The expression on Tony’s face was complicated. There was shock, but he was also touched. What had happened today meant that he’d have to work hard to repay her, even if he had to struggle for the rest of his life.
Tony gathered his thoughts and comforted Gina with a smile. “All right, Gina, rest well now and don’t let your thoughts run wild. Leave everything to me.” Gina nodded obediently and closed her eyes. All she could think about were the doctor’s words.
After his sister fell asleep, Tony took out the script he was working on and started to read through it. At the same time, he tried to understand why he had nearly given up earlier that day. He swore that no matter what, he would stand up again and succeed.
Meanwhile, Natalie, having paid the money to the hospital, was feeling troubled. The payment for the treatment had nearly emptied her bank account. When she’d gone abroad, she’d been almost penniless. Since then, she’d worked hard to save up her money bit by bit.
She had originally planned to put the money aside as a tuition fund for Liam. But after seeing Gina’s condition today, she felt she had no choice but to intervene.
Life was the most important thing. If you didn’t have money, you could always earn it. But if you didn’t have life itself, then there was nothing at all.
Life was so precious. Maybe they’d be able to pay her back. She thought highly of Tony’s potential, and if he worked hard, it wouldn’t be a problem for him to earn this much money within a year.
After Natalie left the hospital, she went to the school to pick Liam up. If she was late, Liam would definitely be angry. She hadn’t expected Bryce to pick up Liam, but when she got to the academy, she saw a familiar car on the road.
In front of her was Bryce here? She was slightly taken aback, but before she could think about it further, the car stopped right in front of her. Bryce got out, suppressing her shock. She asked, “What are you doing here?”
Bryce’s actions had really surprised her. He raised his eyebrows and shrugged. He seemed to be in a pretty good mood. He hadn’t really had the time to come and pick up Liam, but Mrs. Perkins had called him to tell them that he should go to the school to give Liam a surprise to boost his mood. So Bryce had temporarily set aside the work he had on hand and came to the school.
Natalie was confused by Bryce’s expression. She was about to ask more questions when she saw Liam sprinting out of the school.
“Daddy! Mommy! You’re here!” shouted Liam, running out with a joyous expression and hugging Bryce’s legs. Bryce squatted down and said, “Yes, of course. Why wouldn’t we come to pick you up?” He picked Liam up in his arms and turned towards his car.
Natalie looked at them as Bryce settled Liam into the seat and felt a little lost. She couldn’t help but ask herself, “Is this still my child?” She scampered over to the car, reached in, and picked Liam up. When Bryce saw Natalie’s expression, he laughed as he thought, “Is she jealous?”
Natalie asked Liam, “Tell me, how are you getting along with the kids at school? Did you get along with them okay today, or did you fight?” Liam pouted, “I am a good boy. The other kids really like me. Look, they gave me things.” Liam opened his bag and tipped out some gifts. The bag was full of candies, chocolates, and the like.
Natalie said, “All given to you by the girls, right?” Liam nodded, “Yes, I brought some back for you.” Natalie was moved. She kissed Liam on the cheek. This little guy, she thought, is popular wherever he goes. Natalie stared at his face as she thought.
Bryce, who was watching the mother and son closely, didn’t say anything. He just watched their interaction, feeling very touched. All this emotion he’d been feeling ever since he’d met the pair of them was so strange to him.
When they got home, Mrs. Perkins hugged Liam happily. “Liam, I missed you so much. Have you been good today?” Liam grabbed a bunch of candies from his bag and stuffed them into Mrs. Perkins’ hands, saying, “Mrs. Perkins, I kept these for you. Enjoy.” Mrs. Perkins was elated. Liam really was kind to everyone.
After returning from school, Bryce got really busy. After dinner, he retreated to his study and worked. Liam was having fun in the living room, while Natalie sat on the sofa using her laptop to draw up Tony B’s practice plan, while also trying to think of a way to get Tony in front of the public again. She had to deal with these two matters first.
Natalie worked until late. Liam got bored on his own, eventually going back to his room where he went off to sleep. He didn’t want to disturb his mom because he knew she was busy and was trying to earn money to support him. Tiredness finally overcame Natalie, and she fell asleep right there on the living room sofa.
When Bryce was done with his work, he came into the living room and saw Natalie sleeping there, bathed in a warm orange light that gave her skin an ethereal radiance. She looked elegant, perfect, and peaceful, not like a mortal at all.
