River and Noah entered the hospital, both feeling calmer. They rode the elevator to the top floor.
As the elevator doors opened, River’s surprise grew. It was like a spacious apartment up there, divided into five rooms by transparent glass. Sunlight streamed in, illuminating the space filled with flowers and trees. It felt cozy, more like a vacation spot than a hospital.
However, it was nothing like a typical hospital scene. It felt more like a holiday retreat.
River’s attention shifted to the doctors, her gaze fixed on them as she observed the rooms. Her eyes landed on Lily, lying in a bed with a respirator.
Filled with relief upon hearing the steady sounds of the medical equipment, River found some comfort.
The doctor, who had been noting down information about Lily, turned to face Noah. With respect, he bowed and began explaining the situation to Noah in fluent Spanish.
Meanwhile, the doctor’s expression displayed a mix of confusion and dissatisfaction.
River observed their conversation, her concern deepening. “What did he say?”
Noah turned his intense gaze toward her. “He said Lily is no longer in danger.”
“Just that?” River felt puzzled, as she had heard the doctor speak quite a bit just moments ago.
Noah pressed his lips together, his response somewhat vague.
The doctor from Aglait clarified that Lily was supposed to have awakened after her previous brain surgery. The fact that she remained in a coma was perplexing.
However, the doctor currently couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason, so he asked Noah if they should consider another brain surgery for Lily.
River wasn’t pleased about Lily being moved to this hospital. Plus, the idea of another surgery brought about concerns of its own, considering the risks involved.
Noah needed time to think it over before explaining it to River.
River did not understand Spanish, so she let it go. Even if she was curious, Noah would not tell her more if he was reluctant.
River sat beside the bed and gently held Lily’s hand.
After a while, she whispered. “Thank you.”
Noah’s gaze turned gentler upon hearing that. She finally spoke nicely to him
“You don’t have to thank me,” Noah replied. “She was my employee, too.”
River then fell silent.
In less than half an hour, Noah’s phone suddenly rang.
After picking it up and listening briefly, his face turned icy. “Ask all bodyguards to search around!”
River subconsciously looked at Noah, thinking. What happened? Why does he look so bad? He even asked all the bodyguards to search for a person?
River suddenly thought of her children. Her face soon turned pale, so she hurriedly asked, “Are the children missing?”
Noah stood up aloofly. “No! I need to go now. You can go home on your own later.”
He then strode out of the room.
River felt uneasy, so she decided to call Axel. 1
Axel answered the call quickly, his young voice brimming with joy. “Mommy!”
Upon hearing his voice, River felt a wave of relief.
She wondered, ‘What could have been the reason for Noah’s behavior earlier? Since the kids are fine, is there someone else influencing him so strongly?‘
However, River swiftly set those thoughts aside. She realized she didn’t need to concern herself with Noah’s matters as they didn’t affect her directly.
River refocused and spoke on the phone. “Axel, have you and your siblings had your meals?”
“Yes, Mommy. How about you?” Axel asked.
River smiled as she replied, “I’ll eat something once we’re done talking. Remember, you all should sleep early, even if your father isn’t home, alright?”
“Sure thing,” Axel replied. “Mommy, do you want to talk to Ty and Lia?”
“Sure,” River agreed with a happy smile.
After chatting with the three children, River stood up and left the hospital.
Someone suddenly collided with her as she approached the exit and was about to hail a cab.
This unexpected impact caused her to stagger a few steps before regaining her balance. However, the person who bumped into her fell to the ground heavily.
Turning around, River saw a woman wearing a long sleeping robe who appeared to be in a sorry state.
River could still make out the woman’s delicate facial features despite her messy hair. The.
woman’s eyes, though, were filled with fear and panic.
“I… I’m so sorry…” Jamie Weiss‘ voice trembled, and her eyes turned red.
River shook her head reassuringly. I’m fine. Are you okay?”
As she spoke, she extended her hand toward Jamie. The ground is cold. Let me help you up.”
Unexpectedly, Jamie shuddered vigorously at River’s offer, leaving her a bit puzzled
“Do you need assistance?” River inquired once more.
Realizing that River meant no harm, Jamie got back on her feet with some difficulty and created a bit of distance between them. “I was being chased, and that’s why I accidentally bumped into you,” she explained fearfully.
She then glanced around nervously.
Noticing Jamie’s bare, dirty, and bleeding legs, River furrowed her brows.
Before she could ask, Jamie’s stomach audibly growled.
Flustered, Jamie quickly covered her belly and blushed. “I’m sorry. I haven’t eaten yet, so…..
River chuckled warmly. “If you’re comfortable with it, you can come home with me. We need to tend to your leg injuries to prevent infection.”
Jamie was stunned before she nodded repeatedly. “Okay, take me with you. Let’s go!”
River nodded and brought Jamie home to Bayview.
Kenny wore an apron and cooked in the kitchen. He was going to call River to ask if she would be home for dinner when he heard the door open
Kenny walked out of the kitchen and saw River. “G, you’re home. I just finished cooking–Eh?
Who’s this?”
River looked at Kenny. “Get me the medical kit from the cabinet.”
“Oh, okay.
Kenny acted fast and returned to the living room with the medical kit. River had led the strange woman over and let her sit on the sofa.
Kenny then placed the medical kit on the tea table before he glanced at Jamie’s injured and curled legs
After that, he drew in a cold breath.
His action scared Jamie until she trembled and nervously grabbed River’s arm.
River glared at Kenny. “Don’t be flustered. You scared her.”
Kenny immediately nodded. “But who is she?”
“I bumped into her on the street,” River answered while opening the medical kit.
Kenny widened his eyes. “I didn’t know you like picking people up by the road. And it’s a woman!”
“Cut the crap! Go and cook!” River became impatient because of Kenny.
Kenny left dejectedly.
River helped tend to Jamie’s wound. “Where is your home? Do you need me to give you a ride.
home later?”
“Home” Jamie appeared to be in a daze. “I seem to have one.”
“How about your family? Do you know their contacts?” River added.
Jamie kept her head hung as if pondering over it.
River carefully cleaned the wound and applied medicine, all while waiting for Jamie’s
Yet, she was a bit surprised. The medicine could cause discomfort, but Jamie didn’t appear to be in any pain.
Couldn’t she feel pain?
“Oh, it came to me,” Jamie answered. “I seem to have a son, but I forgot his name.”
River was at a loss for words.
Jamie knew neither the location of her house nor her family’s contact number.
River wondered how she could give Jamie a ride home.
After thinking about it for a moment, she remembered Axel and Tyler were skilled at hacking
She wondered whether they could discover any hints about Jamie’s family.
After River tended to Jamie’s wound, she brought a set of clean clothes for the latter.
When Kenny led Jamie to eat, River called Axel
“Mommy!” It was Liora who picked up the call. “Mommy, do you miss my brothers and me again?”
River smiled. “Yeah, but there’s something else. Lia, can you let Ty talk on the phone?”
Liora shouted, “Tyler, Mommy’s calling you!”
Soon, Tyler was on the phone. Mommy, what can I help you with?”
River glanced at Jamic, who was eating in the dining room. Ty, can you help me look into a person’s profile?”
Tyler agreed to it immediately. “Sure. Who is it?”
“I don’t know who that is,” River explained. “I’ll send you her photo later. Take a look and see.when you can get her information.”
