River’s stomach twisted into a thousand knots as an ominous feeling bubbled in her c*hest. She had so many questions in her mind but all of them stopped on her t*ongue because it felt swollen. So she stared at Rosalie with her heart beating wildly. Rosalie was so driven in her maniacal rage that she had stopped reasoning things. Her mind had twisted to the level that the crimes she was committing seemed normal to her in her world. Seeing River staring at her with big eyes, Rosalie chuckled. “Don’t look so surprised, River. Howard was an innocent victim. When he came to know that Natalie had started spreading rumors about an older man stalking her and the possibility of that older man being Alpha Hunter, he confronted her. A*sshole!” she spat. “He scolded her so much that Natalie started crying h*ard and came to me. Seeing her disposition, I felt that she might stop spreading the rumors or back out completely. So, I convinced her, coaxed her, pushed her into not backing out. I said to her that I would deal with Howard. But-”
Rosalie pushed herself from the door and padded her way to Mia. She grabbed her hair and yanked her face back. She sniffed her and left her. She continued, “But Natalie was being forced by her father. In the end, Howard threatened her that if she didn’t stop, he would go and reveal it to Alpha Hunter and ask for forgiveness. Because he was sure that if Hunter came to know about this plan, he would throw them out of the pack or throw them in the dungeons.” Rosalie glanced at River whose eyes were following her. She came to kneel down in front of her again and placed her h*and on her t*highs. She brushed them lightly.
“You see,” Rosalie said. “I couldn’t let that happen. I had to stop Howard and so the only option left was to k*ill Natalie. Poor girl. She was no match against me. I am a pure-blooded Lycan and she is a half human.” She let out a short laugh. “It was a secret which not many knew. Anyway, after k*illing her, things went down annnnddd…” she turned her head over her shoulder to look at Mia. “Someone had to be blamed for her death. Mia was the best person. She was close to Natalie and Hunter’s sister. Investigations started and every little piece of evidence pointed at Mia.”
“You are wrong!” River snapped. “No one pointed at Mia. The whole thing remained a mystery!”
“Tsk. Tsk.” Rosalie laughed, shaking her head. “Remember the letter that I forced Natalie to write? That has her confession that she is scared of her life and that she is scared that it was Mia who was after her life. And guess what? I gave that letter to Alpha Hunter. Everyone in the pack knows that Mia k*illed Natalie because of Alpha Hunter.” She brushed River’s t*highs harshly. “Now what do you think would happen?”
“And why did you k*ill Howard?” River asked, cutting her off.
She took a deep sigh. “That idiot uncle of mine went around asking for Natalie because she was missing. He would go and find her everywhere. His guilty conscience drove him mad that he had driven his daughter far away from him. He would run in the jungles in his wolf form to find her. About two weeks back, when he returned home one night, he found me rummaging through Natalie’s room. He became suspicious. He started asking me questions and I gave slippery answers. When I left, he started probing. And eventually he found out what I had done. He confronted me and I ended up k*illing him too. Stupid, stupid Lycan.”
“You are insane!” River growled. “You have k*illed two people and blown all this into something so horrible!”
Rosalie shrugged. “I am not insane. All this was done to punish you. And poor Mia—” she bit her bottom l*ip. “She is going to be another innocent victim.”
“But what are you going to get with all this?” River said, her brows furrowing.
“What will I get?” Rosalie grinned. She got up from there and walked to the door. “I am going to use you to ger Hunter on his knees. I am going to deal with him to reject you and then marry me. Because I am the rightful Luna of the Dark Moon Pack. And you- you are nothing but dust. You are a worm that I will squash. I am going to send you into dungeons and k*ill you slowly and painfully. And I am going to make Hunter see it every day.”
“Do you think that Hunter will accept you as his bride after all that you have done? He is going to k*ill you rather than accept you as his mate. And if you are harboring those kinds of thoughts, then Rosalie-” she growled. “You are in for a big surprise, or rather a shock! Hunter and I are mates. Nothing and no one can separate us!” Rosalie bared her fangs and glared at River. She snarled, “Then watch me, b*itch!” She opened the door. “I am coming back in ten minutes to k*ill Mia. I am going to make you watch her as I k*ill her slowly.”
“Rosalie!” River shouted. “Don’t do this. It is plain stupid. As soon as Hunter catches you, he will k*ill you and not make you his bride!”
But Rosalie snarled at her again and closed the door with a bang. River’s worries increased a thousandfold. She called Mia. “Mia, wake up. Please!” River tried everything she could in her power to go near Mia, but her wrists and ankles started bleeding. How could she make it stop? Tears flooded her eyes. “Mia…” she sobbed. “Wake up girl. We have to do something.”
Rosalie walked in with two syringes twenty minutes later. “Have you heard of k*illing by drug overdose?” she asked River with a smile and a glint of madness.
