With a rough exhale, Mink slid her phone in her skirt’s pocket and entered the room where River was sleeping with Arthur right beside her. ever since Hawk was kidnapped, River had not left Arthur even for a minute. She clung onto him like glue and that irritated Mink. But what could she do? She was just an omega nurse.
She scowled at River as she glared at her. Faria was folding the little one’s clothes quietly. “Faria,” Mink said in a very polite and soft voice. “Could you please go out for a moment and fetch this medicine for me? I have to give it to Alpha River.”
Faria frowned when she h*anded over a piece of paper on which the medicine’s name was scribbled. “What medicine is this?” she asked with the frown intact.
“The doctor has asked me to give it to her at this hour.” Her l*ips turned down. “Unfortunately, I forgot to replenish it.” She gave a puppy look to Faria. “I can go down and get it, but that would mean that I will have to leave Alpha River’s side and that is going to cost me my job and my life.” Tears brimmed her eyes. “Please Faria, can you go and get this medicine from the hospital? They must be having it in the pharmacy.”
Faria sighed. She stashed the paper in her p*ants pocket. She folded the little shirt in her h*and and after giving River a last glance full of sympathy, she said, “Okay, I will be back soon.”
As soon as Faria closed the door behind her, Mink rushed to the closet to extract her bag that she had brought here which had her belongings. She opened the zip and started looking for the balloons that she had filled with the gas that exploded into dense mist.
This was what she had done the last time when her lover had kidnapped Hawk. She had disguised as a servant and gone to broom the dry leaves and dirt from the garden. As soon as the nannies had come, she had punctured the balloons and the mist had exploded. The mist was so dense that her lover had used it to his advantage. She gave him the blade and he managed to s*lit the t*hroat of Hawk’s nanny and pick up Hawk from his pram. After giving her a sizzling k*iss, he wore his mask back and rushed away. Ora couldn’t shout for a good ten minutes because the gas had swelled on her vocal cords. Mink had in the meanwhile taken advantage of the mayhem and rushed back to her station.
She dug deeper but the balloons weren’t there. She always kept ten such balloons in her bag, all bubble-wrapped so that they didn’t explode accidentally. It was a lot of tension bringing them in the house again and again whenever she was required to come.
“Where the f*uck are they?” she muttered under her breath. She had to kidnap Arthur and take him out. She had sent Faria on a wild goose chase. By the time she would come back, it would be at least an hour. Mink was going to drug the little pup and take her away from River by stashing him in her bag. Then on the way she was going to puncture the balloons in order to create thick mist if anyone protested. Or better, she was going to jump down the window with Arthur in her bag and run away. There were a few security guards at the back on whom she would use the balloons. But where the hell were the balloons?
She gritted through her teeth as she frantically searched for them. Sweat trickled down her forehead on a random thought that someone might have searched her bag. “No, it can’t be!” In her panic she went to the window to check out the number of guards there. There were five but they were patrolling in a way that none of them stayed at one position for more than five minutes. So she just had a five-minute window to escape with Arthur. She just couldn’t understand why her lover wanted Arthur as well. Kidnapping Hawk was fine but was he kidnapping Arthur because of some damage control? She shook her head to shove those thoughts from her mind. Her real aim was to take Arthur from here. She glanced at him and found him sleeping, curled up in his mother. The pup had been cranky ever since Hawk had gone. She wondered how she was going to handle a cranky pup.
She rushed back to the closet and started searching again i*nside her bag. Did she forget them at home? If that was the case, then it would delay the plan. She stomped her foot in frustration when the door of the room suddenly opened.
“What are you doing?” Faria asked, her brows furrowed as she closed the door behind her.
Mink was shocked. How did she come so fast? “I-” She l*icked her dry l*ips. “I was wondering if I got the medicine and it was in my bag!”
“Oh, I see,” Faria replied dryly and went back to what she was doing.
“Didn’t you go to the hospital?” Mink asked, astonished.
Faria shrugged. “Why should I go to the hospital to get medicine? I sent someone else. I am here to look after Luna River”
Mink gaped at her, stunned for a while. This meant that she couldn’t get rid of Faria. The woman was going to stick with River all the time. And in this case, Mink had to burst a balloon in the room as well, but the main problem was that she couldn’t search for them in front of Faria or she would become suspicious. Out of frustration she grated, “You should have gone to fetch the drug, Faria. What if the servant you’ve sent gets the wrong one?” Faria scoffed. “Are you joking? Unless you’ve written the wrong name on that paper, he will bring the right one!” Mink was taken aback. “N— no I haven’t written the wrong name.”
“Well, good then. He will get the right medicine. However, just to make sure that he will get the right medicine, I have also asked him to show it to the doctor and then get it here,” Faria replied with a nonchalant expression. “What?” Mink’s stomach knotted. If the doctor came to know about it, he was going to get suspicious. “You didn’t trust me?”
Faria c*ocked her head. “Is everything okay with you nurse?” she asked, glancing at her sideways. “Why are you so jumpy?” Faria tilted her head to see the closet behind Mink.
Mink got riled up. If Faria’s suspicion thickened, she was going to be in so much trouble. “I am not jumpy,” she said, tampering down her panic. “It’s just that the situation is too demanding. And being Alpha River’s nurse is a very tough job. It’s like I am walking on eggshells.”
Faria jerked her head back. Then she smiled and then she started laughing. “You are hilarious, Mink,” she quipped and returned back to her work.
Mink let out a sigh and turned back to close the closet. She had to find a way to search for the balloons because they were not in her bag. Maybe, she had left them in her home. But right now she had to do some damage control. “I am coming in a minute!” she said to Faria and rushed to the bathroom. Out there she dished her phone out and called the pharmacist.
“Hi Ivy!” she breathed.
“Mink?” Ivy was surprised by her call. “How is Alpha River?”
“She is better. Hey, I need a favor,” Mink quickly replied.
“Sure, what is it?”
“I have sent someone to fetch a medicine, but that man took the wrong prescription. Can you send some Advil instead of that medicine?”
Ivy chuckled. “Mink, that was very careless of you.”
She sighed. “I am so sorry Ivy. This job is very demanding.”
“I understand. Don’t worry, I will send Advil,” Ivy replied sweetly.
“Thanks!” Mink said and disconnected the call. She sagged against the wall as she flushed the toilet. She emerged from the bathroom only to find that things were normal. She checked the clock. It was 2 PM. Her lover had asked her to bring Arthur by 4 PM. He would be standing by the periphery of the Crescent pack on the north. He had already given her the coordinates. Had it been night, she would have easily done it, but in day time she had to be cautious.
Half an hour later, the doctor called her. “Mink why do you need Advil for Alpha River. I never asked you to give them to her!” He scolded her.
“Those are not for Alpha River? she said in a low voice so that Faria couldn’t listen. “Those are for me doctor.” There was a long pause on the other side. “But this man here is saying that you want it for Alpha River?” She chuckled. “He must be confused.”
Doctor sighed in confusion. “Okay, just be careful while instructing them.”
“I will be!” she rasped and closed her eyes with relief as the doctor disconnected the call. It was 3 PM and she was running out of time. She turned to Faria and said, “Is it okay if I go home, Faria? I think my heats are closing in. I have these terrible cramps. But I promise that I will come back in less than thirty minutes.”
Faria shook her head and pursed her l*ips. “Go,” she muttered, and Mink dashed home to find her balloons.
