Jason’s sullen face looked as if people owed him a lot of debt. His cold expression caused the air pressure around him to lower.
Grace kept her eyes wide open. She stared at Jason, not knowing why on earth he left the party early and popped into her house just to ask her if she was an extra today.
Her innocent and blank expression inexplicably made him feel more irritable.
Thinking that she had been wronged and bullied on the set today, he was in a bad mood and was anxious to see her.
Now that he saw her, his mood was even worse!
Jason raised his hand and flicked the bruise on her forehead.
“Ouch!” Grace could not help but gasp at the pain.
He sneered. “Is it painful?”
Of course! She was not made of stone. Of course, it hurt when he flicked her! Especially when he intentionally aimed for her bruise.
She glared at him with her almond-shaped eyes.
He laughed angrily. “Great. Great job, Grace. I wanted you to stay with me, but you were quick to refuse. I thought you had a lot of dignity and backbone, but now? Was it fun to be an extra and be bullied into kneeling and groveling non-stop by your sister?”
She bit her lip, subconsciously taking one step back. He was frightening her a little.
However, when she took a step back, he took a step closer.
She continued taking steps back until she reached the wall with her back against it. There was no more room for her to evade him.
He closed in on her, his hands propped on either side of the wall. He was almost encircling her in his arms.
“I asked you, was it fun?” His eyes were fixed on her, and his voice, deeper than usual, seemed to have a subdued fury in it.
She was confused. She was the one who was hurt and bullied today! Why was he the one angry instead?
“I… wasn’t playing,” she grimly replied after a while.
“Wasn’t playing? What set did you go to? Why did you become an extra? What, do you want to be a star? Why didn’t you just tell me? I can make you a star. You can just ask me for anything you want. You don’t have to kneel and grovel and hurt your hand like that,” he said coolly.
If possible, he would have her chained to him so that she could not go anywhere and humiliate herself.
Grace took a deep breath, tilted her chin up slightly, and said, “For 330 dollars. I got to earn 130 dollars as an extra, and I got another 200 dollars by kneeling and groveling to Evelyn repeatedly. That’s why I became an extra, alright?”
He paused for a moment. “330 dollars?”
“Yes, 330 dollars!”
“You did that for only 330 dollars? Why didn’t you come to me for money? I’ll give you as much as you want. I…”
“I’ll have to pay something in return for your money, right?” Grace said. She just did not want to get involved with him. anymore. She wanted to go back to the old days when she did not know him. It was too lonely to be alone in the house back then, but she was not a game.
“What if I don’t want you to pay?” he asked.
“Then there’s no need for it. You don’t have to give me any money. I can earn my living,” she said.
He snorted. “Do you have to get yourself into this mess to earn your living?”
She gasped. A trace of gloom flashed in her eyes. Then, she slowly lowered her eyes and muttered, “At least I earned this money with my own abilities, and I don’t need to be afraid of anything.”
“Did I frighten you?” he asked.
She hesitated. “I know you’re just treating me like a game. You’re interested in me now because you think it’s fun. Once your interest wanes, then I’m worthless. If I offend you by accident, things might be as worse as what it was like in prison.””
She did not want any more of those dark and miserable days!
“Aren’t you afraid that you’ll offend me now by saying that?”
he asked.
Her body suddenly stiffened. Yes, of course, she was afraid, but she chose to say it anyway.
Her expression said it all.
There was a terrible silence all around.
Grace lowered her head, and all she could hear was her breathing and heartbeat. Jason did not say anything, but she could feel that his eyes were on her.
No one knew how much time had passed. Suddenly, she heard his voice. “If I say I’m not treating you as a game, will you want to stay with me?”
She raised her head suddenly and looked at him in astonishment as if she had not expected him to say that.
“Will you?” His eyes were still fixed on her.
She gave a bitter smile. “What am I supposed to do by your side? Continue to be your sis? Or be your playmate? Either way, I’m afraid I’m not up to the task.”
His thin lips drew a straight line, and his eyes grew cold. The word ‘wife’ was stuck in his throat.
If she asked, he could marry her. However, had Jason ever needed to ask a woman to be his wife?!
He suddenly gave her a faint smile and bent down slowly. He brushed her cheek gently. “Since Sis has already said so, let’s go ahead and see who is more patient. Will I be the first to give up on keeping Sis with me, or will Sis be the first to beg to stay with me?”
Grace became slightly short of breath, and her body shook as he got closer.
He was always so unpredictable. He could look like he was angry at one second and then be like the calm after a storm the next second.
Having said that, Jason walked over to the table, pulled up a chair, and sat down.
Grace was relieved and felt another cold sweat break out on her back and palms.
Suddenly, she caught a glimpse of him casually picking up her phone. She shuddered and tried to grab her phone back from him.
However, it was too late. He had already seen what was on the phone.
Jason slightly raised his eyebrows and looked at Grace, half smiling. “Why, are you searching for news about me? If you have something to ask me, you can just call me and ask instead of searching the internet like this.”
She gasped. How could she explain this? Could she say that she just saw an influencer’s live stream and, out of curiosity, searched for the relevant content?
“The party you attended today just started when you left. Doesn’t it matter if you just come out like that?” She could only digress.
“It’s just a party,” he said nonchalantly. There were many parties like that in a year, and sometimes, he did not even bother to attend at all.
“Sis hasn’t finished eating yet. Go on.” He glanced at her half-eaten takeaway food, then calmly drew a chair and sat down.
She nibbled her lip and sat down. Her uninjured right hand was holding the chopsticks to pick up the food. She was eating it mouthful by mouthful.
He sat quietly beside her, holding his chin in one hand while looking at her quietly.
Under the lamplight, her eyelashes had a natural curl, which became more obvious when she dropped her eyelids. His hands seemed to be able to cover her palm-sized face completely.
Her delicate nose and her constantly moving cheeks as she chewed her food made her look like a small animal that was eating. There was an indescribable cuteness about it.
He had not known before that watching a woman eat could be so enthralling.
The more he looked at her, the more he seemed to want to hide her. He wanted to hide her where no one could see find her, where only he could look at her and where only he could approach her.
No one else could covet her!
Interesting. Let’s see what comes out of Jason and Brain’s feeling for Grace
