Naomi entered and placed a stack of contracts before River “Ms. Healy, the workers have. signed the contracts and are satisfied with your compensation offer. Also, please sign this funding approval document.”
River glanced at the number on the document, which aligned with her estimate, and signed it.
“Leave the contracts here, Go home and rest. You haven’t fully recovered,‘ River instructed.
Naomi remained silent and showed no intention of leaving
Confused, River asked, “Is there something else?
Naomi replied, “Ms. Healy, the company requires the vice president’s presence.”
River had been so busy she had forgotten about that. “I should inquire when he’s coming back.”
She reached for her phone and dialed Kenny’s number.
However, his phone was still switched off.
“Is the vice president not answering the call?” Naomi asked.
River set down the phone, uncertain of Kenny’s current engagement.
“We’ll address this tomorrow. He’s likely occupied, or his phone is dead,” River replied.
She wished not to dwell on Kenny. After all, he was on leave. She wouldn’t have contacted him if she weren’t already preoccupied.
“Ms. Healy, I apologize for being nosy, but isn’t it strange that the vice president’s phone is only off today when he was reachable before? Furthermore, the factory was fine when he was around, but an accident happened in his absence.”
“Naomi, think carefully before speaking!” River warned sternly.
Naomi calmly remarked, “Ms. Healy, I’m just assessing the situation objectively.”
River, visibly mad, retorted, “It also depends on the person! Don’t you think I know what kind of person Kenny is?”
Naomi fell silent and stared at River
River realized her anger had flared up too quickly, especially after the silence settled in the
TOOM.
“I apologize, Naomi. I appreciate your analysis, but today is overwhelming for me. However, Kenny isn’t like that, and I hope you can trust him as much as I do
Naomi nodded. “I understand, Ms. Healy. I’ll do my best to connect with him.”
River nodded in return. “You can head home now.
“Alright.”
As Naomi left the office, River massaged her temples, feeling drained.
It was midnight, and River had fallen asleep on the desk.
Suddenly, a tall figure appeared at the office entrance. He quietly entered and noticed a small blanket on the sofa. Casually, he unfolded it and then approached River, gently covering her.
His face revealed deep compassion as he watched her restless sleeping form. He seemed to truly care as he observed her uneasy slumber.
Even with her eyes tightly shut, River furrowed her brow, sensing the warmth. She then sobbed and mumbled in her dream, “I’m tired… Mommy…”
Noah’s expression dimmed. Almost instinctively, he reached out to touch her face but stopped just short. Frustration welled up within him as he pulled his hand back.
“Maybe she doesn’t want to see me. Why should I add to her troubles by showing up when she‘ already troubled?‘ he thought.
With a heavy heart, Noah averted his gaze and quietly left the office.
Soon, he returned to his car, where Reuben asked in surprise, “Why are you back so soon, Mr.
De Marco?
Reuben thought, ‘Shouldn’t they be arguing for a while when they meet? Besides, he’s here to
Did Ms. Healy reject his offer?‘
Reuben glanced at the frowning Noah in the rearview mirror and sensed Noah’s sympathy for
River. It was a shame that neither of them was willing to yield.
The following day, River woke up at daybreak. She rubbed her sore arms and sat up. As she glanced around, her gaze fell upon a blanket that had slipped off her.
She was perplexed because she hadn’t covered herself. She knew her employees wouldn’t enter her office without permission. So, who had done it?
River glanced at the office’s surveillance camera and quickly pulled up the surveillance footage on her computer. Her eyes widened in astonishment as she watched the footage from. midnight.
It was Noah who had placed the blanket over her. How had he managed to enter her company?
River stared at the blanket, her emotions a jumble of confusion.
At 9:00 a.m., at De Marco Residence.
Draco had risen early and was waiting in the living room for the DNA report. His face lit up with excitement as the doctor emerged with the results.
“How did it go? Do you have the results?” Draco eagerly asked.
The doctor approached Draco, handed him the report, and said, “Here it is.”
Draco took the report, turned to the last page, and frowned upon reading, “The alleged father is excluded as the biological father of the tested child.”
“How is this possible?” he exclaimed.
The doctor also found it strange because Noah and Tyler looked very similar, yet they didn’t share a father–son relationship Nevertheless, he couldn’t find any error in his test results. He had doubl
-checked and was the first to receive the report.
The doctor said hesitantly, “It’s possible that they simply resemble each other-
“Say no more. Bodyguard!” Draco interrupted angrily.
The bodyguard by the door entered promptly.
Draco gritted his teeth and ordered, “Send the children home!”
Bernard asked, “You’re quite fond of these two children, sir. Won’t you let them stay a bit longer?”
“For what? Do I appear to be the type who raises someone else’s children without reason?” Draco shouted.
Bernard nodded and said, “You’re right, sir. We’ll send them away immediately.”
“Yes, sir!” the bodyguard replied.
Downstairs, the three children beamed upon hearing the raised voices.
Axel said, “Ty and Lia, it’s time to go home.”
Liora hugged Axel joyfully. “You’re the best, Axel!”
Tyler couldn’t help but smirk. “Where did you learn to combine criticism and compliments?”
“Mommy says smart kids figure things out on their own, and I’m one of them!” Liora said with pride.
Tyler pulled her away from Axel. “Alright, don’t get too carried away, or they’ll notice.”
Liora nodded. “You’re just jealous of me having a special moment with my big brother.”
Tyler smiled and reminded her, “We’re all siblings, you know.”
Liora stuck out her tongue, turned to Axel, and said, “So, Axel, what’s your plan? We’re leaving.”
“Daddy will come to pick me up. Don’t worry,” Axel explained casually.
“Okay, but remember to call us,” Liora said.
Axel reassured her, saying, “Sure thing. Don’t worry, Lia.”
Ten minutes later, the bodyguards escorted Tyler and Liora back home.
As Axel was about to descend the stairs, he heard a gentle voice call. “Father.”
Draco appeared to be in a better mood with Casey. “What brings you home, Casey? Come and have a seat.”
Axel frowned, thinking. ‘Casey? Daddy’s brother? I don’t think I’ve met him before.”
Axel quietly moved closer to the staircase corner and observed Casey, who wore gold–framed glasses.
Casey casually said, “I’ve returned to visit you.”
Draco replied, “You’re a good son. However, we’ll chat later because Noah is coming over shortly.
You should head upstairs to avoid him.”
Casey said calmly, “Yes, Father. I’ll go upstairs first.”
Axel was taken aback and quickly ascended the stairs.
Upon reaching the second floor, a drop of blood fell to the floor. Axel didn’t notice it until he entered a room.
When he turned around, he heard approaching footsteps. Panicked, he rushed into the bathroom. and repeatedly splashed cold water on his face.
The more anxious he became, the more his nose bled.
Outside, Casey noticed the blood dripping on the floor to Noah’s room. He approached and heard. the water flowing in the bathroom, looking sinister
Draco had informed Casey that Noah’s son had spent the previous night there, so the blood must belong to Axel.
Casey walked toward the bathroom, and Axel panicked when he heard his footsteps. He didn’t want anyone to discover his nosebleed especially his busy father. He didn’t want Noah to worry about him.
Casey arrived at the bathroom entrance, where he noticed the bloody water in the basin and the blood on Axel’s pale face.
Axel was startled and stepped back, covering his nose when he saw Casey. He tried to stay calm.
and asked, “Who are you?”
Casey blinked, and the coldness in his eyes disappeared. He now looked concerned and asked, ”
You’re Noah’s son, right? What happened to you?”
Axel stared at Casey, unable to comprehend how his earlier intense gaze had faded so rapidly.
Axel fibbed, “I tripped and hit my nose.”
“Should we get a doctor to check it?‘ Casey asked.
“No,” Axel declined, pretending as if nothing was amiss. He proceeded to rinse his nose again.
