“You need to stop acting like you know me well and that you know everything that goes.
on with me!”
“I don’t give a fuck about who resides in California. The city is big enough to even spend a year in it without bumping into any monster!”
“I have my reasons, which are private and very personal and that was why I came to you, hoping you would understand, but instead, you choose to ridicule me.”
“Fuck you!” She glared at him, rising to her feet.
“It’s okay for you to flare up. I understand where you are coming from. Just know that I do not think ill of you and I would never hurt you.”
“You probably need some time to cool off but the offer is still on the table in case you change your mind.”
Victoria shook her head, not believing what she was hearing.
“Just when I thought I had a friend I could count on.”
“I am not a bad person, Vee.”
“Yeah, I can see that!”
“I’m only fighting for what I want.”
“It was a terrible idea coming to you. Just forget all that I said.” She said with gritted teeth, storming out of Ashton’s office.
“I was looking for you. Mr. Phil..” Kathie said, bumping into Victoria by the door. It was obvious that she was just coming out of Vee’s office.
“What’s with that look?”
Victoria ignored, storming into her office, Kathie followed suit.
She stared confused, as Vicky made her way over to her desk and plopped down on her chair.
“What happened?”
“Everyone sucks, including the people I thought loved me most!”
“I don’t understand. Who annoyed you?”
“I feel so stupid. I really don’t like this phase of my life. I wish there was a way to turn back time. I wish I wasn’t pregnant.”
Kathie saw Vicky wipe tears off the corner of her eyes so she got even more worried-and- approached her.
“What happened? Was Gabriel here? Please talk to me.”
“No! I went to meet Ashton.”
“Okay?!”
“I spoke to him to see if he could go to California on my behalf. He told me he would go if I would spend the night with him.”
“No, Ashton can’t say that. He must be pulling your legs.”
“I thought so at first but he meant it.”
“A night with you or a date night with you?” Kathie asked for clarification.
“A night with me, and it includes me doing everything he wants me to do.”
“Ashton? He said that?”
“I feel so stupid going to meet him. I honestly thought he would do it for me since I considered him a friend.”
“What the hell?” Kathie scoffed.
“Where are you going?” Vicky asked upon seeing Kathie walking towards the door.
“I need to put him in his place.”
“Please don’t. I’ve had enough!”
“Why not? He was being such an ass to you.”
“For heaven’s sake, you’re pregnant! Why would he say something so insensitive to you!”
“He doesn’t know that I am with child and I don’t blame him that much. He loves me and all I have done is to reject him.”
“He’s just trying to put me in a very tight corner, knowing this might be his only chance with me.”
“I know how important this project is for the company. I know how much they need someone with a brilliant mind over there and Ashton is the one next to me that I can trust to do a great job.”
“I don’t know what’s going to happen now.”
Kathie sighed, taking a seat opposite Vicky.
“What are the chances of you running into him and members of his family over there?” Vicky knew that Kathie was referring to Oscar.
“It’s not about him. I just don’t want to be in that country.”
“Seems you have no choice now!”
“I don’t know what came over me when I told Sophie that I was going to discuss something with her when I come back from work.”
Kathie’s lips curved into a smile. “You’re going to tell her about her little brother?”
Who is having a little brother?” That very familiar voice came through, making the duo go still where they were both seated.
