Hector woke up in the morning at 6 AM. Canna had come to him after she had put Hawk to sleep at 1 AM and then rushed to Hawk when he started crying. She took good care of the infant and that is what he liked about her. She was a dedicated worker.
He stretched himself and smiled. Slipping the p*ants on, he went out of the cave and gazed at the rising sun. His time had finally come. Today was the day he was going to claim his pack. He was going to destroy everything that River had made with the help of his little plan. He chuckled at how stupid River was. The pack members were also too complacent and protected. They didn’t think even once that something as deadly as that was lying in the pack’s territory.
Rooky had gone to the pack. Hector saw him running towards the cave. When he reached him, Rooky was p*anting. “Master, he rasped. “Mink hasn’t come as we had planned. I went to her house and she isn’t there too. Her parents were sleeping, so jumped in the window, but her room was empty, but I think she had made fresh balloons to use in Alpha’s house.”
A sinister smile spread on his l*ips. “It means half of our work is already done.” His eyes swept to the small clearing and the dense forest beyond it. After a moment of contemplation, he said, “Ask Canna to prepare breakfast. A visit is long due.”
Rooky’s eyes showed excitement. “Yes Master!” He bowed to Hector and then went inside the cave to prepare for the final part of the journey.
Hector came to his room after taking a dip in the nearby pond and got dressed. He heard Canna cooing to the baby a soft tune as she got him dressed. When he came out after dressing up in black leather p*ants and black leather jacket, armed to the tee, he saw that the small table in front of the makeshift kitchen was already teeming with breakfast. Canna had made pancakes. He dribbled maple syrup over them and ate them heartily. She had also roasted lamb meat which tasted better than he had ever had. How she managed to do all this, was a mystery to him.
Once the breakfast was over, he said, “I am going along with Rooky to the border.” He had created a temporary treehouse where he had installed wi-fi and small equipment that would help him keep a tab on the Alpha’s house. He had done it with Mink’s help. “You will come to the treehouse in two hours. Is that clear?” Canna nodded.
“If you don’t receive a call from me, then just take Hawk and take him far from here, okay?” he instructed. “Yes Alpha!”
Hector packed his satchel, strapped it on his shoulder and along with Rooky, he left for the treehouse. He was going to make a ransom call from the treehouse to Hunter who was far away from here and still waiting for his call in Portland. Hector couldn’t help laughing about how he managed to hoodwink Hunter and all his strong warriors to get out of this place. He was going to strike River and he was going to win so easily. River was vulnerable. She was too numb to take care of herself and so he was going to challenge her if need be. But first, he was going to negotiate with them.
Rooky maintained his pace through the forest. Hector was going to use Rooky to go to the Alpha’s house and deliver his message. And if they decided to k*ill him. Hector would have his answer. Then he would have to carefully negotiate with them.
When they reached the treehouse, Rooky inspected the area. When he signaled, Hector came out of his hiding and climbed to the treehouse. He removed his satchel and immediately switched on his laptop. Rooky was with him, putting everything in place.
Hector’s laptop came to life and the camera that Mink had put in the main hall of the Alpha’s mansion, connected. He could see servants scurrying around. His l*ips curled up. They hadn’t suspected what Mink had done. He took the phone out of his pocket and dialed the number of the cottage in Portland where Hunter and his team was. Someone picked up the phone.
“Hello.”
Hector had already connected his laptop with a voice modulator. “I want to talk to Hunter? he said. While his voice was normal at his end, he was sure that it sounded distorted at the other end.
“Alpha Hunter is in the washroom. His stomach is upset with so much tension. He hadn’t been able to sleep at night.”
What a stupid thing. He growled. “Then this deal is off!”
“No!” The man on the other side sounded nervous. “You can connect him on his cell phone.”
Hector gritted his teeth. He checked his laptop’s wi-fi. It was masked by a VPN. “Okay, give me his cell number. I don’t have time!”
When the man gave him the cell number, Hector dialed it immediately.
“Alpha Hunter,” his voice came and Hector leaned back to relax. He folded his l*egs over ankles and smiled wickedly.
“I have your son, Alpha Hunter, and the time has come for negotiation,” he said.
“Yes,” Hunter replied in an anxious voice. “What do you want?”
“It is very simple. I want the Crescent pack in exchange of Hawk.”
There was a long silence. “Who are you?” Hunter asked.
“Just get the council ready to h*and over the pack’s reins to me. Once you send me a letter signed by every council member that they will submit to me and make me their Alpha, you will get your son. In the papers you will write that River has willingly relinquished her position as the Alpha of the Crescent pack in my favor.” Once again there was a stretch of silence. “I will have to get the papers ready in someone’s name.” Hector barked a laugh. “You are too dense, aren’t you? Who would dare to go to this extreme?” Hunter let out a sigh. “Hector.”
“Impressive!” Hector clapped his h*ands. He removed the voice modulator from the laptop. “Now listen to me carefully. I know that you are in Portland and almost every other warrior of yours as well as River’s is there with you. River is pretty weak now. So you better not pull up stunts and delay the process. After all, Hawk’s life is in danger.” His voice turned stern. “I want those papers within two hours, or Hawk dies!”
“I will make those papers, but when do I get them delivered?” Hunter asked.
Hector narrowed his eyes. “Don’t play smart with me. I will send someone to collect the papers.”
“But what is the guarantee that you will return Hawk after it?”
“You have to take a chance, Alpha Hunter. You really don’t have any option left, do you?”
After a long pause, Hunter said in a calm but lethal, “Hector, your plan is vise-like. I don’t have any other option than to agree to it, but I want my pup. Because if I won’t have my pup, I will hunt you to the depths of hell and you know that.”
Hector gritted his teeth. He knew that Hunter’s warning couldn’t be taken lightly. “Hawk will be returned to you as soon as my man sees those papers. Once I verify the papers, I will come to the pack’s temple with your pup. Keep the Shaman ready so that he does the ceremony to make me the Alpha.”
“It will be done.”
“Good!” Hector had a lopsided smile. “You have two hours.” He disconnected the call and glanced at Rooky. Rooky was watching him with pure admiration. He smirked and turned his attention to the camera in the main hall. The servants were scurrying around as usual.
Hector was sure that the way Hunter sounded, he was forced to agree to his terms. He was helpless sitting so far from here. Even if he wanted, he couldn’t come to rescue River. Once he took over the pack, he was going to throw River and her pup and all those related to her out of the pack. He would banish them. K*illing River was out of question because Hunter sounded like death when he threatened him that he would hunt him if his pup wasn’t returned.
And now all he had to do was wait. Hunter closed his eyes. Thoughts of him becoming the Alpha of the pack bounced in his head. He had so many plans after that, but the first one would be to sever the connection with the Dark Moon pack and then take as many females as possible. He would build a small harem. Everything else would be done parallely.
