Hearing that made Jade happy. She laughed but quickly composed herself. “Let’s discuss your designs first. They are amazing, but I don’t know if our customers would recognize that. I mean, we are a high- end brand. Your designs seem a bit too young. Are you sure they’ll work?” She had expected Danika’s design to cater to a more mature audience, so this was a surprise.

Danika nodded in response. “I have considered all of these. However, since we want to create our own brand, I thought we shouldn’t limit ourselves to one style. Let’s use these designs that cater to a younger audience to attract everyone’s attention first. We can always come up with more mature designs in the future Let’s not be too rigid. After all, there is no rule that a brand is only allowed to have one style.”

Every fashion brand employed several designers, each with a different style, so it was pretty common. While Danika was currently responsible for their designs, she might hand the role over to Jade in the future or even recruit new designers. Hence, her company was bound to have designs of different styles. “That makes sense. In that case, let’s get a prototype of these designs,” Jade said.

Danika nodded and put the designs away.

“What are you doing this afternoon? Why don’t you hang out with me?” Jade asked. She just came to Parrington, so she was still unfamiliar with it and had yet to explore the city.

Danika was put into a difficult situation by Jade’s invitation. If she hadn’t agreed to Eustace, she wouldn’t hesitate. Alas, she couldn’t do that anymore.

Sensing her hesitation, Jade narrowed her eyes at her suspiciously. “Hm? Do you have an appointment this afternoon?”

“It’s not an appointment. I’m just going to visit the fashion exhibition,” Danika replied, not daring to look. Jade in the eye.

“Perfect! I’ll go with you to see what the popular designs are.” Jade looked at Danika intently as if she had seen through her.

Danika wanted to slap herself for admitting she was visiting the fashion exhibition. She should’ve just lied and said she was going home to sleep.

Her perplexed look made Jade laugh. “Forget it, I’ll go by myself. I don’t want to disturb your date.”

“My date?” Danika was shocked. “It’s not a date. What are you talking about, Jade?”

“No? Didn’t Eustace drive you here just now? Aren’t you planning to go to the exhibition with him?” Jade asked, leaving Danika no room to refute.

With an awkward smile, Danika bit the bullet and explained, “We’re just going to the event together. It’s not a date.”

“Oh, sure, sure. Whatever you say.” She didn’t bother to argue with Danika as she had already decided that Danika was going on a date. Nonetheless, she admired Eustace. The last time she met him, Danika was still cold and indifferent toward him. Although it hadn’t been long since then, he managed to persuade Danika.

After talking to Jade, Danika left the office and headed downstairs. When she was walking toward Eustace, who was waiting for her not far away, a car suddenly stopped in front of her.

“Gilbert?” Danika was a little surprised to see him.

Gilbert got out of the car, his expression ugly. “I called you. Why didn’t you answer?”

“Ah? Did you call me?” Confused, Danika took out her phone to check. Sure enough, there was a missed call from Gilbert. She had been focused on sketching her designs and her phone was on silent, so she missed the call.

“I’m sorry. I was sketching my designs, so I didn’t hear the phone ring.” She apologized, very embarrassed.

Gilbert’s expression didn’t improve; her apology only made him feel worse. “Danika, when did so distant from me?”

All it took was one night for them to turn into strangers.

“No, you’re overthinking things,” Danika said, smiling wryly. She couldn’t meet Gilbert’s eyes,

Gilbert didn’t give up. He grabbed her wrist, asking, “Danika, do you not want me as your brother anymore?”

Danika bit her lip, not knowing how to answer. Of course she wanted him as her brother. However, she couldn’t pretend that nothing had happened.

“You’re hurting me.” She tried to free herself but failed. The truth was, she could break free, but that would mean she would need to fight Gilbert. If that happened, it would be the end of their relationship.

“Let her go.” As soon as Eustace’s voice sounded, he appeared in front of Danika in the blink of an eye. He pushed her behind him and fixed his eyes on Gilbert.

Taking in the scene, Gilbert’s heart throbbed in pain. “Danika is my sister! I’m talking to my sister. You don’t tell me what to do!” If it weren’t for her, he would have told Eustace to fuck off.

There was no way Eustace would retreat simply because of his words. Instead, he forcefully broke Gilbert’s grip, setting Danika free. Glaring at him coldly, Eustace said, “Since she’s your sister, you shouldn’t hurt her.”

“I’m not-”

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll excuse myself, Gilbert,” Danika said. She felt tired. Although she wasn’t angry at Gilbert, she didn’t know how to face him. With that, Eustace led Danika away.

Gilbert stood as still as a statue, even when the car pulled out of sight.

“I told you a long time ago that Danika wouldn’t accept it,” Jade said with a sigh, suddenly appearing beside him. She was the first to know that Gilbert liked Danika, having discovered it when she was in Orchid Village. She had told him a few times to let go of his feelings, but he never listened. Now, look at how things turned out.

Gilbert turned to look at Jade. “Why can’t she accept me? We aren’t related by blood, and I am not worse than Eustace.” He didn’t understand. Was it because they were siblings? They weren’t even biological siblings.

“Perhaps, in your opinion, you’re not real brothers and sisters since you’re not blood-related. However, to Danika, you are real brothers and sisters. It doesn’t matter whether you’re related by blood or not,” Jade explained, urging Gilbert to give up.

Gilbert understood everything she said. Alas, he was not willing to give up. He stared in the direction Danika and Eustace left, refusing to come to his senses.

Jade sighed at the sight. She had said everything she could. It was up to Gilbert to figure things out.

In Eustace’s car, Danika’s good mood was ruined by Gilbert’s appearance. She was silent from the moment she entered the car.

“What would you like for dinner? After the exhibition, let’s go shopping.” Eustace tried to divert Danika’s attention as he did not want her to dwell in sadness.

Danika knew his intentions. Although her mood was not particularly good, she forced herself to smile, saying, “I’m okay with anything. You decide.”

Eustace nodded and said, “Let’s not think about unhappy matters. Things will improve for the better on their own.”

Surprised, Danika glanced at him. “I didn’t know you knew how to comfort people.”

“Well, it depends on who it is. If it’s someone else, I won’t bother.” Eustace was not so kind to everyone.

Danika didn’t believe him. After all, he had treated Faye very well. At the thought of Faye, Danika asked, Where did you send Faye?”

Eustace, who was driving, almost steered them into an accident. Looking at her in disbelief, he asked, “Don’t tell me you want to take revenge on her.”

“Am I not allowed to do that?” Danika retorted, her eyebrows raised. Danika was a person who held grudges. With a wry smile, Eustace answered, “I didn’t say that. It’s just…since she won’t ever appear in front of you again, I hope you will let bygones be bygones.”

“You’re really protective of her.” For some reason, it made Danika feel uncomfortable.

“You have misunderstood my relationship with her. Let me explain it to you.” So, Eustace told her how Faye’s brother had saved him and how he had asked Eustace to take care of Faye before his death. He made sure to explain things to Danika clearly so that she wouldn’t misunderstand.
