Natalie smiled as she walked forward, handing Gina the gift she had brought for her and greeted her warmly. After exchanging a few pleasantries, they gradually became familiar with each other.
Although Gina was still young, she had the maturity of someone who had gone through many hardships.
She looked at Natalie with pleading eyes and said, “You’ll definitely help my brother, won’t you?” Natalie smiled and nodded, “Of course, you don’t have to worry about that. That’s my job.”
But Gina still seemed ill at ease. She looked beseechingly at Natalie and said, “Thank you. My brother is really hardworking, and he’s also the best brother in the world. To help with my treatment costs, he has sometimes worked five different jobs at a time, and he’s also working hard at the company. But he never had the opportunities he deserves.”
At this point, Gina’s emotions overcame her. Her eyes glimmered with tears, and she sat up straight. When Tony saw his sister trying to rise, he interrupted her. “Don’t exaggerate so much,” he said.
“There aren’t five jobs available every day. Besides, everyone in this society has to work hard.” Tony smiled as he spoke, hoping that Gina wouldn’t worry about his situation. But she stubbornly wanted to finish her sentence. So she looked at Natalie again and said, “Natalie, I can see that you’re a good person. So I beg you to give my brother a chance. He really is an outstanding guy.”
Natalie almost choked with emotion. She suddenly felt that the two siblings truly appreciated each other. Her tone was sincere as she said, “Don’t worry, just concentrate on getting well. Leave your brother to me.” Gina said cheerfully, “Thank you.” She looked at Natalie joyfully and couldn’t help crying tears of gratitude.
Seeing the girl lying on the bed looking tired, Natalie knew that she should be resting. So she caressed Gina’s hair and said gently, “Gina, rest well. Don’t worry, everything will be fine, okay?” Gina nodded obediently, hope filling her eyes. Natalie smiled and said, “Will you come to see me often?” Natalie nodded, her heart overflowing with gentleness. “Yes, of course. I’ll be delighted to visit you.”
Tony escorted Natalie out of the hospital. Seeing that it was getting late, she made to leave for home. As Natalie was walking away, Tony suddenly called out. She turned and asked, “Yes?” Tony said, “Don’t mind what Gina said. She’s just a child.”
Natalie shook her head. “It’s great that you have a sister who cares about you so much. I’m envious of you.” As she spoke, Natalie thought of her step-sister Cheryl. She and Gina were as different as it was possible to be.
Natalie gave Tony a comforting smile and said, “Go back and take good care of your sister. I’ll be leaving now.” He nodded and said no more. He was unconsciously relaxing his guard against Natalie. He realized. Natalie sighed.
It was so sad that these two siblings were already in such a sorry state, and their situation was made even worse by that lowlife Ellington. As she thought about this, Natalie’s anger rose, and with it, her determination to make Tony a superstar also increased.
When Tony returned to the ward, his sister became excited again. “Tony, why are you back so soon? I was asleep,” she smiled cheekily at her white lie. Tony laughed.
He could clearly see that the little girl wasn’t sleepy. Caressing her hair, he said, “Have you learned to lie to your brother now?”
Gina blinked, aggrieved, and said, “Who knew that she would be back so soon? I… I thought you’d be staying with your lady friend.” Tony was surprised; he hadn’t expected Gina to assume he and Natalie were a couple. He smiled and explained, “Natalie and I are just colleagues, that’s all.”
Gina smiled, saying gently, “I think Natalie is a good person.” Then her expression changed, and she said weakly, “If you can find yourself a partner, then I’ll be happy, even if this disease of mine can’t be cured.”
“Gina, don’t talk nonsense. I won’t let anything happen to you. You will definitely get better. Don’t you know that if you don’t get well, there’s no point in me living either?” More tears rolled down Gina’s face. She’d hardly ever shed a tear in the past few years of her illness, but every time her brother suffered for her, she felt a little burst of guilt. She said, “But my illness…”
Tony interrupted, “Gina, I will definitely find a cure for you, and when you’re better, I’ll take you to concerts, shows, movies—whatever you like. So, you must be strong, okay?” He dried her tears; his own eyes were filled with determination.
Gina nodded as a range of emotions surged in her heart. They had been struggling with this illness for so long. Was there still hope? But looking at her brother’s resolute and determined look, she felt a little jolt of optimism.
At that moment, a doctor came in. When he saw Tony, he said directly, “Mr. Bobel, I’m happy to tell you that we found a suitable treatment for Gina’s illness.” Tony was ecstatic. “Really? Oh, that’s amazing! So, can you please arrange for her surgery as soon as possible? I’ll think of a way to get the money together as fast as I can, even if I have to sell my blood and organs.”
The doctor smiled and said, “There’s no need. The woman who came in with you just now has already paid the cost of the operation and the treatment. After 2 days of tests, if there are no problems, then we’ll schedule the operation. Prepare yourselves.” Gina’s eyes were wide with wonder. “Natalie paid for it?” she asked, an incredulous expression on her face.
