“Good morning Mommy.” She sat up, rubbing the back of her palm against her eyes.
“Come over here.” She crawled to Vicky and Vee made her sit on her lap. “Happy birthday, my love. Thank you for coming into my life and making me your mommy. You have indeed brought me so much joy. I love you so much and I am going to do whatever it takes to make sure you are always happy.” Vicky kissed her daughter’s cheek and then hugged her.
“Thank you, mommy. I love you too.”
“Happy birthday, Princess.” Oscar sat beside Vicky on the bed, smiling at his daughter.
She crawled out of her mommy’s arms to her Daddy’s. “You are here for my birthday.”
“Of course, my love. I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world.” “I love you, Daddy.” She wrapped her tiny arms around Oscar’s neck. He smiled, kissing her cheek. “I love you too, my baby.”
“No present for me?” She looked at Oscar with a sad face after pulling away from the hug.
“This is my first time celebrating your birthday with you. Of course, it’s impossible not to get my baby any presents.” The little girl smiled. “So Where’s my present?”
“Are you ready to see it?”
She eagerly nodded.
“Babe, you ready?” He asked Vicky. As confused as Vicky was, She still nodded.
They all rose to their feet and with Sophie in his arms, Oscar led his family to the living room.
“Wow! Wow! Wow! Thank you, Daddy! I love you so much. Thank you, Daddy!”
Oscar chuckled. “You’re welcome, my love.” He placed her on her feet and she quickly ran off to the surprise area. Oscar converted a part of the living room into a surprise area for Sophie. There were balloons and other beautiful decorations on the wall that screamed ‘Happy Birthday Sophie: There was a table set up and the table contained 5 beautiful themed cakes of all fairytale princesses. And around the table were lots of wrapped gifts in different sizes including a bicycle and two scooters.
It was such a beautiful sight to behold that Vicky had no idea when she started crying.
Oscar approached her, wiping tears off the corner of her eyes with his thumb. “You like it?”
She nodded, sniffling, “It’s so beautiful.”
“How did you come up with all these?”
“My urge to want to make her day special made me think out of the box. I know she is going to have a party where family and friends would celebrate her but I wanted her to have a special moment with us too.”
“I couldn’t decide on any particular item to buy so I ordered the most precious items I could find for a 5-year-old. And Gracie helped me out in setting it all up. One of the reasons I slipped out of bed early this morning.”
“She looks so happy,” Vicky said, taking a glance at Sophie who was already checking out her gifts.
“Thank you.”
“What for?”
“For all that you are doing for her.”
“There is no need to. It is my duty to take care of you all. Whatever I do, I want you to understand that it came from my heart and I am happy to do it.”
Vicky smiled. “I am so lucky to have you.”
“You can say that again!” Oscar smiled too.
“I know we haven’t discussed this but I have reached out to the personnel in charge, where she was born.”
“I didn’t think twice about giving Sophie my surname because obviously I was not happy with you, and I never even thought our paths would cross anymore.”
“But now that you are in the picture. I guess it only makes sense for her to officially be her father’s daughter. The twins will be here in a few months and they are going to have your name too.”
“You don’t know how much this means to me but Thank you so much.” put
“I have been trying to put some inheritance in her name but the surname has been giving me some issues. Some I on hold, while some, I appointed a trustee. But this will make everything easier.”
Vee smiled.
“Is there anything to do with regards that?”
“We will pick a date and go there with our ID. Her birth certificate will be rectified and every other thing will fall in place.”
“I can’t wait for you to be Mrs Wayde too.”
“You mean Vicky Wayde?”
“You have no idea how long I’ve been bearing that name in my head.”
“Oh really?” Oscar chuckled in disbelief. “You act like you don’t want me but you are living in the future about me in your head.”
“Yeah, something like that.”
“I had to make sure you were being really sincere this time around and that you wouldn’t hurt me.””
“I love you too much to hurt any part of you.”
“I’ve always known that. I guess I was waiting for more validation.” Oscar nodded. “I am happy to have earned your trust.”
“My baby looks so happy. Let’s take a picture with her.”
“Of course.” Oscar smiled.
They called Gracie’s attention. She took plenty of pictures of them with Sophie and her cake.”
Once done, the decorators for Sophie’s 5th party arrived and they got to work by putting everything in place in the backyard.
Vicky cleaned Sophie up after which they all had breakfast, and then started preparing for the party.
By noon, they started receiving guests and the party started in full swing with lots of activities for the kids and adults.
Oscar made sure everything was outsourced. From the food, cake, snacks, drinks and everything else. Vee was pregnant with twins so he didn’t want her to feel overwhelmed.
At almost 1 p.m., Oscar got a text from Fedora. He excused himself and went out of the house to fetch her.
“Uncle Oscar!” The very familiar voice came through the moment Oscar walked out of the gate.
“Hey, baby girl!” He lifted her up, hugging her.
“How are you? I missed you so much.” He said to the Seven-year-old. “I’m fine. I missed you too. Where is my cousin? I want to see her. Please?”
“Sure. She’s inside. Hold on a sec, let me say hello to your Mom.” Amie nodded and he placed her on her feet.
“Hey, Sis.” They exchanged a hug.
“Good to see you looking all bright and happy.”
Oscar chuckled while they pulled away.
“Welcome to Australia!”
“I don’t like long flights but anything for my brother and my sister-in-law.” “I love the sound of that so much.” Oscar smiled.
“Definitely! She is more than welcome to the family. I can’t wait to meet her. And triple Congratulations to you.”
