After Elijah had left her back to her room, Mia had crashed on her bed. She was extremely tired and sleep came in less than a second. It was as if every ounce of energy was seeped from her body. Elijah had warned her that this might happen after the first shift.
She rubbed her eyes as Hunter’s voice boomed in her room. “What do you want?” she asked, annoyed at him. His voice was so commanding that she got up instantly, but then she flopped back on her pillow. “I am too tired and want to sleep more.”
Hunter pulled away her comforter. She squealed and tossed her pillow, aiming his head, but he ducked and waggled his eyes. “Get up! Get up!” He was bouncing with energy. He winked at River who was sitting at the edge of the bed and shaking her head, seeing brother-sister fighting with each other. He walked past the bed and drew out every curtain from the window to let the afternoon sun rush in the dark room.
Mia squeezed her eyes t*ight and grunted. “When will you improve, brother?”
“Never!” He came to her and ruffled her hair. “Now go and get fresh. I got news for you!”
She raised an eyebrow over her sleepy eye. “I don’t want to hear. Just leave me alone!” She was about to plop back on the pillow when Hunter quickly removed that pillow too. “Can you be more annoying?” she shouted.
“Yes, I can be,” he replied with arrogance. “Now, go and get ready before I pick you up and dump you in the bathtub.
Mia growled at him but she knew that there was no point in protesting. Her brother would do exactly that. She dragged herself to her bathroom and when she emerged, she saw that Hunter and River were in deep conversation about the color of the nursery for their pup. As soon as they saw her, they became quiet. Hunter had a wide grin on his face.
She came to sit on the couch, picked up her morning tea and in a lazy voice said, “Brother, if your news is about having a different party theme, then it’s not going to work. Things are already done!” She munched on her buttered toast as she glared at him.
He sauntered to her with his h*ands clasped at the back and sat next to her. “No, it’s not about the party. It’s something else.” He dug the inside pocket of his jacket and produced an envelope. He slapped it on her t*high and said, “Open it.”
With her brows furrowed, she looked at the envelope. Her heart beat a little faster as she wondered if this was about sending her to a college with boarding facilities.
“What is it?” she asked with shaky determination to pick it up. She had just found her mate who was her brother’s Beta and she didn’t want to leave him. The thought of leaving him brought tears that stung her at the back of eyes.
“Something that will liberate you,” Hunter replied in a mysterious way.
Mia pursed her l*ips and when her eyes went to River, River signaled her to pick up the envelope. She m*outhed, ‘Pick up.’
Mia clenched her teeth as she controlled her emotions. It could be something else also. With a deep breath in, she picked it and opened it. She took out the contents with doubt in her eyes, but when she unfolded them and read them, there was surprise and amusement in her eyes. “Oh my goddess!” she squealed. “This is- this is-” she launched herself on her brother and hugged him t*ight.
Hunter laughed as he balanced himself and caught her just in time before falling on the couch. “You both deserve it,” he giggled.
She removed herself as her face flushed. She was bubbling with excitement. “You are sending Elijah with me for a Mediterranean cruise?”
He nodded with a grin. “Yes, this was River’s idea though.”
Mia squealed as she jumped over the table and ran to River to hug her t*ightly. “Careful!” Hunter grunted from behind.
Mia hugged River t*ightly. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!” she chirped. She couldn’t believe that Hunter was sending her alone with Elijah. Because he was very opposed to the idea of her romancing with Elijah. But how did things change so fast? Overnight?
As if understanding her dilemma, Hunter said, “I didn’t know that Elijah was your mate, Mia. However, him being your mate changes everything. I want you to spend time with him so that both of you can spend some quality time together. You’ve never been away to spend time with each other.” He got up from his place and came to sit next to her. He picked up her h*and and stroked the back of it with his thumb. “If I have ever been harsh to you, you will forgive me, won’t you? I have only done to- to- save you from heartbreaks.” He lowered his head. “I hope you understand me…”
Mia wrapped her arms around his waist. “I understand, brother…” She rested her head on his c*hest. She tipped her head up and winked. “You are the best brother one could ever have!”
Hunter’s laugh boomed across the room and the corridor. It was so infectious that every omega servant in that area smiled as their Alpha laughed.
Elijah came over a few minutes later. He was clean-shaved and very well dressed. His hair was gelled and combed back. He came to her room and was immediately greeted by Hunter and River. When his gaze fell on Mia, she blushed.
“Welcome to the family!” Hunter said, as he got up to greet Elijah. He clasped his forearms and then patted his shoulders as the men do. “I am so happy that my Beta is my sister’s mate. This ensures one thing.”
Elijah chuckled. “It ensures that she stays right here in this pack under your eyes.”
“That’s right!”
Mia gave Elijah the papers that Hunter had gifted her. When Elijah saw what they were, he was… shocked. He whipped his head to look at his Alpha with a gaping m*outh. “But Alpha Hunter, this is-”
“This is for my sister and her mate,” Hunter said with seriousness. “And you can’t deny it.”
Elijah pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head while laughing lightly. “You are sending us off in two days.”
“Yes, so you better pack. Tonight is the party!”
Elijah looked at his future brother-in-law with immense appreciation. He pulled him in his bear hug and murmured a thank you. His eyes roamed to River to whom he nodded as a thank you. River smiled at him and then she walked to Hunter. “I think we should go to have lunch. I am really hungry!”
Hunter’s Lycan got worried. He opened his mind link with the chef and ordered to serve lunch at once. He took her to the dining hall. River turned her head over her shoulder and winked at Mia before leaving.
