Grace was relieved. She was afraid that he would go ahead and book all the mall’s washrooms so that he could go inside with her.
Grace went into the washroom and when she finished, she went to the washstand to wash her hands. Suddenly, a voice rang beside her. “Hmm, isn’t this… Grace? You’re at the mall to shop too?”
Grace looked up to see Andrea Schwartz, her former law firm colleague.
In the beginning, she and Andrea Schwartz had joined the firm in the same batch. She and Andrea Schwartz got along well. Andrea Schwartz often cared about her and tried to gain her friendship.
When she got into that accident, however, Andrea Schwartz stopped caring about her.
Grace was somewhat awkward meeting her old colleague.
“I read in the newspaper that Lily and your ex-boyfriend Sean Stevens visited the sanitation service workers at the Sanitation
Service Center to give the staff gifts. It seems there were also pictures of you wearing a sanitation service worker’s uniform. Are you working as a sanitation service worker now?” Andrea
Schwartz said as if she was full of concern.
However, many people in Emerald City now knew that Lily and Sean Stevens were engaged and would soon get married. Andrea Schwartz, when mentioning Sean Stevens, mentioned ‘ex-boyfriend’ as if it was a conscious reminder of something.
Grace stared at Andrea Schwartz, suddenly understanding something.
There was a flash of discomfort in Andrea Schwartz’s face as Grace stared at her. She was looking at Andrea Schwartz as though she could see right through her.
However, she told herself, ‘So what if she can see through me? Grace is no longer the rising star in the industry’
She had joined the firm together with Grace back then, but the person everybody laid eyes on was Grace only.
The colleagues in the office all used to say that Grace was going to be a big lawyer soon because she was doing great in her career and love life.
When Andrea Schwartz made mistakes at work, her mentor in the firm would ask her to be more like Grace. This made her indignant, but she was helpless.
Grace was like a mountain on her head. As long as Grace was in the firm, the others would always compare both of them who were in the same batch.
She, in turn, would forever live in Grace’s shadow.
Then, when Grace had her accident, Andrea Schwartz was happy about it. She even thought that God was helping her by causing something to happen to Grace.
Sure enough, after Grace went to prison, everybody stopped comparing her with Grace.
“Grace, don’t mind about it. I just care about you. It must be hard being a sanitation service worker,” Andrea Schwartz said with fake sympathy.
“It’s all right. It’s not that hard,” Grace said. At least being a sanitation service worker was a lot better than being in prison.
“How can it not be hard? As a sanitation service worker, you have to sweep the floor and tidy up rubbish bins every day. People say that sanitation service workers smell bad after being one for too long,” Andrea Schwartz said, obviously thinking that Grace was lying.
As Andrea Schwartz spoke, there was an unmistakable sense of disdain in her eyes.
“You can stay away from me if you think I smell,” Grace said. bluntly.
Andrea Schwartz’s expression stiffened before smiling. “We’re colleagues. How can I despise you? By the way, you can come back to the law firm whenever you’re free! Everybody misses you,”
Andrea Schwartz sounded as though she was making a pa**ionate invitation, but in reality, the words struck a sharp blow at Grace’s heart,
It was her dream to become a lawyer, and when she realized it, she dreamt of a day when she could become a real virtuous. lawyer in the legal field. She wanted to strive for justice in her heart.
However, that dream had shattered long ago.
Andrea Schwartz saw the faint flash in Grace’s eyes and felt more energized. “By the way, I have a boyfriend now. He’s a doctor, and he’s out waiting for me. Shall I introduce him to you later?”
“No,” Grace said lightly. “I have a friend waiting for me outside too, so I have to go soon.”
“Hey, take it easy.” Andrea Schwartz added. “You don’t have a boyfriend now, do you? My boyfriend is a professor at the university and knows a lot of people. Why don’t you let him introduce you to a few men?”
She said as she followed Grace out of the washroom.
Then, Andrea Schwartz called out to a man of medium build standing outside the washroom. He promptly came over.
Grace looked at the approaching man. He looked average in appearance but was a little older, looking like he was in his late 40s. Obviously, this was Andrea Schwartz’s boyfriend.
“Banghe, this is my ex-colleague, Grace. I happened to run into her in the washroom just now,” Andrea Schwartz said. She added. “Grace, this is my boyfriend, Tyler Barber. He is a professor at Yuren University.”
Andrea Schwartz sounded ostentatious.
It was Tyler Barber who hastened to correct her. “I’m only an a**ociate professor, not a professor.”
“In two years you’ll be a professor,” Andrea Schwartz said disapprovingly. She then asked Grace, “Didn’t you say your friend is waiting for you outside? Where are they?”
Grace looked up and did not see Jason.
‘Did he leave first?’ she wondered in her mind.
Andrea Schwartz thought Grace had only said that as an excuse, so she said, “Why don’t we find somewhere to sit? We’ll let my boyfriend see if he has someone in mind for you. He used to say that marriage is a big problem for some of the workers in the logistics department at his university. There should be someone your age there.”
Andrea Schwartz seemed somewhat embarra**ed as she said, “You don’t mind going on a blind date with workers, do you? I want to introduce you to some of the single lecturers at Banghe’s university, but you know those lecturers will usually ask for someone with a clean record. You might have a problem with that, but rest a**ured, although their logistics workers aren’t that well paid and less educated, they’re hardworking and don’t have much to do with others.”
Grace looked at her as she said all that and found it funny. She had never said anything about wanting to go on a date, but Andrea Schwartz seemed to think that she desperately wanted to.
“I don’t want any blind dates.” Grace rebuffed.
Andrea Schwartz’s eyes widened, and she stared at Grace in disbelief. “You don’t mind me introducing you to a logistics worker, do you? Grace, it’s not me. You’re not the same as you were back then. You’ve got to ask for less. If you don’t go on blind dates at your age now…”
“Why, is someone setting you up on a blind date?” A voice suddenly rang in Grace’s ear, and it seemed to make Andrea Schwartz’s voice stuck in her throat.
