Hunter and River came in only to find that Mia was alone. Sarah was smoothening her moss green gown. “M’lady,” Sarah said, “Would you like me to cinch the sleeves at the wrist?” The sleeves of the gown were flaring. Before Mia could say anything, River interjected, “No. Rather cut them and make green beads in the shoulders. Let one string of the beads slip on the side.”
“Yes, Luna,” said Sarah.
Mia was still so flushed that Hunter remarked, “Are you well, Mia? You look like you have a fever.”
“I- I am well,” she replied glibly. But she was far from being well. Her life was about to take a major shift and she didn’t know if she was even ready. She clutched the sides of her gown nervously.

“Mia,” River said as she placed her h*and on her shoulders gently. “I know that you are feeling anxious, but this is a process that you have to undergo. And it is the best thing the Moon Goddess has bequeathed us with. Don’t be so worried, okay?”
Mia nodded and lowered her head. River cupped her face in her h*ands and lifted her face up. She could see that there were tears in her eyes. “Mia, what are you worried about?” she asked in a low, soft voice.
Mia gave a quick glance to Hunter and then looked back at River. How could she say about how she felt about Elijah to him. Hunter was averse to the topic and Mia was pretty aware of it. “It’s nothing. I am just too nervous.” Hunter closed the gap between them. He came to stand right behind her and circled her shoulders in his arms. He pulled her against her c*hest and said, “That’s why I wanted to tell you how to go about it.” He k*issed her temple. “Come with me to our bedroom. I will tell you everything in detail.”
Half an hour later, Mia was sitting in Hunter’s bedroom on the couch, munching peanuts. Hunter was on the bed with his l*egs sprawled in the front. He started explaining to her how the shift would be and what all she would have to do to ease it out.
As the time of shifting approached nearer, Mia’s restlessness increased. She stopped eating and skipped her dinner too. It wasn’t the part of shifting that she was worried about. She paced in her room continuously for an hour. She looked at her phone and thought of contacting Elijah, but she didn’t because then her patience would break and she might do something that would hurt her in the long run. Because at one point of time, she thought of locking herself in the dungeons below at the time of the shift. At least that way, she wouldn’t know who her mate would be. But what purpose would that serve? Because the moment she would come out, she would smell her mate.
It was 11:30 PM when Hunter and River came to her room.
“Mia!” Hunter said excitedly. “Come on, we have to go to the woods that surround the castle. Your time to shift is near.”
Her c*hest was already thundering and all of her senses were hyper. Adrenalin gushed i*nside her. Something i*nside her stirred for the hundredth time that day. It was as if it wanted to break out of her skin and then explore nature, the woods, the world.
With shaking h*ands, she held Hunter’s and gave him a t*ight nod. He patted her back. You will be fine, sister!” he laughed. “Now come! There will be many people to witness your shift.”
“What?” she squealed. “Why?”
“That’s because you are a royal. They all have to see Mia shifting into her Lycan. When I had my first shift, everyone came to witness it. Even the Elders,” he reasoned.
“You mean even the Elders would be there?” she asked, her eyes growing wide as fear pumped i*nside her. “Of course!” Hunter shrugged. “What did you think?” He started to pull her towards the door.
Mia looked over her shoulder at River who was shaking her head while following them. As they reached the woods, Hunter started running with her. He shouted to River, “Stay here and be very careful. You don’t have to come to witness it.”
“What the hell!” River shouted at him. “I am going to be there!”
“No, Mia’s beast will be new and she might be excited. She can harm those around her.”
“She won’t harm me!” River snapped.
Hunter gritted his teeth. His wife wasn’t going to listen to him. “Okay, in that case, stay with the Elders!”
“Okay…” she murmured, not happy with this decision. Asher had shifted and Hunter made River sit on his arms with a warning that she be treated like a flower. Asher’s beast was so scared of the warning from his Alpha that he literally treated River like a flower. He moved at a slow pace ensuring that not a branch snapped at her. He ordered two warriors to walk in front of them to cut or remove every branch or hurdle in the way. River got extremely impatient and growled at him, “If you won’t run faster, I am going to shift!”
Poor Asher started to walk a little faster.
They all came to a clearing where Mia saw that there were a few more Lycans and all of them were council members. She surveyed the place just to see if Elijah was there. Her eyes went to the Elders where they were making a place for River. Asher lowered his elbow and River hopped down from there. Mia’s restlessness increased. Elijah said that he would be there for her and he hadn’t come as yet. It was 11:55PM. Mia looked up and realized that it was a full moon night. The moon was shining so bright that the stars around it faded.
Asher came to stand beside Hunter and said, “What an auspicious day! We have a full moon night today. By the way, where is Elijah?”
“I am here,” a calm, yet lethal voice came from behind.
Mia turned sharply to see him and her face broke in a grin. “Elijah!” Her excitement couldn’t be contained. “I was waiting for you!”
“I told you that I will come,” he said in a breath voice as he came to stand in front of her.
“Mia,” Hunter called her. “It’s time!” He glanced at Elijah and gave him a t*ight nod.
“So, what do I have to do?” she asked, feeling a lot more relaxed.
“Focus on your inside. Feel your beast and let her take over.”
