eat?” he asked.
She bit her lip slightly and said, “Alright!” He went in first.
They found a place to sit, and when the waiter handed over the menu, Grace took it and ordered a variety of expensive dishes on it.
The waiter quickly recorded all the dishes. Even the waiter could not help but frown. This… This was too much. These two
Jason, on the other hand, smirked as he watched Grace ordering dishes. He was looking at her with a fondness in his eyes that he did not even know existed.
Grace ordered more than 20 dishes at one go. When she looked up, she saw Jason’s smiling and amorous eyes.
There were ripples in his eyes, and they revealed some sort of gentleness that seemed to say he could put up with her no matter what she did.
The light in his eyes and the smile at the corners of his lips were indescribably beautiful.
Grace suddenly realized that she was being silly. Even though she had ordered all the dishes on the menu, it was still nothing to Jason.
What was wrong with her? She was taking out her anger in such a silly way.
Frustrated, Grace dispiritedly handed the menu back to the waiter and said, “That’s all.”
“Is that all?” Jason said with a smile.
Grace bit her lip for a moment before saying, “That’s all.”
“Can you finish them? There are enough for seven or eight of you. Isn’t it a little too much for you two?” the waiter said tactfully.
Jason lightly said, “That’s all for now.”
The waiter took the menu and left.
Jason looked at Grace and said, “If Sis thinks that’s not enough, then you can order some more later.”
His indulgent tone made her heart leap again.
“I was fooling around just now. I better change the order and get rid of some dishes.” Grace hesitated and got up to find the waiter who helped them place the order.
However, Jason stopped Grace’s hand abruptly and said, “There’s no need for that. Why get rid of the dishes you like?”
“I don’t want to waste food,” Grace said.
Jason seemed a little surprised.
“Maybe the money for this meal doesn’t mean anything to you, but I… don’t want to waste these dishes by not eating them after ordering.” Grace bit her lip slightly.
In the past, she had always ordered a lot of her favorite foods in one meal, but only tasted a little of everything. Then, she would talk about staying in shape, saying things like how she could not eat too much and that she had to lose weight.
However, when her life got turned upside down, she found that it was not easy to get a full meal.
While in prison, she finished every meal for eating was the basis of living.
Sometimes, even when there was food maliciously left on the floor, she had to pick the scraps off and eat as much as she could. If she was unlucky and the meal was rendered inedible by ‘pranks, she would have to go hungry and wait for the next meal.
On another occasion, she had gotten maliciously teased for two days. She did not eat for two days and could only drink. water. At that time, she realized the real fear of hunger.
After being released from prison, she never wasted a meal and always finished what she should.
People were always like this. They would only cherish food after suffering the pain of hunger.
Jason stared steadily at Grace. After a moment, he said, “All right, then we’ll do as you say.”
Jason called the waiter and canceled the ones the kitchen had not started on, leaving only three dishes and one soup.
When the dishes arrived, Jason offered to help Grace set the tableware.
Grace picked up her chopsticks and looked at the food on the table. She never thought that a day like this would come when she would bring him here again for dinner.
Suddenly, her stomach gave an untimely growl. It was only then did Grace notice that she was actually a little hungry.
With her head down, she began to eat.
Jason, on the other hand, only stared at Grace.
Perhaps his gaze was so direct and unabashed that Grace could not help looking up at Jason. She asked him, “Aren’t you going to eat?”
“I am. I just want to watch you eat for a while first. I find the food more appetizing when I watch you eat,” he said.
“…” She suddenly felt speechless. What did he mean by that?
“Every time I watch you eat, the food looks more delicious,” he muttered.
“That’s because you’ve never tried being hungry,” she said with a faint smile. “If you haven’t eaten for days, even if it’s just white rice in water, you’ll find it delicious.”
His eyes froze. “Have you ever been hungry?”
“Well, yes,” she said lightly. What had been a matter of life and death back then seemed to turn into a casual topic right now.
His thin lips tightened. “Was it in prison?”
“Yes,” she replied.
Then, neither of them spoke anymore. She lowered her head and continued eating while his eyes remained firmly fixed on her.
She was still wearing those cheap clothes today. She lowered her head with a few strands of hair by her cheek.
With her thin neck and thin body, she was now thinner than the photos in the data he had collected of her before she went to prison. She looked as if the wind would blow her away.
Now, she was eating with her head down. Every bite was taken with such earnestness.
It was her earnestness that made him feel sour and sad.
If he had known that he was going to meet her and end up caring for her, he would never have let her suffer in prison!
Back then… He would not have let her go to jail for a crime like that!
Jason lowered his head and ate the food in front of him, but when it reached his mouth, the food suddenly seemed to turn a little astringent.
After the meal, Grace said, “I’m going to the washroom.”
“I’ll go with you,” he said.
Grace was rendered speechless. Did she need someone to accompany her to the washroom?
It reminded her of her old school days when girls used to go to the washroom in groups.
Now, he wanted to go with her?
Jason was just standing outside the washroom a few meters away when they reached the washroom’s entrance.
