“He is waiting for you inside,” he informed as he led Danika inside.
When Old Mr. Quincey saw her in the living room, he chuckled, saying, “It took you long enough to visit me, you heartless girl!”
“I’m sorry, Grandpa. I was embarrassed to visit you.”
After divorcing Eustace, she was afraid to visit him because he treated her too well.
“What are you talking about? Your divorce changes nothing,” he said. “Come and visit me often in the future.”
“Okay, I will visit you often in the future,” Danika promised, but her eyes were darting here and there as she tried to devise a way to bring up the Zelliot family.
After hesitating for a while, she finally plucked up the courage to say, “Grandpa, I came here today because I—”
Before she could finish her sentence, the sound of brakes screeching could be heard from outside. She swung her head toward the noise, panic flashing in her eyes. Why was her luck so rotten today?
“Is that boy finally here?” Old Mr. Quincey asked Warren. He was somewhat annoyed at Eustace for not appreciating the wonderful wife he used to have. What an idiot he was.
“It’s probably him. Let me take a look.”
With that, Warren left the room.
“You won’t blame me for not telling you in advance that Eustace would be back, right?” he asked, grinning at Danika. He was looking forward to the three of them having a meal together for the first time in forever.
Despite the dread weighing her heart down, Danika forced herself to smile and say, “No…of course I won’t.”
Her head was spinning. Didn’t Vincent say Eustace was going to visit a client? Why did he come to the Old Mansion? Everything was happening too quickly, and she was not prepared!
Danika looked at the door, her hands sweating profusely. Despite taking several deep breaths, she couldn’t calm herself down.
Were they finally going to meet?
“He’s coming! He’s coming!” Danika thought.
Danika had already heard the increasingly proximate sound of footsteps coming from the door. She became more and more anxious with every step. She just wanted to disappear. Trying to stay calm, she looked up again, ready to face Eustace. However, only Warren was there in front of her.
Where was Eustace?
Why didn’t he come? Was he standing behind?
Danika stretched her neck to check behind Warren, but nobody was there.
“Where’s that fellow?” Old Mr. Quincey’s face fell. When he noticed Warren was the only person who came, he already had a bad feeling.
“Mr. Eustace said there was an emergency. He will come and see you later,” Warren couldn’t do anything either. Eustace said he wanted to leave. He couldn’t possibly stop him.
“Bastard!”
Old Mr. Quincey threw a fit. He smashed the ground with his walking stick. “What’s so important that he couldn’t stay for a meal? He’s deliberately trying to piss me off!”
“Mr. Quincey…”
“Grandpa, don’t be mad. You need to be mindful of your health,” Danika comforted him. Knowing that Eustace had left, Danika was reli eyed. At the Lawrence’s.
When Eustace arrived, Faye’s parents were taking care of her in her room. They immediately left the room to give the two of them privacy when they saw him. “Auntie called me and said you’re not feeling well. What’s wrong? Why didn’t you go to the hospital?” he asked. “I’m fine. My mom was just making a fuss.” Faye felt a little embarrassed. She continued, “Sorry for making you come. My bad.” “No worries. I promised your brother to take good care of you.” He stared at Faye. “Are you sure you’re okay? Why don’t we go v isit the hospital?” “I’m really okay. I know my own body.” Faye shook her head, feeling slightly guilty.
“If that’s the case, I’m going to head back to the Old Mansion now. My grandpa is still waiting for me to have dinner with him.” After he finished speaking, he prepared to make a move.
“Eustace!”
Faye suddenly called out to him with tears in her eyes. “If it wasn’t for my brother’s request, would you even have noticed me?”
Eustace silently looked at her. After some time, he finally answered, “Have a good rest and recuperate. Stop thinking about all this n onsense.”
“Eustace, I…” “Alright, I’m going. Rest well, and take care.” After that, he left the room. When Faye’s parents saw that Eustace had left the room so early, they started to panic. “Eustace, why don’t you accompany Faye a while longer? She has been asking about you’
Eustace’s eyes swept across them with a cold gaze as if he could see right through them.
“Take good care of Faye. If something happens to her, the Lawrence family will cease to exist.
Understood?” he said coldly.
Before Anthony died, he had only asked Eustace to care for Faye. He had never mentioned these two people.
Mr. Lawrence repeatedly nodded. “We will take good care of Faye.”
He understood what Eustace meant.
“Good,” Eustace got up to leave.
“What about the collaboration?” Mr. Lawrence said through gritted teeth.
Eustace replied while walking out of the door, “I’ll get someone to send the contract over tomorrow.” “Alright, alright. We will surely not let you down.” Mr. Lawrence smiled happily, as did Mrs. Lawrence. Only Faye, who was standing upstairs, pulled a long face. She looked at her parents disgustedly. “Why did you ask Eustace for another collaboration? Hasn’t he given you guys enough?”
“What do you know? A one–time deal could never compare to continuous collaboration. As long as we work with Quincey Group, we will never have to worry about money.” Mr. Lawrence shot her a glance. He felt that his daughter was not bright at all.
Faye was so angry that her tears were about to fall. “Have you guys ever thought about how I would look in front of Eustace by doing all this?”
“When we become rich, do you still need to be afraid that he’ll look down on you?” Mr. Lawrence asked her in response. Voice full of blame, he continued, “Look at you. It’s been so long, and yet you still haven’t managed to win Eustace over. It seems like you must not be his type.”
“You!” Faye’s chest rose and fell out of rage. She wished she never had parents like them.
She turned around and shut her room door with a bang, reluctant to say another word to them.
When Eustace arrived at the Old Mansion, Danika had already left. Looking at the empty living room, he couldn’t help but frown.
“Where’s Grandpa?” he asked as he glanced at Warren.
“Mr. Quincey is in his study,” Warren replied.
As soon as he said that, Eustace was prepared to head to the study. Just as he lifted his feet, he suddenly recalled something and asked, “Did Grandpa have any guests over just now? I heard some voices at the door.”
Plus, that voice sounded familiar, as if he had heard it somewhere before. If it weren’t for Faye’s mother’s sudden phone call, he probably would have already recalled who that person was.
“Yup. It was Miss Zellweger,” Warren answered.
“Miss Zelliot? What was she doing here?” Eustace’s face instantly fell. He didn’t expect that the Zelliot family would look for Grandpa.
