I am going to fire you and make sure you don’t have any other job elsewhere.”
“I don’t know them, Sir. I am just telling you the names they told me to tell you. But the little girl looks so much like you,Sir.”
Oscar sighed, “Let them in!”
“Holy sh it!” He mumbled, replaying the conversation in his head. If there was anything, he couldn’t come to a reasonable conclusion as to what was happening and neither was he understanding the way his body was reacting and most importantly, why his heart was beating really fast.
Never in the world did he think that this day was going to come. At least not this soon. She was so against him and everything that had to do with him that he couldn’t help but think of why she was here with his daughter.
After what felt like forever, with random thoughts going through his head, a knock finally came through on the door.
The taxi driver pulled up in front of Wayde Enterprises. Vicky paid him after which she got down and also helped her daughter down from the car.
She felt the familiar breeze hit her and was surprised at how calm she was when she had thought she was going to be really cranky because of how terrible her last encounter in this environment was.
“Mommy, is this Daddy’s office?” Sophie smiled pointing at the very big, luxurious building.
“Yes, baby. Let’s go in.” Connecting her hand with her baby girl’s own, they made their way into the building.
The moment Vee stepped into the building with her daughter, She felt eyes on her and her little girl, probably because they could see the striking resemblance between her and her father. She knew where she was going, so she didn’t have to ask anyone for directions.
She saw some familiar faces and a lot of unfamiliar ones but she ignored them and focused on where she was going.
They got into the elevator and Vee pressed the button for the 6th floor hoping that Oscar’s office would still be located there.
Coming out of the 6th floor, both mother and daughter approached the receptionist.
“Hi, How may I help you!” She smiled at Vicky.
“Holy sh it!” She mumbled when she sighted the little girl.
“Hi. I’m here to see Oscar.”
“Do you have an appointment, ma’am?”
“No!”
“Then I’m sorry you can’t see him.”
“It’s a surprise. Can you please call him and let him know that Victoria Adlyn is here to see him, as well as Sophie.”
“Please!” She pleaded when she saw the hesitation in her eyes. Vicky was not angry because she knew the receptionist was doing her job.
She waited patiently for her to dial Oscar and converse with him over the phone.
“You can go in, ma’am. His office is just right there!” She pointed and signaled for the guard, standing outside Oscar’s office to let her in.
The receptionist, as well as the guard were new faces.
He knocked on the door, then opened it for them.
Vicky entered with her daughter.
A chill rushed down her spine the moment she found herself in his office. She felt a different wave of emotions running through her as so many memories started replaying in her head. Both the good and bad ones.
The structure of the office looked pretty much the same but it was painted a different color, had newer furniture and everything in it looked even more beautiful, including the owner of the office who looked extremely shocked to see them. Despite the fact that he looked so good and kept, his unhappiness was very much evident by the way his eyes were.
“Daddy!” Vee heard her daughter scream, released her hand from her own, and ran towards him.
Oscar had no idea when he rose to his feet, exited his desk side, and picked her up in his arms. He hugged her, ignoring the tears that rolled down his check as he shut his eyes for a while, savoring the moment.
Sophie hugged him back very tight.
Vicky tried her best not to get emotional by the scene before her but it was almost impossible. Even though her eyes were filled with tears already. She tried her very best not to let them fall.
She stood aside, watching both father and daughter as they had their moment..
Sophie pulled away from the hug just to look at her father’s face. She was still in his arms.
“Why are you crying, Dada? You are not happy to see me?” She said in her baby voice, bringing her hand up to wipe the tears off his face.
Her gesture only caused more tears to roll down Oscar’s cheeks.
Not wanting to ruin the precious moment, with his daughter still in her arms, he moved closer to his desk, took out some tissue, and wiped the tears away.
“I’m happy to see you, my love. I’m very happy you are here. G od knows I would do anything to have you here forever with me.”
She smiled. “I miss you, Daddy.”
“I miss you too, my love.”
She smiled even more, leaned closer to him and kissed his check. At this point, Oscar thought his heart was going to burst. from so much pride.
He saw Sophie pointing to her check, he realized she wanted him to kiss her back so he gently obeyed, kissing her cheek.
“Your office is beautiful, Daddy!”
“Thank you, my love.”
Finally taking a glance at Vicky, Oscar approached her where she stood, with his daughter still in his arms.
“I don’t know what brought you here or why you came but I just want you to know that this means so much to me.”
“My life lately has been nothing but an eyesore! I disowned my parents because they literally ruined me and if I give them the chance to continue to be in my life, they would keep ruining me,”
“My divorce, although it was successful, didn’t go well as planned as I lost quite a lot. 40% of my assets and every other thing. Since then, I found myself working day and night, back to back just to regain what I lost.”
“I hardly relate with people because nothing seemed exciting in my life anymore. My sister accused me of being so distant and I don’t even recognize my life anymore but seeing you guys here……seeing Sophie warm up to me, look at me work so much adoration in her eyes, and call me daddy just gives me a sense of hope that I can be a better individual and that things will definitely be fine with me.”
The pain Vicky saw in Oscar’s eyes was just so much as she tried her best not to tear up on the spot.
“Thank you!”
“Can we talk?” Vee voiced out.
“Sure!” He gestured for her to come with him and they both went to the visitors’ area which was the opposite side of his desk area.
She took a seat and he sat beside her, making Sophic sit on his lap.
Vicky searched in her handbag, brought out Sophie’s iPad, and handed it to her. She turned it on and continued watching her cartoons where she left off.
It wasn’t too loud so the adults could still have their privacy.
Vicky was thinking of how to start the conversation when Oscar’s voice came through.
“You look different!”
“Different? How?”
“You are glowing, which makes you look more beautiful”
“It’s probably because of the pregnancy.”
Oscar stared at her in shock.
She saw his lips quivering but unfortunately, no words came out.
Vicky reached for the test results in her bag and handed it to him.
It took a while before Oscar Collected it but he accepted it anyways and went through the details.
Looking at the date the test was done, as well as today’s date, he did the calculations and saw that she conceived during the period he was in Australia.
Oscar didn’t say anything as he kept on staring at the test results with teary eyes.
“I know I owe you an apology and I’m going to start from there,”
Im sorry for everything, Oscar.”
I’m sorry for any form of humiliation that I might have put you through. I know I went a bit too far but at that point, I was still hurt and also confused as hell.”
“It was never my intention to tell our daughter that you were no more. She couldn’t stop asking me and those words just fell from my mouth without me thinking it through.”
I’m sorry for how terrible hearing those words from her made you feel. I’m really sorry about it and I hope you find a place in your heart to forgive me and also forgive her.”
“This pregnancy,, I can’t explain how it came through. I remember taking an after pill and weeks later, I came through with silly symptoms. My assistant drove me to the hospital for a test and then this was the result.”
“I wanted to get rid of it at that moment but my assistant who happened to be my best friend spoke sense into me. Her words brought me out of my really dark place and made me see positivity in my situation.”
“The same day, I got the news that I would be coming to California for an official assignment which would take 5 weeks. I thought you had a hand in it but after I spoke to Gabriel, he made me understand that you quit from the affairs of the firm. the day you handed over your shares to Sophie.”
“It was just two days ago that I broke the news to our daughter and she was really thrilled about it. She had always wanted a baby brother. It’s too early to detect the gender but she made a promise that she was going to love her younger sibling regardless if it’s a boy or a girl.”
“Her reaction to the news motivated me in ways I had no idea I needed and for the first time since the doctor told me I was pregnant, I was really excited about the baby.”
“I honestly don’t know why I’m here or what I want but I’m just following my mind because I believe this is the right thing to do.”
She could see how heavy Oscar’s eyes were with tears.
Vicky reached for his hand and lovingly intertwined it with her own.
“Sophie needs her Daddy. And in as much as I hate to admit it too, I need you.” She freed his hand and rested it on her belly. “This baby needs you too.”
“You weren’t there to see Sophie’s pregnancy growth but I want you to experience everything with this baby. I want us to be a family if it’s okay by you. I want to do everything with you by my side.
“I know life is not perfect but with you by my side, Oscar, I know we are going to be just fine.”
Thank you🥰❤️
