River took a deep breath in and as soon as her contraction came, she pushed with a hair-raising scream. Hunter started trembling. He prayed silently to the Moon Goddess, ‘Please Goddess, be with her.’
“Great!” the doctor exclaimed. “Please Luna, keep pushing like this!”
After another five times, when River pushed for the sixth time, using every bit of her energy left, she heard a loud cry.
“Our heir is born!” the doctor rasped as he delivered Dark Moon’s pack heir. “Alpha Hunteif he said in a low voice full of emotions, “Your baby boy is here.”
Hunter… froze, as he watched the little pup. A tear ran down his eyes. River was p*anting as she watched her husband go to his baby and hold the little bundle in his h*ands. “My pup…” he murmured. He walked to River. “Our son…” he said, his voice going hoarse with emotions.
River, who was screaming up until now, had become so quiet as she watched him holding their son. He took the little bundle of their love near her and River chuckled through her tears. “He looks like you.”
Hunter laughed. “Yes, he looks like me.”
Suddenly, there was a sharp pain all over again. She screamed. Hunter covered his pup’s ears and took him away from there to h*and him to the nurse to clean him.
‘Another one is coming!” The doctor announced. He looked at Hunter eagerly. “Would you like to see the birth?”
Hunter stiffened at the suggestion. River grabbed his h*and t*ightly, saving him to see the process. She screamed again and pushed h*arder and eight minutes later, another pup came out. The doctor chirped. “We have another baby boy!”
“Twins!” Hunter muttered. “I got twin boys!”
River was so tired that she sagged in her bed. She gave him a smile as the doctor h*anded their second pup to Hunter.
“This is officially the best day of my life!” Hunter declared.
Elijah and Mia rushed in and congratulated the new parents. There was an air of excitement. Everyone was extremely happy because they got two heirs of the Dark Moon pack. “Congratulations!” Mia said to him as Elijah clasped his shoulders.
“Elijah!” Hunter ordered. “Go and announce to the Dark Moon as well as the Crescent Moon pack that we have got heirs for both the packs!” He couldn’t thank his stars enough. He was on top of the world. He went to River and k*issed her head. “Thank you. Thank you.” He peppered k*isses on her. “You’ve made me a proud father of two sons. I couldn’t have asked for more, love!”
She chuckled as she leaned into him and then she passed out. “River!” she heard him calling her name.
When she woke up, she saw him sitting next to him, holding her h*and, watching her with a fixed gaze. “Hunter…” His eyes were red and there were purple circles beneath them.
“River!” Hunter hugged her t*ightly. “How are you? Oh goddess!”
“I am well,” she replied, feeling his muscles relax against her. “How are our pups?”
He inhaled her scent and k*issed her nape. “They are well too…” he replied in a soft voice. “How long have I been out?”
“A few hours.” He gripped her t*ightly. “I was scared.”
She chuckled and caressed his cheek. “What names have you thought of for the pups?”
That brought a wave of excitement over him. He lifted himself a little to see her face. “Arthur and Hawke.” He searched her eyes. Her l*ips curled up and she blinked in approval.
“Arthur and Hawke it is.”
One year later.
Sitting under an oak tree of her pack, River was watching her husband and her sons who were playing with him. Arthur and Hawk were a year old and were the apples of their father’s eye. What River was wondering was how it was possible that both of them were carbon prints of their father. Both had dark hair and the only saving grace was that Hawk had her blue eyes, but Arthur had sharp green ones, just like his father.
Being the Alpha’s kids, they were growing faster than the other kids. At one year, they had both started walking, but it was becoming impossible for River to stop them from b*reastfeeding. Whenever she would suggest it, Hunter would growl and say that his sons needed their mother’s milk for as long as they wanted.
She had come to her pack to take the reports from Lena. Mia was also supposed to come with her, but Mia had given birth to triplets. She was a proud mother of two daughters and a son. Elijah was on the moon with his babies and a doting father. Just like Hunter he would help Mia with the pups every day and night.
Suddenly, the castle burst with life. There were nannies for each pup, and they were seen everywhere. Mia’s pups had started crawling and that was the worst phase for the parents. The pups would hide themselves in places they wouldn’t even think about.
Just the previous day, along with Arthur and Hawk, the three pups had taken out everything from the fridge and spilled it all over the floor. They had given each other a cool massage with jams and butter and milk. The cook had freaked out when he entered the kitchen and found the pups. The nannies had gone to take their lunch while the parents were sleeping, exhausted as hell. And this had to happen. Faria had fired the nannies for not being able to do their jobs properly. But River understood it well. After all, nannies too needed rest.
She laughed when Hunter picked up Arthur and sat him on his shoulders. Hawk cried loudly for attention and wanted to sit at the same place. Hunter had to pick him up in his arms, but that was not acceptable by Hawk. So he raised a lot of hue and cry as Arthur watched him with a victorious smile.
“These two are a h*andful!” Lena said with a rough exhale. “Who knew that you would give twin Alphas, River?” River giggled. “Sometimes, I get tired by watching them playing with their father. How is it that Hunter doesn’t tire with his pups?”
