Grace was eating with her head down, but she could feel Jason staring at her all the time.
The air seemed to be filled with vague embarrassment.
Her face felt hotter and hotter. Even her swallowing became a little difficult. It was not like he had not seen her eating before, but at this moment, she felt warm. There was no discomfort, but…
Grace sped up, trying to finish her food quickly.
Just then, he suddenly asked, “Sis, do you like Brian?”
Poof!
The food she had not yet swallowed burst out of her mouth. Then, she coughed and looked at the table in front of her… He was covered with the rice she had just spat out.
“I’m… I’m sorry…” she hastily said and hurriedly wiped the grains of rice on his clothes.
He took her hand casually. “Sis, you haven’t answered my question. Do you like Brian?”
She looked at him blankly. Did she like Brian? Why would he ask her that? Besides… How did he know she knew Brian? She had never mentioned it to him!
For a moment, all sorts of doubts filled her mind.
Her silence made his brows twitch. His fingers brushed lightly against her lips.
“Do you like him?” His voice was soft. It was gentle yet dangerous.
“I… I have nothing to do with him at all. Why do you ask?” She wanted to turn her head to avoid his fingers.
His fingers immediately grabbed her jaw, firmly fixing her face. Then, he lowered his head and pressed his lips lightly against hers. “Is there really nothing? If there’s nothing, why did he carry Sis to the lounge at the set today?”
She looked at the pretty face before her in surprise. He… He knew!
“Why, is Sis wondering how I know this?” He smiled gently. “Is it strange that I know when so many people were at the scene?”
As he finished his sentence, his lips moved closer to hers, almost completely pressed against her lips.
Grace’s face could not help but turn red. “Don’t…” she said, flustered.
He paused as his eyes fixed on her. “Then Sis should tell me how you know him.”
“It was because someone stole his bracelet once. The thief knocked into me, and it fell into the pocket of my shirt. He wanted to take it back, and that’s how I knew him,” Grace said hurriedly.
“Is that so?” he muttered. “How many times have you two met since?”
She never counted the number of times she met Brian!
However, looking at Jason’s approaching face, Grace quickly counted them in her head and said, “Four… Four times. One was when he said he wanted to thank me for the bracelet by inviting me to a meal. Another occasion was at the county, and another chance encounter at the hospital my grandmother was hospitalized in. The most recent one is at the film set where I was an extra.”
His eyes glistened. Knowing Brian, if Brian wanted to thank her for the bracelet, he would have used money instead of going the extra mile and taking her out to dinner.
In other words, did Brian have his heart set on her too?
Why Grace? Brian just started dating Evelyn not long ago. If it had been in the past, Brian would not be interested in another woman when he was already dating someone.
Now… an exception seemed to have been made!
“Does Sis like him?” he asked, still referring to the earlier question.
“I told you I have nothing to do with him. What’s more, he’s the crown prince of the entertainment industry. I’m just a sanitation worker.” They were two people who did not belong together. In her opinion, Jason’s question was meaningless!
“Don’t I have a crush on Sis too?” Jason chuckled and stuck his lips to the corners of her mouth, sucking in the sticky grains of rice on her lips into his mouth. “What if Brian is attracted to Sis too? Will you like him?”
Grace stiffened, and her blood seemed to boil over at his gesture. It left her with a blank mind.
“Well, Sis?” He nibbled the grains of rice in his mouth. “Will you like him or not?”
She put her hands on his chest, but could not push him away.
“No… I won’t…” she said anxiously, hoping that he would put an end to his flirtatious ways.
“You cannot lie to me,” he murmured. His voice was like a double bass, sinking into her ears. “Never like Brian, all right?”
Her body stiffened suddenly. His voice was beautiful, but beneath it was a chilling warning.
If she were to ever like Brian in the future, she would be doomed.
It was Jason who had deceived her into thinking that he and she were in the same boat, but it turned out that she was being played like a fool by him.
Now, he was asking her not to lie. How ridiculous.
“I don’t like him now, but I don’t know if I’ll ever…” She opened her mouth for a final act of verbal defiance. Perhaps it was the only resistance she had left.
However, before she could finish, he was pressing hard against her lips, blocking all her words.
“Hmm…” Grace subconsciously raised her hand, trying to push him away. After he caught her right hand, without thinking much, she raised her left again.
As his fingers pressed against her left hand, she gave a sudden gasp and unconsciously opened her mouth to cry out, “It hurts!” It was a cry that allowed him to deepen the kiss.
She was almost suffocated by the kiss.
It was some time before the kiss ended, and he let go of both her hands.
She felt her legs go limp, and she almost slipped off the chair.
He held her waist in one hand and lifted her left hand gently in the other. “Did I hurt you, Sis?”
Grace bit her lip and glared at Jason. “Why did you do that just now?”
“Because I don’t like to hear Sis say things that I don’t want to hear.” He smiled softly, looking gentle as could be. “I don’t mind kissing you again if you’re going to say something.”
“…” She was stunned but said nothing more for fear that he would mean what he said.
Jason looked down carefully at the unrelenting swelling on the back of Grace’s hand. “You’ll have to take proper care of this wound. I’m afraid it’s inconvenient for you to recuperate here. How about you go to my place to recuperate?”
“What?” She was shocked. “Your place?”
“Yes, we’ll go to Reed Residence. There are many rooms there. Sis can choose any room you want, and there will be servants waiting on you,” he said.
“No!” She refused quickly. “I’m used to living here. Besides, it’s not like I’m badly hurt. I’m still perfectly capable of taking care of myself. I don’t need people to wait on me.”
His face grew cold. A layer of haze seemed to cloud over those beautiful, amorous eyes. “You don’t want to?”
Her throat tightened. She really did not want to.
She would only get more and more involved with him by staying at his place. She did not want to have anything to do with him!
After a moment’s hesitation, she swallowed the saliva flowing between her throat and said, “You said you won’t force me.”
“I did say I won’t force you, but that was only if you were willing to stay by my side. Now it’s just a matter of having you over to recuperate for a few days so that I don’t have to worry about you.” He smiled. “Sis, do you want me to worry about you?”
His smile, like a mountain, pressed hard on her heart.
The unstoppable light shining in his eyes let her know that her rejection was useless.
Yes, he was the emperor of Emerald City. Once he decided on something, the others could only obey him.
She was like an ant in front of him that could not even rebel.
If she did not agree, there were a hundred ways this man could make her agree.
