Warren shook his head. He didn’t know that Eustace confused Miss Zellweger for Miss Zelliot, “I’m not too sure.” Eustace didn’t press further. He headed straight to the study upstairs.
Warren didn’t know what Eustace had told Old Mr. Quincey, but he could hear them arguing in the study. He couldn’t help but worry.
Soon, Eustace came out of the study. The gloomy look on his face made it evident that he was in a terrible mood.
“Mr. Eustace,” Warren sputtered, “are you leaving already?”
“Yes.” Eustace nodded. He turned to look at the study again before he said, “go upstairs and take care of Grandpa.”
“Okay.” Warren nodded and was about to walk over to the study.
“Don’t simply let any hooligan meet Grandpa next time, especially people from the Zelliot family,” Eustace said to Warren.
He didn’t expect that Grandpa would speak up for the Zelliot family. That Miss Zelliot must have buttered him up.
Warren was stunned.
“Did Mr. Eustace mean Miss Zellweger? Don’t let Miss Zellweger see Mr. Quincey? It seems like Mr. Eustace must really hate Miss Zellweger. He already acted like she didn’t exist before their divorce. Now that they’re divorced, he’s not even going to let her see Mr. Quincey,” Warren thought.
Eustace left the Old Mansion. On the way home, he called Vincent. He snapped, “Inform the Zelliot family that we’re going to stop working with them tomorrow and will never work with them again.”
This time, the Zelliot family’s meeting with Old Mr. Quincey really triggered him. He initially planned to stop working with them temporarily and continue working with them if the opportunity arose in the future, but now…
Right now, Danika had no idea that not only did her meeting with Old Mr. Quincey not help the Zelliot family, but it had also made things even worse. When she got home, she saw Stephanie sleeping on the couch. She was about to cover her with a blanket when Stephanie woke up.
“Danika, you’re back.” Stephanie rubbed her eyes and asked drowsily, “Have you eaten dinner? I left some food for you.”
“I’ve already eaten. Go sleep in your room,” Danika said.
“Okay.” She got up and headed to the room.
As if remembering something, she suddenly asked, “Oh, right. Eustace…”
Danika walked over and patted her shoulder. She said, “Mr. Quincey has already agreed to help. We should be receiving an update soon.”
“Really? That’s great!” Stephanie smiled. It seemed to her that since Eustace’s grandfather had already agreed to help, there wouldn’t be any problem.
However, Danika didn’t feel the same way.
After all, Old Mr. Quincey was part of the Quincey family. He would be on Eustace’s side without a doubt, not to mention that she and Eustace were already divorced. Even if they hadn’t divorced, Old Mr. Quincey might also not do his best to help her.
Although Danika understood this, she didn’t tell Stephanie immediately. Instead, she decided to let her have a good night’s sleep. Stephanie went back to her room to sleep, but Danika struggled. She needed to be prepared for the worst.
Danika was up the whole night trying to come up with solutions, which caused her dark eye circles to become extremely obvious the following day.
“What were you up to last night?” Stephanie exclaimed when she saw her. Danika stared at herself in the mirror as she used concealer to conceal her dark circles.
“Nothing. I just didn’t sleep well.”
“Danika,” Stephanie suddenly called, “I’m sorry for making you worry about my family’s business.”
Upon hearing this, Danika turned around to look at her and said thoughtfully, “If you’re going to apologize to me, I should apologize to you too. You wouldn’t have offended Eustace if you didn’t speak up for me.”
“Who knew he would be so petty?” Stephanie complained. “He didn’t even give me a chance to apologize.”
“Let’s eat first. There’s always a solution to everything.” She smiled at Stephanie as she walked out of the kitchen with breakfast.
After breakfast, Stephanie grabbed her luggage and returned to her place because she was worried about her father. Counting today, her plan to run away from home only lasted three days.
Danika cleaned up the kitchen.
After changing, she was ready to go to work. Right when she opened the door and walked out, the neighbor opposite her opened his door simultaneously. Danika was in shock. Eustace was much calmer in comparison to her. “Dr. Zellweger, what a coincidence.” Danika was speechless. Eustace was living right across from her! What were the odds? “What a coincidence indeed, Mr. Quincey,” Danika returned to her senses as she tried to suppress her shock.
As they were talking, the two of them arrived at the lift. Danika was feeling hesitant. She didn’t know whether Old Mr. Quincey had talked to Eustace about the Zelliot family and whether Eustace would listen to Old Mr. Quincey.
After hesitating for a while, she decided to initiate the conversation.
‘Mr. Quincey, can we talk?” Eustace tumed to look at her with a faint expression. “What about?” “The Zelliot family.” Danika looked up at him. “It was Stephanie’s fault. She shouldn’t have bad—mouthed you. I apologize to you on her behalf. I hope you won’t let this matter affect Quincey Group and the Zelliot family’s collaboration.”
The lift arrived with a ding. Eustace walked into the lift without answering.
Danika caught up with him. Unwilling to give up, she continued, “Mr. Quincey, you’re an entrepreneur. You won’t let a few words affect your business relationships, right?”
Eustace, who had kept quiet the entire time, laughed suddenly. He stared right into Danika’s eyes.
“Who told you I’m a generous person?”
“Mr. Quincey…”
“Dr. Zellweger, you’re truly an adaptable person. You obviously hated me before, but now, you’re willing to put down your ego and beg me on behalf of your friend. I admire that,” he mocked.
Danika cursed Eustace inwardly but kept smiling, “I don’t hate you.”
“I purely don’t want anything to do with you, that’s all,” she thought.
“Is that so?” he asked in disbelief.
He wasn’t a fool. Danika’s attitude toward him had always been hostile before. If that wasn’t hatred, what was it then?
“Dr. Zellweger, why do you have to worry about the Zelliot family? Your friend is competent. She even came looking for my grandfather. Do you even need to worry about her?” he said.
Stephanie went to see Eustace’s grandfather. Danika was so surprised that she didn’t know how to react for a moment.
Eustace continued, “Such a shame. Her plan is going to fail miserably. What makes her think that I will listen to my grandfather?”
Danika came back to her senses. She was slightly taken aback. So, Eustace thought Stephanie had gone to see Mr. Quincey last night?
She recalled how Warren always addressed her as “Miss Zellweger.”
It appeared that Eustace must have misunderstood. It was Zellweger, not Zelliot. Unfortunately, he didn’t know that. She found it kind of funny, but she couldn’t get herself to laugh after hearing what Eustace had said. Eustace meant he wouldn’t let the Zelliot family off the hook.
“Is there no way to get around this? Mr. Quincey, don’t you think that ending your collaboration with the Zelliot family just because of this is a little too capricious?” She really couldn’t understand how Eustace could be so irrational.
“I always get my way. Do you have a problem with that, Dr. Zellweger?” He sneered, ignoring what Danika had just said. Seeing him like this, Danika realized there was perhaps no room for discussion regarding this issue. Her expression instantly turned dark.
Noticing that she went quiet, Eustace smirked. “What’s wrong? Aren’t you going to help your friend say something?”
