“My mother, my brother! Who will bring us justice? We can’t survive. It’s better to die…”
River clenched her fists on her lap, glaring at Jade’s dramatic outburst. She couldn’t fathom it. Her father had great gambling debts in the past, yet they had never kept in touch. Why were they suddenly here?
River was lost in thought when a sudden, sharp crash interrupted her. Looking up, she saw Gigi smashing a rabbit ornament Neil had given her when she first started her company.
“What a piece of junk! It shattered when it fell,” Gigi remarked with disdain.
Pursing her lips, Gigi reached for another item on the display cabinet–a vase on the third shelf. She couldn’t reach it, so Gregory helped her retrieve it.
River couldn’t take it any longer. She stood up and leered at them. “If you can converse politely. my employees, I won’t
I can stay calm, too. But if you continue breaking my things and disruption converse politely.
hesitate to use force to stop you.”
Brandon clutched his chest and laughed wickedly. I’m shaking in my boots.”
As he spoke, he approached River and leaned in. “You’re going to use violence to stop us?”
Brandon was uncomfortably close, and his foul breath made River cringe. She swallowed her discomfort and stared him down. “Yes,”
“Go on, then!” Brandon raised his phone and pushed it toward River. “Hit me! Get someone to hit
- I’ll record it. How shameless can you be!”
River’s anger boiled over. She swatted his phone away and slapped him. “Stop being rude!”
Jade, who had been crying, rushed over to cradle Brandon’s face. When she saw the red handprint on her son’s face, she pointed at River and scolded her. “Shameless! How dare you slap my son?”
She rolled up her sleeves as she spoke, ready to teach River a lesson.
Brandon intervened, “Mom, don’t hit her! Let her do it.”
While speaking, he lifted his red face and gestured at River. “Go on. Hit me. I’ll have plenty to say when the reporters arrive”
“What do you want?” River asked.
“Not much,” Brandon replied. “We want to stay with you for a while. You’re living in a villa, right? Let us experience it, too.”
River offered, “I can arrange a hotel for you.”
“No, we want to stay at your place. If not, we’ll expose it on the Internet.”
River closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She had to endure this, at least for now. If more negative news came out, it would harm her company further.
Gritting her teeth, she said, “Fine! I’ll take you home with me.”
Suppressing her emotions, River left the office with her troublesome family.
The employees who had witnessed the spectacle quickly retreated to their offices.
Once River and her guests were gone, they exchanged worried remarks.
“What kind of people are they?”
“Why does Ms. Healy have such shameless relatives?”
“Every family has its problems. We can’t help her, but we can work hard here.”
Naomi said, “It’s better to work than gossip.”
Everyone fell silent.
Twenty minutes later, River arrived at Bayview Villa with the Healy family. The Healys.
exited the car first, and the bodyguards at the door gazed at them, puzzled.
It was Gregory’s first encounter with bodyguards. His eyes widened as he approached them, his curiosity piqued. “Are these real security guards? They’re standing so still, like statues.”
A bodyguard, growing annoyed, grabbed Gregory’s collar and lifted him. “You’ve never seen bodyguards before?”
“Bodyguards? Are they the ones who hurt people? Jade felt terrified upon hearing that and hurried over to smooth things out for Gregory. “My husband didn’t know. Don’t scare him.”
She then scolded Gregory, “Stop being nosy. Let’s go inside.”
The bodyguards displayed their disdain.
River sneered and swiftly opened the door. Meanwhile, Jamie, with her long black hair flowing freely, stood by the entrance in a white dress.
This sight sent shivers down the Healys‘ spines. They wondered, ‘Why does she resemble a female ghost?‘
Before River could speak, Jamie’s expression suddenly changed as she glanced beyond River. When she spotted Brandon, her eyes filled with anger.
River had yet to react when she saw Jamie’s furious expression.
Jamie rushed toward Brandon, pushed him down, and strangled him aggressively. “Die! Die! Fucking man! You must die!”
The Healys were terrified. Their eyes widened, and they were momentarily unable to react.
River’s brow furrowed as she rushed to intervene. “Jamie, stop strangling him!”
Upon hearing River’s words, the Healys regained their composure.
Jade remarked, “What a terrible act! Who is this woman?”
Gigi’s voice pierced the air. “Let go of my brother! Stop hurting him!”
Jannie glared at the Healys, her voice filled with anger. “Silencel All of you, be quiet! I want him gone! He must die!”
Gregory was rendered speechless in that instant.
Freya arrived when she heard the commotion. Seeing the scene, she quickly fetched a sedative.
After administering the sedative to Jamie, her agitated state gradually subsided.
Brandon clutched his throat, coughing heavily before rising to his feet.
River glanced at him. “I forgot to mention, Jamie’s mental health isn’t stable. Her mood swings might suddenly flare up.”
Following that, River and Freya assisted in taking Jamie upstairs.
“Motherfucker! What the hell?” Brandon looked at the stairs in fear.
Gregory shuddered. “T–This woman looks crazy. Why… don’t we go? I–Is River crazy, too? No normal people would let a maniac stay home.”
“No, we can’t go! What a coward you are! So, what if she’s crazy?” Jade reprimanded Gregory.
Gregory was still scared. “Why not? That woman seemed like she was about to kill him!*!
“We’re here for the money. If we leave, where else can we get it? We can’t leave!” Jade scowled at the disappointing Gregory, then pulled Gigi and Brandon into the living room.
Gregory scratched his head in frustration and reluctantly followed them inside.
Once in the living room, their faces lit up with excitement. 1
Gigi spotted a lovely Lego house next to the French window and dashed over. She stood beside it!
and kicked it.
Before long, it toppled over, and the pieces scattered across the floor.
River came downstairs at that moment. When she saw the scene, she was rendered speechless.
Tyler and Liora had put in a lot of effort and time to build the Lego castle. The roof hadn’t been added yet, but it had somehow been ruined. They would be heartbroken when they got home.
River closed her eyes in frustration and leaned against the wall. She tried to calm down amidst the exclamations and discussions downstairs, organizing her thoughts. When she opened her eyes again, they were clear.
As she descended the stairs and saw their eager expressions, she said icily, “There are two empty rooms on the third floor. You can choose whichever one you want.”
Upon hearing that, the Healys became energized.
“Let’s go check out the rooms upstairs!”
After Jade’s declaration, she pushed River aside at the base of the stairs and excitedly led her family upstairs
Freya came downstairs and kept glancing upstairs while approaching River. “Ms. Healy, these people…”
“Just tolerate them,” River said wearily, “I’ll leave them to you here. I need to hurry back to the company.”
Freya sighed. “Alright.”
In the afternoon, River asked Alex to accompany her to the clothing factory. When she arrived and saw the size of the factory, she was taken aback.
She had mentally prepared for the MK clothing factory not to be small, but it dawned on her that this facility was nearly as large as two universities combined. The one–million–dollar rent for half a year suddenly seemed insignificant.
Upon entering the factory, she noticed signs hung on different floors, each dedicated to specific, manufacturing steps. MK even had its own weaving floor.
Alex secured a patrol car, and together with River, he went through every part of the factory. He became quite exhausted as he continuously took photos for Paige during the tour.
Paige texted him back after a long while. [I finally understand why you claimed it was fortunate you didn’t increase the price.]
Alex put his phone away and glanced at River, who seemed lost in thought.
“What do you think? Impressive, right?” he asked.
River shifted her gaze and offered a smile. “Indeed, I struck a fantastic deal and learned a lot as well.”
“Oh?” Alex smiled back, probing, “What did you learn?”
River examined the machinery before her again. “Aren’t these machines enough for me to learn from?”
Alex was momentarily surprised before laughing heartily. “Ms. Healy, you have incredible potential. If you collaborate with MK, you can dominate the global fashion industry.”
River’s smile faded as she replied, “Mr. Price, TYC Fashion has its own strength. I don’t want others to perceive my company’s growth as solely reliant on MK.”
That wasn’t her dream. She aimed to expand and strengthen her company through her own efforts. That was the path to gaining the influence necessary to investigate her mother’s death.
Alex mentioned, “For your sake, Noah-”
“Mr. Price!” River interjected, “When can I start working in the factory?”
Alex replied, “It’s up to you. But, Ms. Healy, avoiding issues won’t lead to favorable outcomes.
River fell silent.
Alex continued. “I apologize if I’m overstepping, but may I ask a somewhat personal question?”
“Go ahead.”
“You were carrying Noah’s triplets. Axel is with Noah. What happened to the other two kids?”
Grief clouded River’s face. “They didn’t survive childbirth.”
– Alex questioned, “Is that… true?”
River met his gaze. “Do you think I’d joke about something like that?”
Seeing River’s reddened eyes, Alex regretted his words. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know…”
